Just for the record and nothing personal towards the kid.

I don't care if we get him or not. I'm not invested. I don't see him as a free hit because he isn't. We will get called on him prior to pick 24, he is basically a second round selection as it stands, it only changes should he last past our pick 24 then I say happy days.
I don't think he will last until 24.
I mean he would be worthy as a 2nd round selection. Would be a fantastic result if he went after 24 so we could add another talented player. Or if we trade up to like 20.

33 will be wiped out with a bid in the top few picks

Ok say they're left with pick 41, 42 and 54 if Crows don't bid and North do.

Sill takes a fair amount of points out of the draft and moves everyone up the board.

Whoa. Plenty to catch up on here. Love our ITK posters keeping us in the loop. I really hope they aren't privy to that kind of info though. There should be small handful of people who know our thoughts regarding the draft. That kind of info can shape earlier selections (eg. the Rough/Bud selections) Regardless I'll be excited by whoever we pick up. Bring on next week!

Perkins is my pick, quality ball user, pace and kicks goals. Hoping downie falls outside our 24 otherwise I think future pick next year will be huge. So much unknown this year. Day was not on the radar until his last 12 months. Many late development in kids will be missed

If they bid with Pick 1 and hand centre stage to the Dogs to unfurl JUH I will laugh hard.

Not sure how it would be a pragmatic decision to bid on a player that will be an automatic match.
I understand your logic but there is no centre stage during these times. I don’t think No.1 tag is as bigger deal as you’re making out. Bottom line is the ‘best’ player will get selected and all we really care about is the Hawks & who walks thru that door.

It's all true, but the league and it's clubs are all about the optics.

Pick 1 carries weight for that reason, but they may surprise me.

I'm not sure how Perkins is Will Day anymore if everyone likes him.

I understand the sentiment. However he is a very talented player and one of, if not the, best kicks in the draft. He absolutely fits a position of need in terms of his skill set and the position he has predominantly played.

With the discount it is awesome value, especially if he sneaks past our second pick.

I haven't read much of this thread recently so this may have already been discussed - but just flagging that I've listened to 2 separate mock draft podcasts (Lystics and Road to the Draft) and they both had the first round extending out to Pick 26/27ish due to the matching of bids. IF that were the case in the actual draft, that would mean our current Pick 24 would be pushed out until at least Pick 30. The general consensus is that Downie is rated around the 20-25 mark.

I'm not saying that these things will play out exactly in that way just because it did in these mock drafts, but I do think there is genuine cause for us to be shopping around the Pick 24 either in a package to move up to ensure we are ahead of the bid or at least into next year to avoid the awkward situation of the bid coming before it.

I'd be looking to trade it to Geelong in exchange for Essendon's 2021 Second Round Selection 😉

Remember, when clubs match early bids, they will often lose a pick in doing so, meaning teams positioned later may not slide down as much as predicted. e.g. if a team choose to match a bid on 15, and uses their pick 25, the next teams pick will still be 26 as it was beforehand.

I wonder if this is sometimes missed when they talk about pick sliding so much

we did a Bigfooty Phantom Draft including most of the talent watches on Bigfooty, if you want to check it out, it's from well informed people who watch a lot of u/18 and state leagues so you dont have to, i'll link it in this post.

Awesome work - thanks 😁

With this years rule change on using as many picks as you want, all the teams that know they are matching bids have already traded theirs higher picks out for more points. All the picks used for matching are after the Cats pick 27, so it will slide with each match.

I don't think I follow you here.

Just say we have to match an early 20’pick for Downie and with the discount we keep intact the three 40 something picks. Do we take three players ?
What do we take? A forward a ruck type? A tall defender? A small forward? An outside mid with pace?
I know It depends on what we get but surely given we have the spots on the list could it be an option?
one or two should turn out okay?🤞

I'm still of the opinion that Bruhn is the best player in the pool, love if we could trade our first two picks for Reid, Perkins and Bruhn, wouldn't have to worry about a bid for downie either

Is GWS 3 picks still on the table? It is such a strange year. You hear that many talents that did not get to showcase and be picked up top 20 will not even be picked up. Some say outside of non victorians Thilthorpe,McDonald, DBG, pick 4 should be traded. It is so strange to see Perkins being called a bolter if victorians have not played all year. Let us say worst situation, Picks 10,13&26 for 4, you would think one of Bruhn/Reid (I would prefer), Henry/Chapman, Downie, O'Driscoll/Ford/Poulter. Even keep pick 4, Downie pick 24, have 3 3rd rounders, it is that kind of a year when pick 60 could turn out better than pick 24, some luck, how much work scouts put in. Having said that other states have showcased players this year.

Perkins isn’t really a quality ball user though. That’s one knock on him

It all depends how much homework the club has done, It is one of those years, pick 60 player could be better than pick 20

Is there any chance that Wright will look to target a young ruckman with one of those late picks? In two years time McEvoy, Ceglar and Brooksby all won’t be on the list.
Reeves is on the list. Would make no sense to fill a spot on the list with another developing ruck
