This is Part 1

The thread is continued in part 2:

In the end we brought Hogan in because he wanted back home to deal with his issues off the field and injuries.

Unfortunately for him neither of those have been sorted going into his third year at Freo. More so that he doesn't exactly hide his private life so that adds fuel to the fire.

I feel he may always be a player that will have question marks next to his name no matter where he goes. He did at Melbourne, he did here and he will most probably have them wherever he goes next.

Talented but sometimes it just isn't meant to be.
First and foremost we brought Hogan in because our forward line is bog ordinary and desperately needs another decent KPF.

This looks like good news !
Is he worthy?
I don't remember much about him as a player ?
Always thought he was Nigel Lappin of that Geelong midfield. Brilliant player and brilliant footy mind just overshadowed by the flashier players around him

Well it seems people completely blank out that Hogan has had injury interruptions in both the years he has been at Freo so far and just saying he is a shadow of what he was before he came a bit out of context. And this year when he will finally get a pre season in we fk him off, I won't be surprised if he kicks 50+ next year for someone else.

However yes it is because of his off field stuff that he is on the outer.
Mundy missed this pre-season as well (broken leg) but was still able to kick goals in more games than Hogan (3 v 2). A 35 year old midfielder.

It would be silly to think that Hogan would be at his best due to his injuries and interrupted preparations. But when he was fit and available he went 5 games in a row without scoring. That is terrible.

Taberner -- not in the same postcode as Hogan in terms of talent -- has never has such a poor run.

Neither had McCarthy (and he doesnt have a career anymore).

If someone like Schultz had done the same as Hogan, the chorus on here was that height AFL standard".

A big part of a KPF is impacting on the scoreboard. When fit and available he had ample opportunities to do so.

They traded their first this season to Adelaide to trade up the order, so their deficit was applied to their first available pick at the end of the season.

Johnny is right, we could have traded our 2020 first pick last year at the draft, probably similar to how Gold Coast swapped pick #11 for a mid twenties purchase of Sharp.

We would have needed to end up with a 2020 2nd, 2020 3rd and 2020 4th to trade our 2020 1st though.

Can someone please explain how Geelong can offer Cameron 5 mil over 5 but we can reportedly have salary cap issues with our list? It defies belief.
I believe they have one player contracted for 2023.

A five year deal over 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 can have all the money in the last two years where they have $25,000,000 in cap space available.

If we have cap issues it's just for 2021

Coming off no pre-seasons and mid season injuries it is understandable his output was below par. The end of this year where he had a been fit and training for a long period of time he actually started to look like what he was expected to be when he arrived.

It took Mundy a good 3 or 4 games to click into gear and he's a veteran well integrated into the team. Hogan likewise took a few games to get going (and an in a drip fed forward line that was 3rd lowest scoring) in the league that he's new to. He still got there in the end.

apparently not

Really would love to see Damo Barrett and the guys in trade radio discuss this on Monday. The reality is that it won’t change. The AFL don’t give a dogs s**t about the Fremantle Dockers and never have. It will barely even merit a mention. Absolute bullshit that we finished 2 places below GWS but have to slide back coz of their compo picks. They could easily create a system where we hold our place in the draft order after the deficit is applied and then insert the GWS compo picks around that. They won’t, of course.

Isnt Taylor a KPD? Not sure it has a major impact on the status of Jordan Clark really

Also now Geelong is more desperate for KPD, they are more likely to give us Clark, if we let them have one of our 4 talls. I would give them Hamling. Does anyone think they could swallow their pride and take him back?

Geelong just do whatever they think improves their chance of a premiership, but I would think getting Hamling would be outside their salary cap range. Taking Smith from their bitterest rivals is a more significant hit to their pride.

Bring in a KPF who’s finally WA. Not a Victorian like Croad and Tarrant. Now we push him out instead of the usual I want to go home.
This club sometimes...

either way the points are applied we are in a bit of strife. If we wait for compo picks to be put in our pick 7 may be pushed back to pick 9. Adding our deficit takes us to somewhere between 14/15.
