Dumont looks solid to me? Not everyone can be eliteAccording to mutual friends, Dumont has been telling everyone that he will be back in SA at the end of the year. I'm happy for him to be Port's next missing piece.

Yeah - but they aren't hard and fast rules are they. Bottom two years in a row would be a good argument for a PP ... ESPECIALLY if we lose Crouch to RFA. Losing our best two mids in consecutive years that we finish on the bottom? PP all day! We're not getting a PP. We've already won 5 games this year. Even in the bad old days, when Melbourne was tanking for PPs, the rule was that you only received a PP if you had less than 17 premiership points.
There's no hard & fast rule any more... but there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that we're getting a PP this year.Yeah - but they aren't hard and fast rules are they. They'll just upgrade our compo pick from after our 2nd pick to end of first round and call it a day. We would be making out like bandits if they gave us a pick after our first if My.Crouch left imagine going into the draft with pick 4 and 5There's no hard & fast rule any more... but there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that we're getting a PP this year.
If we lose Crouch, we get a FA compensation pick. We won't get a FA compo pick AND a PP.
There is 0% chance of us getting a PP this year. Maybe even less than that.

we already have enough “solid” types in sloane, keays, laird etc..Dumont looks solid to me? Not everyone can be elite![]()
yep..and since they had the perfect opportunity to do this last year when we actually finished bottom and instead gave us band 3..i'll have a wager with you for a bottle of Penfolds RWT that says they won't upgrade our possible compo pick should Matt leave from anything to band 1 unless he is offered a contract outright that would qualify for band 1They'll just upgrade our compo pick from after our 2nd pick to end of first round and call it a day. No, just no. You cannot say that getting wooden spoons will lead to premierships, but once you have 'won' a wooden spoon, it is hung around your neck forever as a club. If we finish bottom 3 which may be more on the cards now, we will still get a very good mid and anyway, who is to say Horne WILL be better than a number of other kids once they hit AFL systems. Sure he has been fantastic so far, but many of the vic kids have missed alot of footy and some even now are starting to show what they can do - and with a top 3 pick we are guaranteed to get one of them
Thanks for that
That means the club is struggling to pay the salary cap, even though it dropped by $3m.
Not that their salary cap is full
He was highlighting their financial struggles
I suppose the point I was trying to make is that just by getting Horne, it is no guarantee that we will win a premiership. Also, how do we know Horne will be better than any of the other top rated mids who are only now starting to get the chance to show how good they are. I would rather not try to get a spoon just on the chance Horne MIGHT be better than other mids in the top 5. Personally I hate..HATE our club being a wooden spooner and that stigma stays forever. Can’t say I care about another spoon.
What matters is getting out of the quagmire with the best opportunities for success, not crawling out and staying only 2 feet ahead of the mess
Dumont is actually a very solid footballer, and would make Port better.According to mutual friends, Dumont has been telling everyone that he will be back in SA at the end of the year. I'm happy for him to be Port's next missing piece.

"Early draft picks are no guarantee of success. We should try our best to win every game because that's how you build a successful culture"
History has proven that to be disastrously wrong.
In fact, that way of thinking is how we actually did end up with a wooden spoon.
Nope, the time to strike is when he's out of contract and he wants to only go to the Crows....and then he wants to show a whole lot more than he has thus far....we do not not need cameo performers that go missing for big stretches.
Steady on soldier..we are likely to end up with a top 3 pick - last time I looked that was considered an early draft pick. I don't want a spoon just because Horne is there. Can you chrystal ball it and tell me he will be better than Sonsie, Sinn, Chesser, Hobbs, Roberts etc in 3 years time? because if you can and are 1000% sure then sure. Some people on this board have been posting variants of this theme for as long as I've been on here.

Bit like playing a guy 188cm as your 2nd tall defender so he cant interceptThe best way of going about it is to try and win every game.
But also to tank at selection by picking guys like Mackay for every game, not picking enough tall defenders and playing injured players as the sub.
That way you aren't making game day decisions to lose and everyone is putting in their best, but you cripple the team a little bit before hand so it's a harder task
I think you’ll find Noble is a big fan of Crouch, he’s not going to get his 5 year deal with usNo logical reason for NM and Adel to trade for M Crouch.
They offer him peanuts and we match and then no trade.
NM go after big names without success then over pay guys like Polec so we may get lucky.
He might like Noble.
Our best hope would be if GC finished last.
Open up the check book for Rankine, Lukosius, Hollands and Horne and if none return at least their salary cap is completely screwed
Truthfully I think one of the best guys GC could recruit is Keays. The best Queenslander playing outside of Qld.
Next years 1st + Keays and whatever else it takes for pick 1 or 2.
Wont happen but they need to stop recruiting outside guys like Murdoch, Atkins, Ellis.
Given what certain players at clubs have signed in recent weeks, it appears to be a trendLaird until 2026 is a cracker. What are those freaks smoking to think that was remotely necessary?
But I also don't think it'll ever be band 1? in fact we'll be lucky to get band 2 so someone else can take you up on that betyep..and since they had the perfect opportunity to do this last year when we actually finished bottom and instead gave us band 3..i'll have a wager with you for a bottle of Penfolds RWT that says they won't upgrade our possible compo pick should Matt leave from anything to band 1 unless he is offered a contract outright that would qualify for band 1
Maybe i misread but i thought you mentioned a pick after our 1st which i took as band 1 but i'll stand corrected if i misreadBut I also don't think it'll ever be band 1? in fact we'll be lucky to get band 2 so someone else can take you up on that bet
i’m not sure your last line is true... he’s the best player at this point.. dont know if its by a “long way”.imagine if horne told north he wants to stay in SA. I guarantee they would b*tch to the afl and the afl would now start calling it draft tampering. its ok if vic kids do it though. it would be a problem because horne is clearly the best player in the draft by a long way.
