Who?

Give us some names of midfielders that you think we could entice to play and live Adelaide?

Missed any that fall in your age demographic?

Sam Walsh? out of contract 2026
Bailey Smith? out of contract 2024
Caleb Serong? out of contract 2023
Noah Anderson? out of contract 2023
Luke Davies-Unakie? out of contract 2023
Tom Green? out of contract 2023
Connor Rozee? out of contract 2024
Chad Warner? out of contract 2025
Shai Bolton? out of contract 2023

I think the player we are most likely to chase if he remains uncontracted is Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera personally?
thanks this is helpful
the only one there where (1) there might be a pre draft relationship and (2) fits the needs profile is Tom Green
also fits end 2023 contract

Think Shifter might be in need of a reality check...

The AFL’s talent ambassador has urged clubs to stick to picking the best prospects rather than avoid players because of concerns about the go-home factor.
Asked if it was riskier than ever to draft interstaters, Kevin Sheehan said teams would overlook a lot of top players if they always gave in to thinking their preferred choice would head home.
His comments came in light of several of this month’s trades stemming from homesickness and GWS football manager Jason McCartney saying there were some draftees the Giants could not select due to their apprehension about moving away.
Sheehan said creating great environments would help teams retain players.
“I’m one of those that (think) back your club and your system to make yours an attractive club, once you take the good player,” Sheehan said.

“If you think he’s the best player, take him.

“It’s like Freo saying ‘we’re not going to take Matthew Pavlich’ 20 years ago – ‘we’ll leave him because he might end up going home’.

“Make your club as good as it can be to be a great environment so he ends up your captain eventually.

“There’ll be some individuals they get worried about.

“But they said that about Chris Judd way back when, of Simon Black, who went to Brisbane and played 300 games, of Luke Power, who played 300 as well up there.

“Believe in your football set up and your coaching that you’ll retain the best player if you think he’s the best.”

Sheehan was speaking at SA’s draft combine, where 15 prospects were tested on their running, jumping and athleticism at Mawson Lakes on Saturday.

Fourteen SANFL players attended the national equivalent in Melbourne last week.

Sheehan said SA would be hoping to have about 12 draftees – about 15 per cent of the total taken across the country.

He named Woodville-West Torrens midfielder Mattaes Phillipou and Adelaide father-son prospect, Norwood defender Max Michalanney, as two of the best local prospects.

“Clubs see players very, very differently,” Sheehan said.

“We’re testing 139 (nationally), we think there’s about 80 spots overall.

“The number of clubs here suggest a number of these boys will definitely be taken.”

There's a good chance he's still growing too. Could end up at 196+

Just makes it all the more bizarre we didn't just tell GC to take next years 1st for Rankine, leaving our Pick 5 this year for what seems to be a player that fits literally every need we're looking for in a midfielder. Height, big-bodied, attacking, x-factor, quality kicking....

I just don't subscribe to the notion that GC told us 'no we don't want your future 1st, we have academy players and it won't work...' and we just rolled over, despite THAT scenario seemingly fitting to our list strategy 100%

AFL 2022: Spectre of a Tasmanian team has rivals on red alert to avoid compromised drafts chaos

Clubs do not want to be stuck trying to rebuild when the likely new Tasmanian team is introduced, but the AFL has an idea to combat fears about a draft wipe-out, writes Jay Clark.

A new Tasmanian team would be forced to trade out a significant portion of its top draft picks for mature players in a bid to speed-up the 19th team’s on-field rise.
The league has begun briefing clubs on the proposed list concessions for a new Tasmanian team which aims to avoid the mistakes made in the Gold Coast and GWS Giants’ setup.

In particular, the league wants a new Tasmanian team to be more competitive in its first few seasons and, at the same time, minimise the impact of the draft concessions on rival clubs.

It means the 19th club would still receive a swathe of top draft picks but the league will make the club trade them for stars and ready-to-go role players rather than stockpile early selections for elite underage talents.

It will ensure rival clubs will still have access to the traded-out first-round draft picks in contrast to the 2010-2012 period when the Suns and Giants dominated the drafts.

Nine of the first 13 players at the 2010 draft went to Gold Coast and 11 of the first 14 players in the 2011 draft went to GWS, as well as the top-two players the following year.

It heavily restricted teams’ access to top-end talent for a three-year period, but the league is determined to avoid the same scenario when Tasmania is likely brought in from 2027.

A decision is expected to be made by the AFL in the next few weeks with strong support expected from all but two or three clubs.

The spectre of a Tasmanian team was a factor in this year’s trade period as Geelong and Hawthorn made moves to access young talent before the compromised drafts likely begin from 2025.
