As an aside. If we were really screwed culture wise why the hell would 15 players be wanting to hang out together after being locked together for months.
Has there been knocks on culture (other than BF commentary)?

I thought there'd been a couple of main knocks:
  • Coaching
  • Effort
  • Salary cap management
Even the articles talking about how many players we might lose haven't been suggesting it's because players "want out", it's largely been focused on how they're getting massive offers from other clubs.

This. We can’t keep Williams when offers are that big. At least we receive pick 9 at worst for him.

It has been mostly those 3. But have seen a lot of culture and somethings rotten etc from journos.

That midfield has a very Melbourne feel about it with Viney, Brayshaw, Jones, etc
Yet imagine if we had a ruckman like Gawn, we need an A grade ruckman

We can't go -20 in hit outs every week, it was a issue last season, issue this season and if we don't bring in a ruck this trade period it will continue into next

As an aside, a midfield of Green, Hopper, Taranto and Coniglio lacks some speed. Too many good inside players with not enough speed and kicking penetration.

It amazes me that people outside our supporter group are just noting this now?

We’ve been one paced through the guts for eons. You don’t lose Treloar and Shiel and replace them with Taranto and Hopper and come out faster.

We are unbalanced and one of Taranto, Hopper, Green will need to go at some point.

I don’t mind the idea of trying Daniels more in the midfield, he is zippy, has a great tank and could be a point of difference.

I've said all year I wouldn't hate us exploring moving Hopper on for a Hybrid type with a bit of speed, could keep it local and look at Florent, Sandy team mate of TT as well. Obviously won't happen but that's the type of aggressive trade move I'd love to see us make, and actively improve our list rather than only draft players constantly

So with Williams, Shaw, Corr and Mumford off the books I reckon we can keep Cameron and Caldwell easily.
I'm not comfortably matching the reported 400-500k offers Caldwell is getting. I'm a fan but he hasn't done enough when given the chance to warrant that sort of money

The Finlayson signing means we have 4 talls currently then add De Boer on a Flank when we are not playing negative in the middle

Both ruck / midfield and forward structures need huge change

The transition out of the back half is the biggest problem for mine
Wouldn't mind looking at Witherden from Brisbane for this, would be a decent Shaw replacement as a slower general defender with good disposal, allos Ash to be a bit more free and make those runs we want him to to

If you loose the ruck hit outs week in week out and then play a tagger that's 2 out of 5 spots in the middle we are already conceding

The ball then is going most times straight to their forward line, putting pressure on our backs with no Taylor, Davis or Corr at times during the season

Don't need to transition out of the back that much if the midfield battle was won

I was literally talking to a mate about this last night. I totally agree. He takes the kick outs too which means Whitfield can push higher up the ground. Really rate this move.... if we loose Williams I’m hoping we make a play for him

But we played the same set up with those same players and got to a GF with it. You don’t need to win the hit outs to win the clearances. last year that’s was our biggest strength

we just get locked into our back half and cannot transition it

Toby Greene should be played primarily as a midfielder, going forward to rest and when a spark is required. He’s a brilliant midfielder and is wasted as he’s been used.
When they use him forward he should be left one-out deep more often.
Toby is our POD going forward, we need to draft someone with similar attributes in the forwardline if we move him into the midfield because we simply can't function without him (see every game he doesn't play). It's why I like an Oliver Henry/ Eddie Ford type in the draft that are that 186-188 cm and have great hands overhead for their height, it allows us that flexibility

He wouldn't be comfortably in the best 22 for Brisbane either right? I hope we make a play at him.

Yes we made it to the GF, but prior to the finals we still had some of the problems we are having now

We had some huge problems prior the finals last season yet how well we played in the 1st 3 weeks made some forget that and we didn’t roll the dice enough in fixing those issues

Ash will go along way in a couple of seasons but wasn’t short term
