Nice. Good stats.
So it sounds more like its his decision making and footskills might be his issue?

I think what has really hampered him mostly is that he has been required to play so many different roles regularly with the swans that he has never really settled into a key defensive post. Regularly he seems to move from a defender to ruck to a forward depending on what the swans need at the time and to his detriment. Would be very keen to get him onboard if were able too and think he will quickly become a valuable member of our defensive unit as that tall intercepting and rebounding defender who is also decent one on one

We just need gun midfielders forget wasting time on anything else. Just put together the best midfield in the country and watch the flags roll in.

Hasn't exactly worked too well for Bulldogs. Best midfield in the comp with Bont, Macrae, Hunter, Libba, Dunkley, B.Smith.

Doesn't work if you don't have any tall defenders or forwards. Or, the only one you do have is always injured and so young (Naughton).

What the dogs have also shown is that you dont get better by taking other clubs cast offs.

You need to bring in genuine talent.

Aliir's the most sensible option to cover our lack of Key Defence depth, I've heard of, so far. Tarrant's too old. Current back 6 or 7 have done little wrong in 2020, so I don't see he's guaranteed best 22 in 2021. Maybe he sneaks into some of the back 7 rotations ahead of Burton (until Burton is properly match fit).

Longer term would still like us to go to draft as well. Richmond got a beauty with Balta at pick 25 (Knightmare rated him 6th best talent in his "power ratings". Also Gold Coast got Ballard at Pick 42 (power rating was 18). Time is right to invest a decent pick for the right KPD. If Knightmare can spot talent, I'm sure our recruiters can too! (although has anyone else noticed how badly we use our picks in range 30 to 50 over the years - almost all are flops).

Meanwhile Aliir might be a good fit.
Pasini in the rookie draft will be looked upon as superb drafting.

We are doing nothing this trade period Davies basically said today.
Oh well, the cliff is near.
Hopefully our kids continue to progress and not become stagnant like the youth that shot out of the blocks early and stopped previously under Ken.
This is 2014 all over again , trust the youth, trust Ken yadda yadda. 4 year deal incoming 🤮🤮🤮

If we can get bont and macrae into our side somehow..the flags will roll in.

General Manager – Football, Davies said it meant the club could afford to be quieter and plan to be busier next year.

“Our current level of draft capital would suggest that we won’t be massive players in either the draft or the trade period.

“We probably have had our eye on next year’s draft for a bit longer than we have this year’s. (philthy05 has mentioned this too)

Davies revealed the club would target a couple of players in the off-season but there was no specific “missing piece of the puzzle” despite the side falling short of making the Grand Final in 2020.

The crows having 3 players leaving each 1 is done separately isn't it. A M8 of mine reckons having the other 2 leave helps the crouch compo?

I’m really excited to hear they’re working hard on next years draft. There’s some real amazing talents there imo

Hopefully we trade into some picks for next year.

We’ve got enough points to match a very early jones bid, just trade out the early picks and match it with later picks.

Taj won’t require points, he’s barely likely to attract a bid at this stage.

Teams are going to cut out of this draft so early that super late picks will compress forward.

Match jones , late picks move up as other teams match bids, draft someone late, take taj if we want him.

We could do that without the freo pick. Hell I think we could almost move freo and pies pick for a 2021 2nd , 21 3rd and a 2020 3rd and still match points for jones with our bevy of picks.

That would give us ports 2nd, and three 3rds to match jones.

0 clearances in the last quarter said it all.

That's obviously shithouse, but our game is entirely based upon that against the good teams. We don't have the speed or quality of ball movement to rebound the ball back effectively off of lost clearances - unlike Richmond who has that as their Plan A, but in the last months of this year developed a capacity for clearance domination to go with it.

This makes sense. This draft cohort was already weaker than the last couple of years. Due to the affects of Covid it will be a little bit speculative, so it is but the worst draft to be quiet in. We will pick up Jones and Schofield and hooefully trade for a player or two, particularly a KPD!
In 2021 I would like to see Port debut the 2019 draftees and continue to develop Drew and Georgiades. Need to balance development with experience, so Port are to challenge for a flag in the next few years with Butters, Rozee, Duursma at the forefront.

Aliir would be a good get, hopefully we don't have to give up too much to get him.

26 years old, good 1v1 tall defender with all the right assets to fit into our backline. Can also swing forward and ruck if needed which would be nice to have as an emergency in case injuries come up or as a tactical switch during games.

Signing Tarrant would be an indicator that we are going all-in for the 2021 premiership. Signing Aliir would keep us set for a few more years yet and cover the retirements of McKenzie or Jonas nicely whilst Pasini develops. Glad the club has potentially identified a tall KPD as a need.

If we get Aliir and draft Jones with the idea that we are going to hit next year's draft and free agency hard, I'd be content with that.

Aliir Aliir could be a very astute pick up to fill in our defensive line for a few years. Statistically he averages more or similar in one percentres, meters gained, rebound 50s and intercept marks as the following key/intercepting defenders over their careers;

Darcy Moore (all above areas)
Harris Andrews (all bar one percenters)
Jacob Weitering (all bar one percenters)
Noah Balta (all bar meters gained)
Nathan Broad (all bar one percenters)
Oscar McDonald (all bar one percenters)
Jodarn Ridley (all bar meters gained)

Not saying he is as good as the above defenders at all, and those players he’s behind in one percenters on average is only about 1 per game, but he is statistically a very good pickup to fill a defensive position if we’re able to make it happen

Handy stats. What has to be mentioned though is the game style that he has been working in and the players around him.

Will be interesting to see what comes of this and how we play him if it pans out
