I don't know why Brisbane would take Robertson considering Neale, Lyons and openly talking about Rayner and McCarthy spending more time in the midfield - still reckon Robertson is on the board at our pick (if no one moves up the order).

Matt Balmer has them taking Gould and Dev sliding to us so fingers crossed!

What time does Day 2 - Round 2 onwards and Rookie draft start?
Assume its all done in one hit yeah?
Yep as Melbcat said 7pm. Took me a while to find it on the AFL page to confirm.

EDIT - Day 2 starts at 7pm. No time listed for Rookie draft that I could find. But I think in past years Rookie draft has been in the afternoon????

You never really know what youre going to get. Check out this bloke spraying his kicks and fumbling his marks.. pretty light on too.
When I saw the 'fumbling' issue being raised the first player I thought of was Joel Corey when he first started out. Always fumbling...thought to myself this Joel Corey guy is never going to make it!

T
So we have a bull who has shown he is talented before injury. I think Wells liked his 6 pack too
And we have a skinny kid who won't play for a couple of years for the seniors
Not what I hoped for in the first round
I thought we might take Stephens with our second pick but not first

De Koning is a next generation player... If we are going to rebuild its best to start with KPP. They take years to develop.. Mids don't take that long at all...

I hope you guys are prepared for Robertson to last to our next pick and for us to pass on him again, because that's what my gut's telling me is happening. Unless a team is trading up to take him before that

In a new day I think we can at least acknowledge that we’ve added to our midfield with Stephens. If he can become that big ball winning inside type that can run all day then we’ve done well. No go home factor to worry about...
I was happy to take him pre-draft. Do we think the Blues were going to take him with their Kemp pick? I get that feeling now. If they hadn’t traded down I wonder whether we would have taken him at 17 and another with 14? We’ll never probably know the answer.

If they have cameras in the room like last year ..perhaps the answers will eventually come forth ..
In the end I suspect we could have traded and got Flanders if we had wanted to ... Id estimate that the chance to have Stephens and Dek is a better chances of success than just one bet on a player. Dek is earlier than I had thought way back when I liked him in the champs but really we are such poor judges of worth... the draft is a moving template and the club seems to have jumped to get players they wanted based on some sort of knowledge that Car and Rich need mids ..and Port may have shown interest in Dek. I wonder if down the track we may look at his brother at Carlton who seems more of a ruck type ..or if they are perhaps too similar to each other.

He is the one I wanted most, I wanted us to take him at 19 but Wells obviously had other ideas, he wont get to us now based on the fact that 3 of the 4 picks before ours are by Port and Adelaide which sucks.

Will Gould will play 1st rd and win a rising star for sure, why we don't see the obvious or don't want to beats me.
Consolation is there's been odd picks and plenty of good players left.
Just need to get these next two right.

I'm not sure? The tone of that interview of Selwood's with Stephens suggested to me that they had a predetermined strategy to take him with our first pick. It appeared that Stephens was aware of the strategy as well. Could be wrong. I'm pretty sure though that Carl and Rich would have both taken him if he'd fallen to them so he's clearly quite highly rated more broadly.

With Dek I reckon that you are more on the money. Port probably had him in their sights. If we didn't strike then he would be gone. I much prefer him to Worrell who was the other name linked with us pre draft so happy with that result. Just going to have to be put away for a few pre seasons before we see him in the senior team.

T

Is their midfield that bad or something?? Why would you trade up for another mid, when you already got two gun mids with 1 and 2...
No idea about the motive of drafting him other than, in his own words 'I am an explosive player on the edge .... will get reported from time to time .. have the ability to change a game off my own boot' - I guess a club like Gold Coast could enjoy a bit of talent with a giant ego.
I get the feeling that giant ego was the reason he and his family looked like they were sucking lemons when Gold Coast picked him though.. not going to be too many people around to worship him up there.

Balmer still has us taking Robertson. Very funny!

If there is a player that would add extreme talent to our list its the player listed after Robertson .. Taylor ..could add Narkle type class ... so do we add leadership in Robertson or do we look at it another way. Robertson would be a heck of and add..it might just about ensure we have our new midfield stocks covered. I know the club is making noises like it has plenty of young players waiting their chances etc.. but they do not have his credentials.
Cooper Stephens impressed while training at Geelong and so did Flynn Perez... do we take another we have seen up close?
Or do we look at adding another tall earlier than what is thought. I with look at the estimated picks in that thread.. if Jones is there etc but he probably is not ..but what do we do if we want another forward type. We were looking at Georgadies etc.. so that tells me someoen like Riccardi might appeal if they feel he has the underlying attributes to play at the level. Would seem a good pick to have coverage for Hawkins long term.

We'll see. I'm now expecting the unexpected. Balmer has them taking Gould which I can see too. They will need to take Gould here if they want him.

True adel will take gould so if he goes 22 or 23 it might push dev to us.

Im expecting us to take bianco or rantall which would be meh for me id prefer robertson sharp or gould (if he somehow gets through).

I'd now leave the talls alone - at least until the rookie draft. I think if Robertson is there at 26 then we have to take him. Our young group of mids as you say would look very healthy - Narkle, Constable, Parfitt, Fogarty, Cockatoo, Stephens and Robertson. Not a bad group.

Personally I'd be going Robertson and Sharp/Williams if available for our last two picks. Have a feeling though we may take Sharp next.

Desperately hoping we get Robertson but won’t happen. A smarter team will trade in front or we will pass altogether (can see us regretting it later ala Grundy - not that I think he’ll be as good as Grundy, more that he will be a really good high production mid).

Assuming no Robertson I like schoenfield and wouldn’t be upset with Jones or Gould or Sharp. Bianco is a bit meh to me, I think he has a higher bust risk.

Looks can be deceiving .. as I said perhaps down the trace we will know more. Once it all settles down I think mst will be happy with him as a very percentage smart pick. Unlike Fogarty or Parfitt etc.. he is a big boy and will be able to hold his own ..perhaps earlier than Constable as he has the legs to run. Pressure will be on CC now..or perhaps together they compliment each other.

I have not seen any combine results for Dek.. that was my querry on him... does he have spring. He reminded me a bit of Blitz at times in the champs ..someone not like that but Blitz generally is a good mark ..and Dek is taller...as long as he can out jump Fort then he hs a huge amount of upside. I can remember a discussion with Knightmare where he to was on your train with McAsey.. but I think he had Dek as potentially a very higher ceilling but less developed ...I will have to look at his post draft notes..

Yes, Bianco doesn't excite me. Neat player but bit too vanilla for mine...

Robertson will make it to us. Just have absolutely no faith that we'll take him. Whether that be go home factor, or his kicking or whatever, Wells and other recruiters clearly don't rate him.

I have full belief that this kid will go on to be a star. Just has that look in his eye and that manic attack on the ball. Looked pissed at the draft as well, he'll be determined to go out there and prove all the recruiters wrong.
