I think the footy industry has always considered the Giants to have a great culture.Has there been knocks on culture (other than BF commentary)?
I thought there'd been a couple of main knocks:
Even the articles talking about how many players we might lose haven't been suggesting it's because players "want out", it's largely been focused on how they're getting massive offers from other clubs.
- Coaching
- Effort
- Salary cap management
We’ve got the Shaw replacement in Cumming. And we have Ash for Williams. Add in Whitfield, who plays his best footy down back.I was literally talking to a mate about this last night. I totally agree. He takes the kick outs too which means Whitfield can push higher up the ground. Really rate this move.... if we loose Williams I’m hoping we make a play for him
100% agree with this. The problem is that he's contracted - for another 2 years. But this season he's been out of the Lions' preferred line (dlanod can probably explain why), so if we essentially promise him that Shaw role - at which I think he'd be fantastic - then it would help us. Shaw's best was fantastic for us - look at his AA years, plus his little cameos the last two years - it's just the slow degradation of skills such that his current normal output isn't enough.Wouldn't mind looking at Witherden from Brisbane for this, would be a decent Shaw replacement as a slower general defender with good disposal, allos Ash to be a bit more free and make those runs we want him to to

There's at least some chance that could become a Brodie or Scrimshaw-type decision.I'm not comfortably matching the reported 400-500k offers Caldwell is getting. I'm a fan but he hasn't done enough when given the chance to warrant that sort of money
dlanod definitley our best incite, but for a guy thats shown as much as Witherden, at his age, a future second I'd be pretty happy departing with for him, hell if we get Band 2 or 3 for Corr I'm happy shipping that off100% agree with this. That's the worry, and we've seen what giving these guys big contracts has done to us in the past with Bonar and especially Setterfield where we have to take unders to get the cash off the booksThere's at least some chance that could become a Brodie or Scrimshaw-type decision.
I've said all year I wouldn't hate us exploring moving Hopper on for a Hybrid type with a bit of speed, could keep it local and look at Florent, Sandy team mate of TT as well. Obviously won't happen but that's the type of aggressive trade move I'd love to see us make, and actively improve our list rather than only draft players constantly
Toby is our POD going forward, we need to draft someone with similar attributes in the forwardline if we move him into the midfield because we simply can't function without him (see every game he doesn't play). It's why I like an Oliver Henry/ Eddie Ford type in the draft that are that 186-188 cm and have great hands overhead for their height, it allows us that flexibility
TPP would play a part, and I've been saying we need a KPD all year (I'm in favour of drafting so we have a long term partner for Taylor) but trading for one might be the more effective way, if ones available. Easier to find a year one ready Hybrid mid in a draft than it is to find a year one ready KPD. The other part is how attractive of a prospect are we to players not at the club? Not many players move to a state that isn't their home state if it isn't a traditional football state, unless it's for overs, so we're in a tricky spotMight be TPP related? Getting them via draft is cheaper albeit more risky. Would love some more pace but would love for us to bring in a quality Key defender and a ruck.
I can't even describe my love for Butters as a player, if we had our time again I think he would've been our first pick, been electric for Port
Petrucelle has literally just re-signed with West Coast for 2 years.maybe someone like petreclle from west coast might be someone worth a run at. Pace to burn and starved of chances. I imagine he would be cheap
I like Cumming as a Wing prospect more than defender, just doesn't have the necessary defensive craft when I watch him, but given the option to be switch kick/ back outlet at a stoppage I reckon he'd do some serious damageIsaac Cumming had a few good touches last night - as he has had in previous games - but he doesn't get his hands on the ball enough for mine. Now that may be something he rectifies going forward with a more settled role. But I still think that Witherden is a more composed and precise distributor - I'd have Cumming and Ash (presuming Williams goes) as the guys running off him. That also leaves Whitfield further upfield to help that transition from back half to forward half.
Lachie can always rotate within a game with either Ash or Cumming just to mix it around.
But, like others, I don't think we'll be imaginative enough to try such a heist. (Even if Witherden was interested.)
No. He doesn’t have a good tank. He has more explosive speed.I like Cumming as a Wing prospect more than defender, just doesn't have the necessary defensive craft when I watch him, but given the option to be switch kick/ back outlet at a stoppage I reckon he'd do some serious damage
I worry about a guy that's been in the system 4-5 years and hasn't developed a good tank. Regardless, if he hasn't got that fitness to play Wing than maybe his future is in the forwardline as a Toby like presence with his marking? No. He doesn’t have a good tank. He has more explosive speed.
He was playing really well until he did his hammy. He can mark overhead superbly. And he is a good kick. Give him a chance.

Could that not just be Caldwell though? Working off the assumption Caldwell is leaving with that one, but also don't think he's quite got the top speed of Florent personally, but if Caldwell were to stay a starting midfield of Caldwell, TT and Green wouldn't be something I complain aboutCould that not just be Caldwell though? I love the burst of Caldwell, even if he hasn't shown a lot of it at AFL level yet. Got a lot of grunt too, just such a perfect inside player. I felt there wasn't a huge gap between him and Bailey Smith in their draft year, with Caldwell showing more vision in traffic, but Smith just being a better kick and more durable really.Working off the assumption Caldwell is leaving with that one, but also don't think he's quite got the top speed of Florent personally, but if Caldwell were to stay a starting midfield of Caldwell, TT and Green wouldn't be something I complain about
