watching on the couch i am super super dirty on Gags trading out Hind for essentially nothing. just beggars belief.

it's every bit as bad as Ratts getting belted by 100 points.

Go back 12 months & Hind was being bagged constantly by posters on here.

The fact is that he wasn’t worth anymore than a 4th rounder. He’s playing well and would be handy right now (i was a fan & didn’t want to lose him) but lets not pretend he’d be making much of a difference now.

Didn't he want to go and got a bigger, longer deal?
Would not have made sense to throw a big contract at him to stay considering he wasn't a guaranteed best 22 at the time.
Don't see how else this could have logically worked out?
He didn’t want a big money contract, wanted 2 years we offered one year. We wouldn’t have played him in the right position anyhow. Battle will be the next player to make us look silly when he is played as a KPF at his next club

You know if the tables were turned that Dildo would have ended up with a second round pick for him. Pretty shit that we didn't get him in his natural position as well. I was really excited when we got him because I'd watched VFL on tv and seen him running off half back. I remember commenting on here that he looked like cartoon character his legs were going so fast. To not utilise that was insane. Watching other players highlight videos of the year I was surprised by how many plays he was involved in. For the same reason we don't get anything out of Hill we wasted him, Savage and Hill. Mainly because Ratts wants long controlled kicked out of the backline not run and carry.

I'm all for Ratts having his own game plan that works for us but after we were worked out last year it's a failed plan that needs replacing. It doesn't work with faster ball movement that most other sides are using now and we can't even counter attack off it. It looks like his plan is to just keep training it until the day that King can kick 10 goals from 10 marks. Hopefully we have some players with confidence left by that time.

People on here are morons to be fair our list managers should be smarter than us. Most complaint was that he wasn't getting goals ignoring what else he'd done. Butler was getting his goals last year and Lonie was playing good footy so he was playing in and out of the side. Good list management is planning for the future or developing better players for the longer term. He was dropped for guys like Kent and Marsh who are delisted or close to delisted.

I'd give up Mowy, apparently it was good management and shouldn't be mentioned. Ratts and Gags gloss has worn off pretty quickly.

What did he do last year to warrant getting more than 1 year from us?
Doing plenty this year to warrant a 2 year contract

About spotting talent and getting the best out of that talent, maybe play them in the right position

So who should we have dropped from our backline that was consistently performing well last year?

They were not performing so well we couldn't have given him a go there at some stage.

Ben Long certainly wasn't setting the world on fire.

The year previous he was never given a go either and there were certainly spots available then.

Long. Probably wouldn't have played under Ratts anyway. Just a waste of a pick because he wasn't what Ratts wants and similar to the way Savage played as a running half back. It's hard not to think we have done some really poor last management in bringing in guys like him and Parker who were not really playing roles we wanted and they were already mature. Basically gave up the chase to get a guy like Paton to waste development time and resources for something we didn't't want. That's why we need an actual plan for drafting and trades.

LOL i was saying he'd be better on the wing than Hill. He was winning more contested ball.

Unfortunately everyone doesnt have your time machine to give someone a contract based off their form 12 months later.

He was always a running HBF, makes you laugh some will never admit we get things wrong
It is almost as if it was a great list management move by Essendon to get someone who was was far down the pecking order at another club.

We did the expect same thing identifying players who for some reason weren't best 22 at their original clubs and have been able to find them a consistent spot in our best 22 - Steele having to play a lot of forward at GWS because they had other midfielders they rated as better than him, Membrey who just couldn't get a game at Sydney, Howard who Port were adamant was only going to play forward despite him being a defender, Butler pushed out of Richmond then comes to us having a AA year, Jones having to play half back/wing at Sydney then coming to us and playing his best football on the inside.

We'e benefited from that list management move more than we have lost out in recent years.

Long was our best interceptor last year so was warranting his selection. He has dropped off significantly this year but unfortunately, you can't base selection in 2020 based off what is happening in 2021.

So you're saying list managers shouldn't be expected to spot talent and potential in players ?

No time machine actually said last year we shouldn't let him go, just play him in the right position

I'm so sick of the attitude that wants to paper over an area where the club clearly got it wrong.

In the right position he's playing great footy... not good footy... great footy.

The fact is we'd be better off with him in our side.

We screwed that up.

Not sure why that's so hard to admit.

That’s the kindest thing you’ve ever said to me Gringo.
