Jeez this place is already counting Sherman as a lock for the rest of days. Talk about optimistic...

I reckon Leo's future is higher up the ground though. Just needs to put on some more weight.

Sharman looks a very likely type. 2 games in and he's already looking better than most of our forwards.

From Foxsports:
In other trade news, Port Adelaide expressed a preliminary interest in Jack Billings recently.

Billings is a free agent and though the Saints have put a multi-year deal to him, the left-footer is yet to commit to the club that drafted him in 2013.

Foxfooty.com.au spoke to two list chiefs at rival clubs about Billings. Both were adamant the Saints are trying to push the former No.3 draft pick out by offering him a reduced contract.

If he leaves, St Kilda would almost certainly gain a third-round pick back via the AFL’s compensation scheme.“

Third round pick? Find that hard to believe Tom Morris.

****s sake. Started at lets lose him for a high first round pick now we're at letting him walk for a third rounder. That will go down well.

If we were trying to push him out we just wouldn’t offer a contract. Like we did with Bruce, like Adelaide did with crouch.

There are two reasons a player can want to leave.
1) Disgruntled/lack of opportunity.
2) Money and or longer contract.

I think most people put Billings clearly in (2).

IF - he gets good money or contract THEN the compensation system recognises that .
It is not based on "what some hack journalist RECKONS ".

Would be a disaster to let him leave for a 3rd round pick.

Those rival list managers should be aware that no matter if he stays or goes, he will be on a reduced contract because his current one is particularly large.

Surely we'd just match their offer and force a trade. Better to push Port for a second rounder than lose him for a third.

I'd be disappointed if we didnt match in that scenario. Even if it was 2nd round compensation, we would be looking at pick 31 for him (3 expected Academy picks and GC priority pick push it out) which still feels like under for the quality of player he is when fit. If he does leave, I'd be very surprised if he left Victoria.

But the ITK work right now is he wants to stay and that something will get worked out. And it seems like no other club is going to be offering him anymore than we are anyway. Hopefully it gets done soon!

They said St.Kilda would receive a 2nd Rd pick for the former Pick3

So Tom Morris reckons Billings is leaving the Saints to take up a contract that only places in the Top 70% of all player contracts.

Jeez - and they actually get paid to write this crap. At least the bulls*** we write doesn't anybody a cent

The bands are as follows:

- Top five per cent = first-round pick

- Top 15 per cent = end-of-first-round pick

- Top 30 per cent = second-round pick

- Top 50 per cent = end-of-second-round pick

- Top 70 per cent = third-round pick

- Below that = no pick

The compensation is based on :
Where the player was originally picked. 3 = high.
The age of the player = the minimum for free agents = high.
The total contract package offered, = fairly good or he wouldn't leave.

Isn't there something to do with where that player sat in the club salary hierachey? So coming off a big contract is worth something?
