Hey fellas, and the ladies

Thought I'ld increase my knowledge on the 'super draft', and hope one of you footy fenatics can help.

Noah Answerth, Ethan Floyd and Aaron Darling. Any reports, knowledge. How old can one start playing in TAC and till what age?

Gold Coast won’t match our offer because they will finish last therefore get the number 2 pick as compo because lynch will be highest paid player at Collingwood and be mid 20s in age

Agree. And to get it over the line we could do a separate trade for severe unders e.g

- trade a 2019 2nd round pick for one of their 2018 3rd round pick... helping us with points to land Quaynor

- send them a next tier midfielder of their liking e.g. experienced Greenwood or running Broomhead... up there for pick 100... in other words for free.

- Take a pricey spud off their hands for the remainder of his contract.... like how we took Golds off GWS to get Treloar deal over the line.

Plenty of ways to get a deal done.

Couldn't agree more, If the Suns finished last and Lynch walks as a free agent to us they will have the 1st 2 picks in the draft but as you stated we might need to give something up in a trade with them to get it over the line.

Oxley and Blair seems fair top up :)

If they finish last and we finish around the 8 we wont have to give them anything, they can't take the FA compo and demand more from us.

Not formally. But behind the scenes they can tell the pies that unless they get a sweetener, then they will match any bid from Collingwood thereby keeping Lynch at GC.

Pies would be smart to offer GC a sweetner.... something GC value but is spendable or expendable from our end.

Can't see GC letting Lynch go for only a top 5 compo pick. They will want more than that

That is called draft tampering.

It’s ok if the league sanctioned it, if not could get interesting

Adelaide used the same threat GC can use, we'll match unless you give us something.

If the deal works in GC favour, getting a player/picks for unders & GC keep the compo, you bet your bottom dollar the league will ok it. The AFL is corrupt/manages a situation to suit their desired outcome.

No it's not. The Cats traded for Danger.
Yeah it is, it's the threat I'm talking about.

They will threaten us but won't want to lose the compo, so we may sweeten the deal to make it palatable for them & the AFL.

GC will be able to match, just like Adelaide could.

Accepting free trade compo whilst also making a team give you an unbalanced trade will be viewed as draft tampering and will risk losing the compo. It won't happen. Pressuring a team to trade like Adelaide did isn't draft tampering.
What's the difference to the old PSD method?

The AFL signed off on that.

Take it to the bank that if the overall trade/keeping compo is better than what GC may receive by us trading the AFL will sign off on it.

There was no compo in the PSD. If you were referring to what Hawthorn and the Dogs did with Rawlings - there was a big upcry and the AFL changed the rules to make sure that it didn't happen again, but it was a totally different situation anyway.

How?

That's pretty much what happened with Danger.
No it's not, the Crows matched the deal forcing Geelong to trade as they knew they could get more from a trade, they didn't get the FA compo as well.

If we finish in the 8 and they finish bottom 2 the FA compo will outweigh anything they could get from us so we wont have to trade, if both clubs finish toward the bottom of the ladder we're screwed.

it's not about demanding more its about being creative, you can do some trades that are beneficial to them without being to one sided.

Agree but a slightly different scenario re: Danger with the Crows finishing in the 8 (6th or 7th from memory) meaning even the best compo wouldn't have surpassed Geelong's pick 8 or 9 (from memory). If this season GCS finish bottom 4 as many of us project and the Pies finishing (say) 7th-12th, our 1st round pick won't be as attractive as a pick immediately after their 1st round pick. Issue will come if the Suns think they can squeeze 2x 1st rounders (say 2018 & 2019 picks) out of us. I think it'll either be 1 or the other without any "sweeteners" being considered and the lower they finish and the higher we finish the better for us in terms of them accepting the FA compo.
