I would be happy with a pick between 20 - 30
The club thinks the same or even less
Has never been AA has never really done well in our B&F
No good just holding on to him because of what we paid for him
If the club thinks moving him on improves our list so be it

Really? Sounds to me like another to add to the ever increasing list of blokes we've let go for their lowest possible value.

Confirmed ?

Foxfooty.com.au spoke to two list chiefs at rival clubs about Billings. Both were adamant the Saints are trying to push the former No.3 draft pick out by offering him a reduced contract.

If he leaves, St Kilda would almost certainly gain a second-round pick back via the AFL’s compensation scheme.

Billings is out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring strain.

ultimately, that isn't the club trying to push him out. He simply isn't worth the contract he's on now, so to offer him a reduced contract makes sense.

Billings signed his last contract which I understand was pretty good considering his true value -

AFL 2019: Jack Billings refusing to chat with rival clubs in best sign yet he wants to stay at St Kilda

The in-form Billings is averaging 29 disposals per game in 2019 and the Herald Sun has reported he is set to earn upwards of $800,000 per year on his new deal. If his form continues, this figure could even push to $900,000 — a number feasible thanks to St Kilda’s spacious salary cap position and Billings hot form.

Sources in club land also maintain $800,000 will be paid to at least five players from each club as early as next year, given the natural rise the salary cap. If Billings is considered one of the stars of the Saints and is still yet to enter the prime of his career, he stands to be paid accordingly.

It’s believed a long-term contract is doubtful at this stage and the ex-Oakleigh Charger is more likely to pen a two-season extension which would take him to free agency, although that may not eventuate for months.

Champion Data ranks Billings second for disposals among wingmen this year and rates him elite for uncontested possessions and above average for score involvements.

His improvement has coincided with the club’s dramatic upturn in form. Following a horrid 2018 season in which Billings spent more time forward, he has played almost exclusively as a winger this year.

- so if he is getting 800k or even 700k you can see why he has been offered a far lower contract , no way is he worth 800k

For all the sh*t that Brad Hill has copped this year, can we take some time to appreciate the last 2 months. Has had an incredible run of form, that highlights why we recruited him. If he plays like that for a whole season, suddenly is in the 40 man AA squad conversation.

He has improved out of sight however we got him to play as a wingmen to link up to the forward not as a 900k halfback flanker, he only was moved to the back line to get more of the ball - don't get me wrong he is doing a good job but we need him to do the role we got him for which he was elite at - at the moment his stats are on par with Saad of Carlton and Nick Hind is better than all of them.
Which sad because our reject is playing better than our highest paid player.

Quality post. Its very easy to make players the villain when it’s obvious their form is off, but when they are doing their role it’s just as easy to forget to commend them. I reckon we’ll see a very adaptive Saints next year with some new creativity and ideas, and I expect Hill will be a piece of the puzzle alongside some new youth and continued development.

His form has been much better these past 2 months, and although it's not his fault we paid overs at the trade table for him, it's on the club to recognise that only players who can do it for the majority of the season deserve the kind of money he is on.

I agree, I think next year we will see him start on the wing, especially now that we have the options of Connolly, Sinclair, highmore, coffield and even Webster to play that rebounding HBF role. I personally would like to see him kicking inside 50 more often, as we still lack that good F50 entry. I can already imagine Hill running on the wing and hitting up King on the lead, would make for some very good football.

Now Steele has freed up some time over the preseason not needing to train with Josh, maybe he can do some laps with Clark and Coff
Both those guys need some serious work in their legs, hope they can train their guts out and be good reliable players. A good summer should see them cherry ripe. Can see Coff around the half back line hopefully with sticky fingers. Not sure where Clark will fit in, possibly the wing.

I understand, and do agree that 800k should be spent on elite players. when we recruited him that’s what he was, and had shown that for multiple years. Yes he has had a rough start with the saints but can you imagine the pressure he was under? Especially early in the year with a disappointing year last year and people saying that he had to perform because of the longer quarters. Then suddenly to having a bad month, and having everybody slam him. We have all had bad days at work, even maybe a bad month or so. The difference is that we don’t come home at night and hear about it on the news, or we don’t hear about it on the radio when driving to work. One can only imagine what kind of toll that would have taken, and would have only made the pressure to perform even worse. Especially after he was racially abused and had his partner being abused as well. I think it’s no coincidence that he has started to play his best footy after he quit social media, and stopped checking the news, I remember an article about it and he said that it made him feel trapped and that wherever he went he had people asking him, or after games messaging him about how sh*t he was and how he didn’t deserve the money, and he could never get away from it, and by letting go of social media it made him feel free and able to play good football again.

Isnt now the time to be doing that? Most of the other guys are already in the team and in the backline. Sinclair is the rebounder and IMO playing better football than Hill.

I don’t propose to know anything about it, but I wonder if he has a slight injury, that is maybe preventing him from playing a full game on the wing. He seems to have his calf heavily strapped each game, and have seen the physio’s run out to him to check on him in the last few games. HBF is a far easier position to play than wing, so might be helping him, and maybe Ratts knows that he is having a good 2 months and wants to keep that confidence up going in to next year. That and the mighty D-Mac has become irreplaceable on the wing.
