Gooch has all the tools to be a quality half forward. Why would you have an issue with us playing him there. Someone needs to do it! Should have stuck with him he has something.
Agree he should not have been dropped, but my belief is that he’s a midfielder and should be getting a lot more time in the middle to develop.

Our midfield badly needs to be rebuilt around Milera and Gallucci should be a part of that IMO.

I don't get why the graveyard isn't a position with at least some midfield/wing rotation?

Improves midfield rotations, the front liners get a break, disrupts the opposition, those on the graveyard shift get a chance to find some easier ball.

This doesn't apply to your high end skilful forwards (Betts, Stengle), moreso to those second tier mids shunted to the forward line to perform that role (eg Gallucci, Knight, Murphy or whoever else in the team). Some may be suited to mid rotation while others like Davis may rotate to a wing.

That presser / Duursma is good and in form but young / nah he’s drppped coz of his form/

I don’t even understand half what he says .....
Sadly for us, the Port hierarchy surely watch that and realise Kenny needs to be moved on.

Thank God his contract is an albatross around their necks. He needs to stay in place until Boak/Gray fall off the cliff.

Hope like hell his manager can't convince another club to take him. Beware if they have another big win this year.

You’re embarrassing yourself now. He was a very average half forward that couldn’t nail a spot. Because it’s a graveyard spot.

The fact is he’s a quality mid which we couldn’t or wouldn’t see. Gallucci is exactly the same
He played all his junior footy as a forward, but you wouldn't know that would you.

Still, you think he'd make our starting middle...... c'mon Pete you couldn't possibly believe that.

Pete has these moments at times, it's best to leave him be

Point being that we don’t identify and develop leading midfielders.

Since the golden days of Roo, McLeod and Goodwin, we’ve had 2 x AA nominated mids. Once each for Sloane and M Crouch. Neither look like adding a second.

No coincidence that we are 21 years without a flag - and don’t look like adding one anytime soon

We wanted to keep the bloke, he didn't want to stay for the salary offered. That's fair enough on both counts I'd have thought.

Also he is NOT a leading midfielder. He's not better than Sloane or either Crouch, and I'd say on the balance of their careers he's not better than Greenwood either.

As you say, we need more a dynamic look to our midfield which Lyons doesn't add. We threw so many players through there Saturday night which was good to see. Witches hats against them yes, but I'm hopeful that continues.

So it appears that Coniglio has not done his ACL but his knee injury means he wont play another game for the rest of the year, which implies probably played his last game for GWS.

I wonder if he did his ACL, if he would have been "forced" to stay if the Vic clubs would have rejected their offer for him.

Sliding Doors moment.

No he doesn’t immediately present as being a better player individually, but is he part of a midfield group that’s functioning better, and so he looks better? Of course he is. Gallucci should look elsewhere too.

I’m also hopeful our midfield is being recast, but I fear the moment we face serious opposition the nerve will be lost

Jaeger O'Meara thread

Saw FOG run through the midfield in the SANFL on the weekend, he certainly seems like he could pinch hit in there from time to time like Pavlich and the like used to
Thought he had some excellent moments on ball. 4 clearances and 3 I50’s in his 15 touches + 7 tackles. Best he’s looked for a while and showed he has an all round game.

Would it?

He destroyed Port today. Our midfield generated 12 I50’s in a half.

What does that say about our recognition and development of his talent?

We backed a midfield that’s been failing since 2015

Not to mention a midfield coach that has achieved buxxxr all in 14 years ? And is currently masterminding our steady featureless slide to oblivion. Still, we are a comfortable club even after non acceptable weekly results and wasted seasons.m

Dangerfield? Thompson?

Notice any sort of trend here Pete?

Nathan Fyfe #20 and Lachie Neale #56 the only outliers.

Adam Treloar - Under age selection GWS - Toss up with Shiel as to who goes #1 in the 2011 draft if available
Dylan Shiel - Under age selection GWS
Andrew Gaff - #4
Dusty Martin - #3
Stephen Coniglio - #2
Marcus Bontompelli - #4
Patrick Dangerfield - # 10 - Developed pretty well....how many AA's was that again? Or are you crediting the Cats with his development?
Scott Thompson - #16 - AA unless you're crediting the Demons with his development?

Travis Boak - #5
Ben Cunnington - #5
Clayton Oliver - #4
Josh Kelly - #2
Jackson Macrae - #6
Scott Pendlebury - #5
Tim Taranto - #2
Patrick Cripps - #13
Trent Cotchin - #2
Dyson Heppell - #8
Josh Kennedy #40 Father/Son under the old rule, 1 year before it was changed

Dangerfield? Thompson?
Bugger, you beat me by a minute, mind you I was really making the case for the very best mids are generally high end draft picks.....not sure it's down to development nearly as much as it's the talent base they already had.

Now to just back that up for 8 weeks...

“We don’t apologise for being an aggressive....”

Hinkley you twatt! You’ve got a team three quarters full of lightweights.

One oafish thug who costs more than he gives on field, one sex offender, one genuine thug full back, and an inked up useless heartless skinhead does not a tuff team make. You total tosser.

Please stay at Port, and please keep playing your tuff hit squad.

The funny thing is, they were “an aggressive team” by roughing up Neale in the first half, then in the second half they stopped doing it because it wasn’t working :D

It’s ok Ken, we know that you’ll never, ever give up
