We'll get Sonsie. North will take the Goat.21) Freo - Johnson
22) North - Motlop
23) Hawks - Sonsie
24) Cats - Knevitt
25) Cats - McDonald
26) Butler/Howes/Bazzo/Goater/Taylor/Curtis/Clarke?
I reckon we're locked on Sonsie at 23.
The way I see it playing out:
Freo: Johnson
North: Motlop/Butler/Bazzo
Hawthorn: Sonsie
Geelong: Goater/Knevitt/Draper
Geelong: Conway/Butler/Above
Hawthorn: One of Butler/Draper/Goater/Knevitt/Taylor/Bazzo (BPA order in my opinion)available. I'd think we're pretty set for this draft to be a big W in my book.

Johnson to Freo, nothing surer.

I liked Howes a lot, but he hasn't got the track record Butler, Draper, Knevitt, and Taylor have while not being as high an upside prospect as Goater. It will surely play out that way for us (with Howes also an option for us).
Another midfielder for North? Surely they are looking at Butler or Motlop. Unless they think the goat will stay a HBF/HFF.

Either way I am ecstatic at how this has turned out. I had to settle for Judson Clarke in my phantom, now we're getting shots at player I rate around 13-20 in Butler, Sonsie, Draper and Goater.
It all depends on whether Hawthorn was seriously looking at Jonson at pick 7 as rumoured. If you still value him highly then to get him it would require 23 and 26 to get pick 21 from us (Fremantle). Unlikely unless you thought Johnson was a top 8 pick and you nearly drafted him ahead of Ward.It will surely play out that way for us (with Howes also an option for us).
They have stuffed Freo around no end and always release details of private conversations involving their players. They also seem to think every player of theirs should be traded if they request it even when there is no decent trade available to a team to make tat happen.Had a look on their website, are we really the only club that doesn’t have a single player managed by them?
Can’t recall what they’ve done to make a bad name for themselves off the top of my head but did find that interesting.

Day-DGB-Ward-Sonsie-Butler/Draper/Goater as a spine for the future is pretty damn good. Day and Ward are lifers, and while I am iffy on taking two inconsistent prospects so close together the payoff if Goater can learn to kick half-decent (get him in the gym with Mitch and see I say), Sonsie figures out how to contribute when he isn't winning his own ball, Butler becomes Winguard 2 or Draper adds some muscle and becomes a genuine midfielder we have a premiership-winning group there. Tack on whoever we get next year while the younguns develop and I am very optimistic in our future. My god, this is a dream come true, a home-run draft no matter what at this point.Same. So many options for us now at 23 and 26.
Sonsie at 23 is a dream. He will round out the young midfield group. Then we will be able to use 26 on a variety of different kinds of players.
Thank you GWS, Richmond, Sydney and Brisbane for throwing curveballs.
He's likely interviewed in a way that makes teams wary he might be a rental for three years before flying back home. Mitch might know him from his time in WA, but I don't think he is an option for most Vic clubs at this point.I'm wondering if maybe Freo aren't as keen on Johnson as we might think. Surely if they were they would have traded into the last few picks of the first round to snag him given so many were waiting for him to be picked at any point since our first. But maybe they tried and no one was willing to deal.

How does that make sense? Both are still on the board and our current hand gives us a reasonable shot at both. Doing this deal guarantees us one of them but pretty much rules out the other. There's so many other great options still available that even if both are taken before our current next pick we're likely still going to get two great options.Interesting trade hypothesized on the North board. Our picks 23 + 26 for 22 + 34.
If rumors are to be believe and we rate Johnson and Sonsie as top 15, this makes sense.

His clearance and stoppage work is a big strength of his, I think he is underrated as a midfielder. With our midfield group, he probably plays a Winguard role swapping off the forward flanks/pockets, but his fitness can be shocking sometimes, and it's those points in games where he really drags a team down. Not being the team centrepiece and being able to rest in the forward line should do him wonders, but I'd still be worried that he will get gassed and be a liability late in the game.I think Sonsie would play off a HFF and move up around the ball. Probably competing with S. Mitchell and Moore for a role in the side.
IMO he wouldn't have an issue getting the pill playing on the outside with all our ball winners. Consistency is something that can be worked on and improved upon, it's his quality kicking skills and dual-sidedness the we'd be drafting him for.
Also depends on where goater, butler, sonsie etc were on our board relative to Johnson. If we rated two of those top 15, there is no way we trade 23 and 26 to grab one player. It all depends on whether Hawthorn was seriously looking at Jonson at pick 7 as rumoured.
