The way we are going we’ll possibly have $2 mill spare. I do t think Steele is getting that much of a pay rise.

I Have done a rough guess as to what our salary cap looks like at the moment, we do have some room to work with, with over 1.5m in space, after re-signing all of Dunstan, Billings, Ross. The trouble is, after next year, we will run into a bit of a squeeze with Long, Paton, Butler, Hannebery, McKenzie, Bytel, Steele, Webster, Battle, Allison, Marshall, Byrnes and Highmore all coming out of contract. Some of those guys will be gone, but quite a few in that group would be expecting some pay increases.

We wont have a first this or next year if we trade.

Well we’d better not stuff it up then. That’s a huge price.
Thats all your eggs in one basket stuff.

He has been playing like that all season. I've been saying that him and Billings missing we would not notice them. One was out last night and the other wasn't too crach hot.

Get whatever we can for both and move them on. Save ourselves a roughly 800k for both and use the picks to move up the ladder or package it up to get something decent.
I suppose at some point the club has to make a decision on those guys. Both are both good foot soldiers and played well over the years. Not line breakers though. I could see the club offering one/two year contracts. Or trade another player in with the speed of Jones or a good backman would ease the pain of moving them on.

Oh we getting to the part of the year where people come in with cryptic trade 'rumours'? The best part about them is if any journalists start reporting on them

They're not worth much compensation wise...the club - despite what we think (myself included)- seem eager to keep them, and I've read that both players want to stay. They have their faults but both are serviceable guys. If they don't demand idiotic money for their mediocre performances (Billings) or bog standard skills (Ross) it may be better for the club to hang onto them for another 2-3years rather than feck them off. We have enough ring ins from other clubs, and we can't go all out on kids without some of the old guard to turn to as a base and reference point on what it means to be a Saints player. They're the one's with B&F's (Ross) and reputation (such as it is, with Billings)

I agree. Seriously by the way these players are talked about on the board and by our supporters, they’re the two most useless duds to ever grace a footy field. And thats from our perspective. Other supporters don’t respect our team’s depth so they seem even worse as prospects.

Idk who were selling these players to that they’re looked at as more than steak knives. They just can’t possibly be attractive trades to any other teams if we’re dying to dump them.

Its more like people throwing darts hoping one will hit the board so they will be forever known as an ITK

My understanding of the trade already organised for next year are as follows

Ben King for this years first, next years first and Luke Dunstan.

Jack Billings to Hawthorn for start of second round compo.

Josh Battle for a late 2nd round and a fourth to North Melb

Long to Carlton for a 3rd rounder.

Leaves us going to the draft with Pick 21 (Billings) then 2 x 3rd rounders, 3 x fourth rounders to use on Mitchito and Windy and a couple of new SA late pick gems.

Move on!!!

I'd do all of that

No idea if any truth to this

But had a bad feeling for a while a Battle trade might be on the cards.

Not happy if that's the case. Take a potentially really good player, play him out of position then trade him for not a lot.

I guess we'll see what happens

No truth at all but then again its plausible enough to actually be true.

That's the beauty of the trade thread - you can have no f***ing idea but appear to be an ITK.

I'd accepted all those except Battle.

Long can go, gladly. The fact we took him one pick ahead of Parfitt angers me a lot.

Sydney are understood to be facing a salary cap dilemma ahead of the 2022 season, with a number of star players currently placed in contract situations that could prove to be burdensome.

According to Fox Footy's Tom Morris, the Swans and gun midfielder Luke Parker are currently at a negotiations crossroads as the Sydney star remains unsigned for next season.

The ongoing standoff could be a result of the Swans' tight salary space, as they also share their focus with out-of-contract trio George Hewett, Jordan Dawson and Sam Reid.

Rival clubs are set to table long-term deals to Dawson that would be well north of what the Swans are able to offer, while midfielder Ollie Florent is also reportedly in the sights of rival clubs, namely Victorian sides, according to Morris.

Given we may lose Dunstan, Ross and Billings, and may never get Hanners back, I'd think pulling Parker out of the Swans for a couple of serviceable years would be a good move.

Dawson i love also. We took Brandon White ahead of him that draft.

Florent would suit us perfectly.

I'd take Dawson and Parker off them Florrent is a GOP with scope to improve a lot. Looked good as a junior as a mid but seems to play quite outside at the Swans. Was he Gresh's draft?
