Dons need pick 1. They only want Logan.

Yeah I was just about to mention this. My guess is that Bombers are only keen on trading up for a certain player. The road to the draft podcast yesterday with Twomey gave a bit of insight into what is currently going on behind the scenes. Some takes from that interview were:
  • Best Key Forwards in order JUH, McDonald, Thilthorpe, Cox (Essendon are interested), Matthew Allison
  • Crows working on McDonald/Hollands/Thilthorpe
  • Collingwood keen to bundle 14 16 and future 1st
  • Gold Coast wanted to move up from 5 to 2, North Rejected the swap
  • Essendon linked to Cox, Interested in Archie Perkins and so is Hawthorn would be a surprise if he went at 4
  • Unlikely for Essendon to trade up
  • DGB the one least likely to fall out of the top 5
  • Nathan O'Driscoll likely 15-25 range a bargain after 25
  • First 5, Next 7, then Next 10 in groups of talents
I'll also add:
  • Hollands unlikely to slide. If he doesn't go Pick 1 (or 2 if we bid on JUH) it sounds like he'll get picked up by North, Syd or Hawks, who've apparently have a fair bit of interest in him.
  • Crows are still open to trading Pick 1 if the 'right deal' is on the table.
  • Brayden Cook likely to be a draft bolter

So one of the advantages Perkins has over Hollands is his speed and acceleration which is 17 vs Hollands 13. I have only watched highlights of both, which isn't much and I'm no expert obviously, but is the difference in speed that noticeable? I'm keen to hear your thoughts on this.

Hollands does have a lack of speed. He makes up a lot that with of size and strength (think Fyfe) with his awareness and evasivenss. Awareness to pick the right time to hit full speed.

The major problem with Perkins is his mental side of the game, and he has many deficiencies in that department. It would take him years to get him up to speed, let alone an elite level (think Jack Watts). At the moment he's a very good athlete that's a semi-footballer. In this case you might as well get DGB and turn him into a midfielder.

Thanks for the insight. I see the key difference now. If given a choice, I'd much rather take a footballer over an athlete.

I'd take Eddie Ford over Perkins. Whoever picks up Ford will get a steal.

Call himself a "confidence player". Not sure I like that.

I hope he doesn't mean 'confidence player' in the traditional sense.. As in a ''can only play to potential when everything is going right for him" type.

I like Perkins a lot just to be clear. Only hope he doesn't mean in that respect.

He's an exciting prospect, wouldn't be gutted if he lands at Waverly.

Where do you rate Poulter?

Yeah 100%, I just watched last years Team Brown vs Team Dal Santo game for the first time and found Ford super impressive.

Hoping we grab Hollands over Phillips with pick 4, as I'm not a big fan of small insider midfielders and Phillips lack of versatility worries me a little. Having a midfielder that can play other positions as well will help with our team flexibility and rotations.

The only thing I don't like about Ford is that his kicking is only a 14. I would really like us to focus on players that have great kicking skills.

Dons need pick 1. They only want Logan.
So if the Crows go Tilthorpe and norf go Hollands and The swans go DBG the question is do we want McDonald or Phillips or Perking...and how badly do essendon want the Joey replacement?? If all they want is McDonald and he falls to 4 then we say 6 and 8 for 4. They get their man and we get a combination of top 10 picks

No. We snap up Logan.

But it won't happen. Close to zero chance.

At that point, rather than being cute, I'd hope Hawthorn just thank their luck and take McDonald.
