He was one of our best performed players in the first half of the season. His injuries in the second half of the year have really clouded peoples memories.
So how does his injuries this year explain him going missing in the second half of last year and finals?

this isn’t a small sample. He just isn’t a consistent top level performer.

Its a bit like Jaws , the first one was great then it just got worse and worse as the years went by

This movie franchise is proving to be detrimental to our health Captain [emoji51]

You do realise that after Webster that we are light in for lockdown smalls.

I can’t imagine Paton being in round 1s best 22. So next up would be a fit gears.
What small forward have torched us this season??

Wilkie/Highmore can play small or tall and Webster is there

If anything our backline has exceeded expectations considering we played 1 Tall defender short for the whole season.

No wasnt me, but my point was to give him a few more games because 3 or 4 in 3 months is not many although he did have a run of of 9 earlier in the year and went ok. Cant see why they cant drop Kent and give Bytel a run in the forward line for the last game. Slower Tassie track might suit him.
He was just Ok earlies in the year, bt that was at the time we were terribly inconsistant and hardly had a ruckman.

We are a hiding to nothing this week, can't make finals, possibly top 22 mids not there next year, coach not fighting for his job. Why not give Bytel another game?

Will be pretty dissappointed if he doesn't get a gig on Thursday.

Neither is paying Billings to stick around and performing like the 18th bloke.

ryder
Sinclair
Marshall
Jones
Steele
King
Membrey
Howard
Hill
Crouch
Wilkie
Higgins
Dunstan
Byrnes
Highmore
Butler

all outperformed him this year and some of these guys had limitedpre seasons and injuries too.

that doesn’t include Gresham Clark Coffield - who I think are all better.

The club have done exactly the right thing with their offer. You and Billings seem to overrate his worth.
You can only say that because he was injured and some still didn’t, i‘d say most of that list didn’t.

Its an opinion game but please you’ve been at the front of the mob wanting him gone since day one, imo it’s clouding your judgement.

Exactly

Also our midfield have had their pants pulled down in a number of times over the last 4 or 5 weeks and we have not seen a single change in that area.

We were never going to play finals since that loss to the crows.

Terrible coaching not to have him in the side for development since he hasn't been injured.

Close the doors if Gears is our first drop small defender or 23rd player next March…

We need to develop the next tier not keep defaulting to average 33 year olds.

We alrady have - Wilkie, Long, McKenzie, Sinclair, Hill playing regularly in defence before Paton comes back.

Firstly, looking at my ****ing avatar. Front and centre. JB.

Secondly, Because potential is the worst word in football.

so judging Billings on his last 2 years of his big fat deal and he hasn’t performed anywhere near acceptable.

the club has offered him a deal relevant to his output which would be around a similar level to those you think he has outperformed and HE HASN’T SIGNED.

make more excuses for him if you want. But again,he went missing late last year. It isn’t a once off. It isn’t because of injuries. It just is Billings. We have had 8 years of this.

We have the 10 year player in that position. He is injured.
Geary would be a stop gap and third in line for that role when all are fully fit.

Well I thought it was a waste of time and list spot THIS year which proved correct, so we’re going to repeat the same mistake, fantastic.

So we need to improve the list so there is more quality in our top 10 players. That's not achieved by removing them for unders and bringing in late picks/DFA's to replace them.

If we can get into the position of Billings being the 15th best player on our list, we are going to be in a bloody great spot moving forward. What's not good is letting Billings walk, getting an average pick then someone like Dean Kent needing to stay around and being best 22 because it's either him or a kid who is not ready to play.

Billings should be on about $350k at StKilda. That reflects his output. Sign the deal or leave.
geary should be just gone. Last year was a year too long already

I’m judging him on output not potential, he was down in the two finals where they put some work into one of our important players. Other than that go back and look at his production year by year game by game if you like. What you find is billings is a very good player at worst week in week out. What he produced In 2019 gets you big dollars in a lousy side, let’s also remember he’s 25 which should be his prime because that’s what we’re trading away.

Anyway it’s taking on longer v hickey proportions we’ll never agree and I’ll have to call in my second p66 if I ever want to get anything done.

This place is going to explode before the trade period even begins at this rate.
We're going to delist Geary, who will then be picked up by Essendon as a DFA, and who will then star in their backline as recruit of 2022 along with recruit of 2021 Nicholas Hind, before the Saints realise they made a big mistake and trade him back in for their 1st pick in the 2022 Draft and simultaneously say sorry to Ben King and advise him he will need to stay on the Gold Coast for a few more years.

But at least we'll have Gears back 👍🏻

Geary been a great little player for us but last year he showed he lost the pace required , his time is up - but by the looks no one willing to tell him.
It's time to play the kids we have.

"His departure from the Saints will enhance Hunter's chances of a new deal with Ryder expected to soon sign an extension for 2022."
If Hunter is on our list next year we need to call the cops

"Co-captain Jarryn Geary is closing in on a fresh one-year deal."

Love gears but… it's time to move on, make him a coach if we need his leadership around the club.
I'd have him for next year tbh
