In the bigfooty phantom draft the problem with taking him is clear; we have now added 2xhbf to a list that doesn't really need them. Neither have given indications they can play other positions either.

Individually good selections, the question about whether our weaknesses, which are forward of centre, are workable.

I take your point and I am not going to dispute that there is a risk we would add 2xHBF, but I think I would be confident enough to say that Walker projects as being a effective wing (and played there a bit), whilst Chapman strikes me as a very versatile prospect who I would not write off playing anywhere (There were comments about big midfielders replacing Mundy and / or Fyfe and I think Chapman can been placed in that kind of space as having potential). I have also definitely added to the speed+disposal with arguably both of them as well so I feel I have adequately addressed that aspect.

I could have gone for a Henry (I suspect that would have been Chris25's solution) and that would have added a little bit more from a forward of centre perspective, but I don't feel like it is a solution to the issues in itself. Another option that I thought of that was relevant in this phantom was, having seen Reid and Cox fall down the list, throw some ammo from next year at the problem and try and move up the order a little, but I am still playing with guys that potentially are "???" as forwards for a variety of reasons.

Yeah Chapman is a shocking selection for us unless you are sure he can play midfield (forward would be better). Even if Hamling never plays again, he still isn't getting a game until we have a least one injury to AP, Logue or Cox.

I was disappointed Ysaye

I was picking both him and Walker on the basis I do see him being able to play other roles either being midfield or forward. I was keen on Jordan Clark in his year on a similar basis that there was positional flexibility, and I think that Chapman and Walker are the same.

Just out of interest, how far back was Carroll for you? Was he a consideration?

He was a consideration; had Chapman not been there I would have weighed him up against Henry (Henry has better skills, Carroll more of a midfielder) or anything that had dropped from earlier.

Can play but from the little that I’ve seen I’ll guess that he’ll be a very good WAFL player but not make it to/at AFL level.

Michael Mallard | West Perth
15/01/2002 | 200cm | 98kg

Mallard is a giant in the ruck and won more hitouts than any other player in this year’s WAFL Colts competition. He is a talented prospect with plenty of upside, able to mark well around the ground as one of the more impactful and mobile ruck options. Was an Under 16 and 18 state representative.

I think around pick 60. Big developing rucks with good hands are welcome. I dont want to see us put all into Darcy and Meek. Lobb should fix his kicking and stay forward.

A bit of a train wreck. Thankfully what our bag master does at draft time never remotely resembles what happens with the BF draft.

I'm torn, I really rate Chapman, looks like he could be elite but I really really dont want another defender.

IF we were to draft him, given all the info coming from the club, I would assume we have locked him in for a midfield or forward role. Then again, JL has consistently said he wants players playing where they did as juniors.

TLDR: Drafting Chapman = :)

Think of him as a winger, like a bigger Jordan Clark

Not sure he's the type of wing we need, doesnt have the pace. Could see him being a Mundy type midfielder, that I would obviously find acceptable

In the end, i have no idea so I'll leave it to the list management guys but I'd hope with some kind of plan in place to get a developing KPF on the list

Jordan Clark
182cm
2km - 6m 14s
20m sprint - 3.053
Agility - 8.421
Yo-Yo 21.1

Heath Chapman
193cm
2km - 6m 30s
Yo-Yo - 21.6
20m sprint - 3.03

I think they are quite similar athletically.

THanks, that really surprises me but over 3 seconds isnt that quick in AFL world, given Clarke just won the sprint, I assume he's better over longer distances but acceleration isnt that good

It's not "that quick" but we are talking essentially 3s for both players and the average for the fastest time for the last four years is only 0.13s faster than them.

If you are right about them being able to play other roles then what you have done is a work of genius. The kind of thing I dream our recruiters are capable of pulling off.

Taylor do I have this right.
By placing Banfield, Shultz and bewley onto the RL we are then able to take more picks into the draft. Picks we think we need for points to spend on our NGA people. In other words without moving all three onto the RL we wouldn't have made the trade with Adelaide.

Fremantle has completed a pick swap with Adelaide in an effort to protect their Next Generation Academy prospects heading into December’s AFL draft.
The Dockers have sent a future fourth round selection to the Crows in exchange for a third and fourth round selection this year.
Prospects Joel Western and Brandon Walker have been part of the club’s development program and while Freo hold priority, additional picks provide flexibility if a rival club attempts to select a youngster in the Dockers’ sights.

“Our trade with Adelaide essentially means we have secured a third and a fourth round selection in exchange for a future fourth round selection,” General manager of football Peter Bell said.

“The trade gives us further pick flexibility and point value should we decide to match any bid on our Next Generation Academy players.”
Fremantle forecast their off-season plan prior to this year’s trade period, choosing to continue to build through the draft rather than trading for senior talent.

18-year-old Walker is a classy ball user and a switch to half-back in round two by East Fremantle colts coach Adrian Ricciardello was the catalyst for his stunning form spike and grabbed the attention of AFL recruiters.
Walker is expected to draw the highest rival bid out of Fremantle’s NGA talent, but Western shouldn’t be far behind.
The Claremont speedster is one of the most exciting players in the WAFL colts competition when he’s up and running, with pace to burn and a long, penetrating kick.
The Dockers were forced to protect a highly touted NGA prospect at last year’s draft when Carlton bid for Claremont product Liam Henry at pick nine.
The Blues’ move on Henry, who played three games this season, meant the Dockers ended up with three-straight selections in the top 10, including Hayden Young and Caleb Serong.
This year's AFL Draft will be held as a virtual event on Wednesday 9 December.

The AFL relaxed that rule after the trade period, so whatever picks we hold we can take into the draft, as will all other clubs.

Depends how many of our NGA players we are actually interested in. Definitely gives us more options.

Im not sure that’s entirely true.

you need not use the pick. But I think you still need list space to potentially use them.

Can’t have 20 picks and 4 list spots.

may have 6 picks, 6 list spots and only utilize 3 picks.

My understanding is that you no longer need the list spot to hold the pick, for this season.

So now that we've declared our favourites, none of whom Fremantle will select as per usual form lets throw out a few more names:

Matt Allison - 194cm Key Forward/Utility (Calder Cannons)

Liam McMahon - 194cm Key Forward (Northern Knights)
