Content with the trade, but not ecstatic. In points value, EFC came out on top, but the deal does give us a vital pick in the first round now, so close to a win-win.

Keen to see what we do now. Suspect an upgrade to 5 for Wilson may be on the cards, which would ensure that we get someone we want, whereas at 11 good chance that who we want is gone - depending on who we want. However, Freo won't be keen to move down. Hope we don't give away too much value to entice them, though (if that is what we do). Reasonable value would be the swap (only worth about 500 points in itself) plus one of Freo's picks in the 50s or at least a pick swap. That would enable us to have first and second round picks, then match on two academy boys (even if some deficit occurs). Fifth replacement on main list would be DFA or rookie upgrade. (I expect a Shipley bid in 30s or 40s.)

The other option is to just accept a future Freo second round pick plus something this year (similar to preceding comments) and then a Blues' future second round pick for Kennedy.

We were pragmatic in the Smith trade, but might push a little harder on Wilson since he is contracted.

Both sides seemed to get something out of the deal that they wanted. We got a good players that will strengthen out side plus some 2nd round picks to potentialluy use for other trades.

You have a higher round 1 pick that seems to suit your needs, I think GWS have had a habbit of offering good trades that are a win win for both sides.

I suspect we gave WB first option on !! with some swapping of other picks they refused to moved onto the next in the queue and deal done.

Not a whole lotta love for the Mutts on our board. :D Wish you guys well, but seeing them get shafted is the icing on the cake.

Ricky Nixon quite adamant the Tomlinson for pick 8 deal will go through and saying Mumford will decide future over weekend. He apparently has an incredibly lucrative offer to do something outside of footy.

Ricky is mad as a cut snake but his sources are usually pretty good.

Hmmm, don't know that there are two guys I'd want in this draft at 8 & 11 - hope we don't end up going with speculative picks that could end up as busts. If we ended up with 5 & 8, yes there would be guys I'd take. And who thought this might not be an interesting trade period for GWS?!

So at the moment GWS hold picks
11
26
64
70
88
And with the Kennedy and Wilson trades still to be completed
Likely academy picks purely speculative but based on the chatter on here
Shipley
Powell
Richards
And I can't remember if Walker is eligible and if he could be a pickup and 1 or 2 others I have forgotten?
Then the uncertainty of Mumford it would leave 5 or 6 spots list spots assuming they go in with 38 again and I would speculate Lloyd is an upgrade and that would leave Sproule, Stein(Cat B) and Reid on the rookie list
I cannot recall seeing an official announcement on changes to the rules on the rookie list so i would assume they will be the same

I’m trying to extrapolate what Nixon is saying as he has connected the Tomlinson and Mumford deals. I’m thinking if Mumford retires then we hold fire on Tomlinson but if Mummy stays we have to let Tommo due to salary cap situation.

Walker is next year's draft
Higgins with pick 11 solves small forward problem
Shipley wont get bid on early and will go late leaving pick 26 to use.
Powell will go interstate won't be matched
Richards as rookie

I recall the reports out of Melbourne 14 months ago 2017 had the potential to be a super draft now its next years draft?
We should take best available

Given that we lost Dev presumably due Salary Cap, and then unexpectedly lost Wilson, I would be surprised if Tommo's contract had us over the top - but since we never know the details, I guess it's possible. That means though that the club has mismanaged the TPP. I would have thought the only reason we'd do the was because a pick that early for Tommo is out-of-proportionally good return. Guess we'll see what shakes out - do they actually do trades over the weekend, or is it suspended until Monday?

I think they have the weekend off officially but obviously still talk.

Have you got inside mail on that? Given he can play in the middle and up forward, and we've lost a few from each position, I would have thought matching him (presumably late 40s onwards) would have been a no-brainer for GWS?
My gut feel is Shipley is a good news story from western sydney and we match a bid on him as he would deserve.
I think Powell is a Mitchell clone and W/Coasts lack of mids seems like a good fit for him under his tuition.

You think that WCE will bid at 13 for him? That seems really high given that Powell doesn't feature until 40s at best in any of the BF draft lists. Anything after 30 and I would hope that GWS would match both Shipley & Powell, even if that sends us into deficit next year. I am keen on Jack Powell, think he's a smart & skilful player and could certainly make it in the AFL.

No I don't beleive he goes that high. It would be great for Powell to be a Giant but I recall the Giants didn't match a bid on Mutch last year, its hard to know on later draft picks if they prefer the over publicized Victorians.
As a side note how well are they pumping the tyres of Vic Country mids when they only just beat our Allies and got flogged by Vic Metro and SA

Personally, I'm not fussed about trading up pick 11 to get Freo's to pick 5 in the Wilson deal. I obviously don't know what the club is thinking, but personally I like Jack Higgins and suspect he's there at pick 11. If not, we'd have to look at who is actually there - generally someone is a slider or surprise. But I wouldn't want to reprise the Smith deal or McCarthy deal from last year to move up (e.g. Wilson + 11 + 26 for pick 5), as I think it burns too much in picks/player just for one selection. For Wilson, I'd be happy enough to accept Freo's 2018 second rounder plus something extra in the later rounds this year - 41 ideally, if not then 56, or then try pick swaps of those with 70 or 64. Adding in Carlton's 2018 second rounder (presumably), that would give us a first rounder, 2 x second rounders & 2 x third rounders next year - plenty of options. This year, something like 11, 26, 56, 64 & 70 would give us first & second round draft selections, then ability to match Shipley & Powell; which leaves just one DFA or rookie upgrade to complete the set.

Will miss him, but wish him well at the Bombers

Yeah, Dev will be a miss.
Those funny knock-knees, that head 'over-the-ball' action as he pinged it from the 50 arc.
A pity that old man Johnson kept him out of the Prelim, but c'est la vie, I'm sure it's money that made Dev move, not lack of opportunities.
Anyway, thanks for all the great Giant games Devon.

Carlton lowballing offering Pick 39 for Matthew Kennedy.

Might be time to introduce a trade ban on them until they pull their heads in.

Brisbane interested so hopefully he is receptive to a move there.
You would think Brisbane would be a better lifestyle choice for a country lad from Collingullie than Melbourne?

Hahahahaha Ricky Nixon....

Someone's opinion who I do not care to think about nor give credence to.

He commented in his draft year that he wanted to play football on the big stage (paraphrased), so I think that's a big part of why he's eyeing off Melbourne. If Carlton continue to drag their feet it might be possible to play the "look, obviously Brisbane want you more" card.

I used to go bush along the darling near Menindee ( before the cotton growers ****ed it forever) every year for years. I remember talking to an acquaintance in Maidens pub that it was the perfect antidote for Sydney. Meanwhile he was planning a holiday in Sydney and a couple of weeks in the bright lights, as the antidote for Menindee.
Point is it's not necessarily the case that people from the bush dont want to live in the city.

I really want him to go to Brisbane. Not for any dislike of Carlton but I want to see Brisbane get some added class.

I get that, but it is the exception rather than the norm. And Brisbane is a "city" to some degree.

I do get the sense that we might do a better trade with the Lions. For me I want him to go where wants to be.
