North Melbourne
Who left: Shaun Higgins, Ben Brown

Who arrived: Aidan Corr, Lachie Young, Jaidyn Stephenson, Atu Bosenavulagi

2020 NAB AFL Draft picks: 2, 11, 30, 39, 71, 81

Future picks: North Melbourne gave its future fourth-round pick to Melbourne as part of the Brown trade, while in turn receiving a future fourth-round pick that is tied to Brisbane. The Kangaroos then traded that fourth-round selection to Collingwood in a deal for Stephenson and Bosenavulagi.

We say: There are two crucial aspects to North Melbourne's trade period. Yes, the Kangaroos might not have got the returns they'd have ideally liked for Higgins and Brown, but in Corr and Stephenson, in particular, the club was able to lure two players who could prove pivotal to its rebuild. They also didn't part with much either, luring Corr as a free agent and capitalising on Collingwood's problems by signing Stephenson on a cut-price deal. Young and Bosenavulagi are exciting sweeteners who will get senior opportunities next season. - Riley Beveridge

Grade: 7/10 (ranked 9th)
8 other clubs had better trade periods than us? I don't think Melbourne had a better result than we did for a start

I’m happy either way. I don’t want pick 2 traded out. McDonald or Hollands are really exciting. I wish we could get Phillips too, then we could have taken McDonald without a moment of thought.

If we are confident we will be better in 2021 than we were this year and get out of the bottom 6 we could tempt GC with our first next year (they may think it could be Horne) for pick 5, we would want to get our shit together though and not finish last, cause that could be embarrassing

Just on Pick 2 and GC - and the suggestion of 5 + 2021 First + Powell/27

- 2021 First could become 10, GC will improve again next year + Daicos academy.
- We might not view the top 5 as high as the top 4, 3 or 2.
- Powell will not be traded, GC list manager said so last week.
- 27 is a garbage pick for 2.

This is from Footyology. The comparison of the Pies fire sale to what * did back in the early 2000's was interesting, time will tell I guess.

THE TRADES – DAY 9: PIES HIT HARDEST BY TRADE BOMBSHELLS
Posted by Ronny Lerner | Nov 12, 2020

The 2020 AFL trade period has come to an end with the customary amount of high drama synonymous with the final day.

A total of 11 players found new homes on a frantic Thursday before the 7.30pm deadline expired (well, some of them changed clubs slightly afterwards due to the logjam of late submissions).

But despite all of the mayhem, which included big names such as Jeremy Cameron and Ben Brown getting to their desired destinations of Geelong and Melbourne respectively, Collingwood stole all the headlines – and for the wrong reasons, too.

Essendon and North Melbourne probably headed into the annual exchange period as the clubs most in turmoil, but the Magpies have put up their hand to form the top three because they are now a club swimming in questions that need to be answered.

On day nine of the trade period, Collingwood off-loaded star midfielder Adam Treloar (Western Bulldogs), 2018 Rising Star winner Jaidyn Stephenson (North Melbourne) and the consistent Tom Phillips (Hawthorn) – three players who all played in the 2018 grand final which the Magpies narrowly lost – as well as the promising Atu Bosenavulagi (North Melbourne).

It’s all amounted to a massive salary dump which has seemingly been precipitated by salary cap mismanagement.

How did it get to this for the Magpies? Well, on top of the inflated contracts that Treloar, Stephenson and Phillips were given, the disastrous Dayne Beams deal, which was due to expire in 2022, has also been hanging over Collingwood’s head in recent years.

The alarming situation at the Holden Centre is reminiscent of what happened at Essendon back in 2001-02 when it was forced to part ways with premiership favourite sons Damien Hardwick, Blake Caracella, Chris Heffernan and Justin Blumfield. Those moves pretty much ripped the guts out of the club and suffice to say, it hasn’t recovered.

Collingwood fans have been in uproar on talkback radio and social media over the trades which have taken place, and they no doubt feel anxious as to what kind of long-lasting impact this fateful day will have on their beloved club.

Yep, I want Hollands to round out the midfield and we can pump games into Comben and Xerri. Pick up a kpf gem with 11 or 30. I have more confidence landing a decent kpp later in the draft than a gun mid.
I agree you can never have enough gun mids, but I am supremely confident that LDU will be an all time great and make others look good. Picking up a KPF gem later is more the exception than the norm....We just happen to have done well with Larkey, BB,and Petrie. But plenty of others we've drafted that never made it. Consider those since the Carey/Longmire/McKernan era. Sav, Thompson & W80 been brought in. Jase McArtney started out as a FF although mostly played in defence for us (did play forward in his last game for us). When longmire was inured, we moved Craig Sholl from a bank flank to FF. Darren Crocker played FF in the 96 premiership. Gee I remember going to a game with Kanga Kennedy coaching down at Kardinia park and Allister Clarkson was playing FF for us. Plenty of speculative key forward picks over the years most of them never went close for lack of talent/inury or whatever. Rare we get access to high draft pick where key forwards are highly rated and think we should take it. Plenty of speculative key forwards I can think of in the last 30 years we had that never made it or had marginal careers: Paul Bryce, Warwick Angus, Mark Brayshaw, Michael Gallagher (ruck/forward) Hayden Lumsden, Robert Saggers, Eric Lissendon, Jason Danitlchenko, Mark Hepburn, Peter Mann, Mark Stevens,, Anthony Mellington, Julian Kirzner, Paul Wynd, Evan Hewitt, Chris Groom, Kent Kingsley (moderate success after leaving), Chad Jones, Brent LaCras, Brad Moran, Josh Smith, Aaron Black, Mason Wood, Majak, and Tom Curran.........One we did get right but traded him out was Cam Mooney. So in a nutshell, if there's a key forward available at 2 who the vast majority of clubs thing is a 10 year player and star at that, we shouldn't hesitate to take him, hoping to pick up a decent kpp later is more the exception than the norm.

What part are you missing?
I think the more telling question is what part are you missing?

Don't answer, leave that for the folks at home!

Riddle me this though..... Why would our current list management team (or future ones for that matter) make decisions based on the mistakes of the people that went before them?

I think we get this right or no more GWS rejects.

I think we back the people we are paying to do the job to get it right, and hold them accountable if and when they get it wrong.

I think the days of making broad statements that sound good but mean nothing are behind us.

We should be open to all "rejects" from other clubs that make our list better and we should be employing the people that get those decisions right more often than the people employed at other clubs.

Anyway you were saying how important Bonar is to you, please go on.....

I had such high hopes for Chris Groom.

"Brown has been buoyed by the support he has already received from his new club, saying he wants to get fitter than he ever has to reward them."

I don't think fitness was his issue...

I had such high hopes for Chris Groom.

Evan Hewitt was the guy I thought could have been anything,,,,starved for opportunity with Carey there. I remember him sitting on the pine all day getting flogged by Richmond at the G and saying to my brother, these boys look hung over (carey was unshaven ...rare for him on game day) and did nothing. Hewitt came on and kicked 4 in the last quarter.

To top off Ned Guy's genius, Collingwood barely has any points after pick 16 now.

They either burn a pick taking McInnes, or go into deficit in next years first round if he gets bid on at say pick 18 :tearsofjoy:

Pure genius.

Bonar is on our list. Been poor but I'm backing him in.

Ahern a dud. Gone.

Both unwanted GWS players.

My position is not difficult to understand.

What. A. Man.

Pretty clear that he went out of his way to thank supporters/members multiple times. I imagine the complaints re trading Brown and Higgins were heard loud and clear, but they’ve gotta make the decisions that they think are best.

Also pretty clear that the fact we’ve kept pick 2, 11, 2021 First and Second was a big priority and win. So you can stop hypothesising about trading them.
