What's a parmi? Had to look it up

Parmi
A fun-loving girl who loves playin sports, especially tennis and badminton. She is kind and sweet. She also loves spending quality time with friends and family. She loves to eat, especially tropical fruits such as coconuts. She is known for being very energetic and outgoing.
She’s so funny, like a Parmi

Yep , that's why WA people get pissed off in Victoria when they ask for the price of a Parmi.

Wait really? Disgraceful to not have flake in a fish and chip shop

I used to feel this way until I found out it's a very bad idea to eat apex predators en masse.

Since then I haven't eaten flake.

(Nor have I indulged in bear, eagle, lion or tiger too- as difficult as that has been as I do have a sweet tooth for bear claw)

I’ve given up listening to trade radio. Earlier this morning they were discussing Alex Rance joining the Bombers as an assistant coach and one of the nuffies suggested that they should put him on the list so that he can play a few games. It’s interesting how the Saints have been widely criticised for signing James Frawley, yet the idea of signing a bloke who’s been out of the system for years is a good idea? Just seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding the Saints at the moment.

I haven't eaten Bear meat since 2017.

Stay strong brother.

Especially with the summer bbq season approaching- temptation will be everywhere.

I can recommend a good place in Brasov if you want to break the drought or you can just have the Boar and Venison if you want to go soft.

Trade Radio going on about how Fremantle should accept pick 6 for Cerra and get the deal done because he is OOC.

Really? I’ll remember that if Bing nominates St Kilda next year (when OOC) and Saints offer two first RDPs. Bet they lecture us about how Gold Coast should hold out for more.

Baffled by that. If he was in the open draft he'd probably go 3rd behind Daicos and Francis-Horne. He a matured top 5 pick coming into his prime years with no more development required. He worth a 1st and 2nd rounder.

They are huge on the "get the deal done " thing.
Like its more important to the club to just get it over with, so they can report it on trade radio, than it is to get the best result for the club.
Bell probably thinks its worth every bit of angst if he gets even a slightly better result for the club by dragging it out for more than a week.

They are also absolute simpletons on how negotiation works.
Club X values Player Y at a second round pick. Dodo says he is worth 4 first round picks.
They will say, "just offer 2 firsts and take a second back " without considering that the player may actually only be worth the 2nd.
Get the deal done.

Silly Steve Silvagni says Carlton should walk him to the National Draft. Reckons he will last until Carlton’s first pick.

Please do it. Gold Coast and Adelaide would definitely draft him.

This annual circus which decends into threats of preseason draft etc if no deal is struck is a stain on the game.

Players should be limited to only nominating a state they want to be traded to, not specific clubs.

Make them only be able to nominate a state and then simply let competitive market forces dictate where they go and how much they make.

Just to be clear, I'm not advocating the AFL allow players to be traded against their will.

If the best offer from a nominated state came from a club they really didn't want to play for and/or they weren't happy with the money or years of contract... then they could knock it back and re-sign with their existing club.

But naturally you would find that only those guys really committed to moving would do it- and those guys that are "homesick" (but strangely only "homesick" to play for x club on x contract)... suddenly wouldn't be so "homesick" afterall.

Yes, this would mean that we would lose our presumed advantage with a guy like bing, and when a guy like steele came up we would have needed to cough up way more than a future 2nd.

But it's swings and roundabouts- we would also potentially benefit from getting a proper crack at other trades we never otherwise would have.

It would eliminate the amateurish brinksmanship etc that plays out every year.

Plus it would actually help the expansion markets in Qld and NSW with their player retention issues, which despite us sometimes being the beneficiaries of (eg steele); i also think are a stain on the game.

It’s bazaar to listen to. Then they will contradict themselves the next moment. Silvagni says he also doesn’t have a problem with Peter Bell haggling for a better deal.

So which is it? Just get the deal done ASAP, or haggle and scrap for a better deal?

It’s mind numbingly dumb.

In fairness, I think my mind would go numb and I'd start churning out dribble if I had that job.
It's just air filler.

They don't care , they have to make up filler material for weeks.
Must be one of the worst media gigs in the AFL world.

I'm sure this happens behind the scenes. Cerra would have spoken to interested clubs before nominating Carlton. Other clubs either weren't interested or couldn't make a deal work.

Its spelt Parmigiana , but its not pronounced Parmy Jarna , So if you are pronouncing it Parmy its wrong. Parma is not much different from Parme ( how do you do those little speech accents? ) and its based on Parmesan cheese.

The Americans just became confused ( as usual ) and dropped a whole syllable ( as usual ) , like they did with Aloooominum.

Anyway , i'm probably wrong and we should ask Gringo who is an authority on all things italian.
You may think i'm a clown but i have size 160 shoes.

Get yourself over to La Parma in Spain where they’re literally falling from the sky [emoji2]

The thing to remember is that draft rules apply within the Trades Practices Act. It gets dicey when players lose rights that they already have. If players are told they cannot go to a club of their choice then it won’t be long until someone challenges the AFL rules. It only takes one maverick to cause problems.

The old restrain of trade chestnut would then be tested against the AFL rules. The general consensus is that the AFL would be, at best, uncertain if their rules would hold up. And it’s not in anyone’s interests to test those rules.

This is the greatest impediment to giving clubs more power and flexibility in trading their players, even if free agency rules were substantially reduced and relaxed to the benefit of the players.

Hasten slowly and with caution. Over time these things may organically change. But it will require industry acceptance among ALL key stakeholders.

i feel your pain. it's not so much the free hit for mine. the problem i have is the inequity the AFL have created.

the best thing the AFL ever did was implement mechanism to try and level the playing field between the haves and have nots. the salary cap and draft create a more even competition and ensured clubs didnt go bankrupt out spending each other. they went a step further and then implemented a soft cap in footy dept spending that was causing more inequity and clubs again running the risk of going into financial peril for an artificially inflated market/arms race.

but the handling of the academies has gone completely against these key pillars and their very objective of making the comp as even as possible.

this started with the academy given the Sydney/GWS/GC instead of evening that up, they caved to the wants of the big clubs and granted everyone a zone. like they learnt nothing from when zones were used and didn't understand the very reason of having a draft. people warned them about this and they were so tied to the power clubs, they ignored it. but when a pick 1 went to a club playing finals and a powerclub missed out on their prized pick 1 talent, suddenly it was a problem. coincidentally at a time when some power clubs faced a rebuild: richmond, adelaide, geelong, wce, hawthorn, collingwood.

suddenly the integrity of the draft and equalization is an issue again. colour me shocked.

so they identify it has to go. fine.

but then they just close the door on it, straight away. meaning 1/3 of clubs have had an unfair advantage. 2/3 of clubs miss out. Sydney/GWS/Brisbane/GC still get to benefit from it.

its just messed up.

Spot on St Cicatriz. The AFL has seen and copied the equalisation measures of the NFL, only to stuff it up with a couple of dumb sentimental decisions driven by their favoured clubs.

The Academies should never have existed, and were only introduced to provide Sydney with local talent at a discount. If Sydney placed any value on local talent then Lenny Hayes would have been a Sydney player; instead they chose the best available player at their pick (Jude Bolton from Vic) and then complained when we picked Lenny 2 spots later. As it is now, they would get both players. Then the league extended it to the other states and it just made it ridiculous.

The Father Son rule is the same - it provides a familiar name at a discount. Would Collingwood be trying to trade up to pick 1 or 2 to ensure they got Daicos this year? No, they're not interested in paying full price for him.

The AFL should abolish these two arrangements in the interests of equalisation, or just state that they don't run a competition that is equal.

Alternatively, I'll accept the AFL introducing the "Historical Misfortune Equalisation" rule. This rule acknowledges the historical misfortune suffered the the St Kilda Football Club and attempts to correct for this historical bias, by providing priority access to players from the Sandringham Dragons (as they are already based at RSEA Park, St Kilda can pre-list any number of Dragons players).
