Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

Well in the sense that if we use 2 1sts this year or 1 this year or 1 next year ultimately it's using 2 firsts over a 2 year period is what I meant.

No one knows what draft will end up being better etc.

Sorry if I worded it poorly.
Clubs seem to have a fair idea about which drafts are better than others. At least in the same year as the draft. Whether or not they can accurately forecast the quality one year out is another question, I guess.

Interesting to watch this unfold. ATM, there is no way Daicos goes at 2. Pies will do a Sydney a la McDonald/Campbell.
They don’t have a first. They can’t.

Why do we need a pick there?

To get some real talent in a block close together like we did in

2004 with 2,5,7,21,26.
2005 with 3,6,14,18,22

These two years really set us up for a run of success.

At the moment we have 2,20,21,55,68 or there abouts.

So hopefully we can get some more second round picks and another first so we don’t need to use 55 and 68 and can maybe trade them to a club who needs points next year or this year or trade them for another 2nd or 3rd for next year.

I get where you are coming from. But it really is contingent on your drafting and a bit of luck. I remember Pendlebury came from 'nowhere' to the pies at pick 5 in 05. Was seen as a real project and a smoky from all the media reports etc. We take Ellis at 3 who was the consensus outside mid w/ class in that year. The rest is history.

While having more picks would be great. I am not huge into over leveraging future draft assets or good players just to improve our draft hand. The bombers only got a good draft hand because their senior players didn't want to be there. That is still a club and culture going nowhere fast.

I think it’s a good call. It’d be nice to have 4 or 5 in the top 30 this year. I’d be happy to trade one of Mitchell/JOM/Worpel/Shiels for something in the 10-25 range. Also like to trade next years first for a top 10 this year.

Think that would really help lay a solid foundation, building on last years haul.

Watching today makes me so undecided on whether we take the best kick mid or the best key Fwd. I guess we’re not going anywhere until we get a key Fwd so I say just bite the bullet and take a take that Van Rooyen lad from the West.

He’s predicted to go in the first round. Davo-27 where do you rate him?

He has kicked one goal all year.

people can’t stand tob but he is our stand out kpf this year and probably a good shot to win our goal kicking award if he plays all of the remaining games 😂

Lewis has to come back and see if we can get something going with him in the side. Maybe give jeka a try. Kosi isn’t ready for senior footy. Take the pressure off him and let him build confidence in the vfl.

Now, I didn't say Ceglar was competent - let alone good. Just that he (at least) leads.

I'm a TO'B fan, more for his effort that his outcomes - but at least he's usually moving & contests from Goal Square to the Wing.

Sinn at 7?? Value.

Most have Draper top 10.

Sinn has been a bit wayward with disposal this year, has some really good abilities which i really like, but has been a bit lazy with disposal in defence and midfield, i think his range could be between 4-9, not sure if he breaks into the top 3 as an outside mid who plays like Isaac Smith pros and cons without Smiths top end disposal, just my opinion from seeing him a few times.

Arlo Draper was disappointing in the SANFL all-stars game last year and missed being selected for the AFL Academy, so top 10 is a bit high imo, but he has had some good sanfl u18 form, not that the sanfl u18 comp is that great to compare to the nab league imo.

AFL Academy
Braden Andrews (Vic Metro/Oakleigh Chargers)
Sam Banks (Tasmania/Clarence)
Rhett Bazzo (Western Australia/Swan Districts)
Jase Burgoyne (South Australia/Woodville West Torrens)

i just wanted to point out that this is an early list and i have still yet to see a bunch of interstaters and some vic kids play, so its a little incomplete, but its based on the work i have done watching a lot of games so far, so if theres a handful not mentioned its because i have yet to see them play enough games to know where they stand in the draft pool right now.

This kid is one to watch. Exactly the type that we need IMO.

Round 2 Player of the Week, Connor Macdonald returned a dream performance in the Stingrays’ loss to Greater Western Victoria (GWV); amassing 33 disposals, 10 marks, 10 inside 50s, and laying 12 tackles. A monster effort. It saw the 184cm midfielder rise up draft boards, especially having backed up a strong Round 1 showing.

His speed away from congestion is complemented well by a desire to work hard, as Macdonald could be seen accumulating possessions in all areas of the ground and lifting when his side needed it. Having played on a wing and up forward, Macdonald also has the ability to kick goals and really hurt the opposition with his balanced game.

In the 2021 season, Macdonald is averaging 28.5 disposals, 7.0 marks, 6.5 inside 50s, 7.5 tackles and has booted 2.4, beginning the year in great form. He has grown at least five centimetres from his Under 16s year, where he managed to play three games, averaging 7.3 disposals, 1.0 marks, 1.7 inside 50s and 1.3 tackles per game in 2019.

Another 25 disposals this week. 1 goal 1. 6 inside 50’s and 3 tackles.

Would have to be shooting up the rankings soon, although it’s ok if he stays rated about 23-25. 😂

Assuming we meet the criteria. Would we be entitled to a consession draft pick from the AFL? If you had 5 or less wins in two consecutive years, you could apply to the AFL for an extra first round pick at the end of round one. Does this still exisit?

Won’t happen.
