Just seems like there is want to find every reason possible to justify why Gresh shouldn't play midfield despite his performances suggesting otherwise. Especially when we have a glaring hole in there for someone with his attributes.

He is far too talented to be sitting in a forward pocket. And if that is the plan for him, we might as well trade him because we wouldn't be using him to his fullest potential.
I think people are just afraid to put their hopes and dreams into the basket of him being our Dusty. He very well could come back in and get 15 contested possessions a game while kicking 1.5 goals a game, transforming our midfield and giving us a new look. We could also build him up over the off season and he's come back not quite right or prone to recurring injury.

So he stuck wth him and he came good and was 5th in the B&F. Maybe you just don't drop everybody in a form slump.
Stuck with him for too long IMO. I’m not gonna pretend him “coming good” was anything less than what was expected of a guy on his coin. And top 5 B&F was a joke result IMO. At least it helped the club sell the narrative that he was worth the coin. Hill’s year in it’s entirety was very poor. Not sure he came good at all.

His kicking is nowhere good enough to play the Caleb Daniel role. He's lucky he's fast and agile cause his kicking is like Luke Dunstan's

Dunstan is the kazoo that needs the big wind up before it hits the pitch and otherwise is just weird sound reaching a crescendo that never happens since tackled or bumped to make it crack in half.
Gresh is more banjo, even if you drop it, hit it, play it, headbutt it, wtf it, you get sound from string or hole behind string and it's a pitch at least.

Completely different kicking style, that's like saying backmen have same set shot kicks as forwards.

Gresham kicked 65 goals in his 2nd and 3rd years combined.

If he's not playing midfield it would be a baffling decision to put him in the back line.
Who said Gresham should play in the backline LOL

Is a hard break up when the coach tells him the truth , at least know we have management that calls a spade a spade.

Part of management is being diplomatic and bringing everyone along for the journey. Creating hostility is a fail as far as I'm concerned. I like a less passive set up but being divisive isn't good either. It might be Dunstan this time but what if it's Hunter Clark or another young gun next time?

C'mon you feral Alberton, INXS butchering pricks... sign Dunstan to a long term deal now... your midfield is cooked!
C'mon - I don'y have any problem at all with the Power mob singing "Never Tear Us A New One" before each game. A match made in heaven with a bogan band and a bogan club. A celebration of the feral without peer !

Gresham should be more like our Robbie Gray. Dusty can kick a footy 60m & is also arguably one of the best field kicks in the game - Gresham is lucky to kick a footy beyond 45m & both his field & goal kicking is suspect

Plus, coming back from a ruptured Achilles - maybe we should tether our expectations a little for 2022 & just hope he can have an injury free season

So there was a conspiracy at the Saints B&F to make Hill 5th best to 'set the narrative'? Maybe but also maybe your bias can't allow you to see he played a much better second half.

I a no Hill fan BTW, but not his fault we are paying him too much.

I think Dunstan needs to take some responsibility for the messing ending as well.

We will never know what was said behind closed doors, but Dunstan is the one who nailed the final nail in his own St Kilda coffin by going on radio, slamming Ratts and saying he'd reject a contract over staying. As soon as he publicly said that, he took away his ability to return with his tail between his legs if there was no where else to go.

True but it looks really messy and isn't a good thing no matter how people try to spin it. We've done a lot to build a more professional image and test things are a step backwards. Playing out a bust up in the media is not ideal.

One thing Gres is not is a great field kick.

Hill is not a player that will make a garbage team look good, and won't look good in a garbage team.
The Saints were putrid in some of our early games.

He had a good month or so of footy. Apart from that period he had a poor year. I find it difficult to believe anyone would actually think he was in our best 5 players for the year. I guess the club did so must be fact!

Read a couple pages back. It was suggested he play the Caleb Daniel role...
Problem is Caleb Daniel is one of the best, if not the best creative and accurate user of the ball in the game. Gresham isn't that bad but he's not in Daniel's class in that sense.

Robbie Gray wouldn't be a bad type to inject into our lineup. Need an impact player. I would be more than happy to see him just have an injury free season. Don't want to be piling pressure on the bloke. If he can never drop below 15 disposals and have maybe a few games where he shows his best again I'd be happy.

He will get a game every week and do the same thing he has been doing for the last couple of years. Can he get back back to 2019 form? Played 144 games , so is he going to get better? Dont think he will get a game in the forward line unless there is a strategy change, so wont be kicking a shedful of goals. Expect 20 possies a game with the odd good one thrown in. Beige, as one poster said.

Hawks had plenty of those plain, neat skilled beige types in their premiership sides. It's not an impediment to a career, he's just disappointing because he was a pick 3. Take him at pick 30 or trade him in he'd be a fan favourite. He's better than a lot of the recent trade ins and you'd think they were superstars the way we talk them up.

Guy I was replying to literally compared him to Petracca FFS

Now yes, there are people out there, Saints fans, that believe he’s an absolute star, and sits alongside Bont, Petracca, Patrick Cripps. They are bloody delusional

If you are one of these people that still believes JB is on the same level as these guys….

You aren't very good at reading are you. Go back and read the post again, champ

Hill played a lot of good games. But when he had a shocker, it was terrible.

And those games got a lot more attention than when anyone else played a poor game.
Hill, earlier in the season had a bit of the panicking "deer/rabbit in the headlights" thing going on, managing needless, embarrassing and stupid turnovers often resulting in opposition goals - to be fair this did improve in second half of season from memory.
