Cowan can play. Great defensively / in the contest, big boot, good overhead too.

Reminds me of Maynard from the pies.
I'd be very surprised if he couldn't eventually transition into the midfield if required, he's certainly big and strong enough with a real weapon with his kick.

I actually wouldn't mind trading with Port, if Geordiades and or Bergman leave and they get a late first I'd give them 5 so they can have Philipou and we'll take 10 and the late 1st and then it's a matter of giving maybe the late first and 2nd round pick to GC and holding 8 for a Cam McKenzie sort.

Seriously?

Why would we do that unless you know we rate McKenzie over Phillipou?

Gold Coast don't need more picks...

Let's wait until Richmond play tonight before working out how to spend their pick 12, beat Brisbane and it becomes pick 15 and possibly going higher.

I also think the PSD is not an option, too many clubs before us would roll the dice to pick up Rankine for free. Clarko would be seeing Cyril, Dodoro would be seeing another winning trade period. Rankine himself wouldn't want to take the risk. We chased him, it's up to us to get him over without that worry.

Gotta love how these VFL "experts" always list Phillipou as the son of Western Bulldog 3 game player Sam. No word on his other 150 games. Or even more so, his Grandfather Peter who played 270 SANFL league games pre-AFL plus three seasons in Canberra due to work during the middle of his career, where he played well enough to be named Centre in the ACT All Time Legends team.
It's pathetic.

VFL isn't anywhere near the level of AFL, it's embarrassing to lump it together.

A lot more AFL listed players running around every week than in SA or WA though.
Yeah, but at a club level it's a lot harder to win an AFL premiership than it was a VFL premiership.

18 clubs, along with all the talent in Australia without exception, the standard is different to the old days.

AFL is to the old VFL what VFL was to SANFL.

I don’t see much benefit in getting 19. 12 and Richmond’s future first maybe (replacing the future first we gave up). I assume in this scenario though we would give GC 5 and keep 12 for ourselves

What?

We give Richmond a future first for 12 and 19.

We give 12 to GCS for Rankine and use 5, 19 and 23 in the draft.

Would we do our future first for 12 and 19, and Richmond give the future first to GWS for Taranto? GWS will end up with too many picks in this draft if they're not careful.
would want more than 12 and 19 for our future 1st..

our future 1st could very easily be a top 5 pick..

Trading future picks isn't as easy as a club like us saying 'hey guys, take our future pick, it's likely to be a pick between 3-7'

Clubs trading away known picks always want a little bit of a buffer zone to mitigate the risk.

Trading away our future 1st round pick, for (if Bulldogs lose tonight) Pick 13 & 20 from Richmond is absolutely fair value.

Especially considering Pick 20 (1st pick 2nd rd) has regained it's extra valuable status with the return of the draft to being over 2 nights.

I liked Heard from Norwood last week. He seemed all over Himmer, and, while not a superstar, is of AFL standard. What's his background? Is he worth a rookie pickup to bolster our defence stocks, especially if we lose Mcasey.

he was nice agree but hes short for afl at 190cm as a kpd

Why is it a problem if Phillipou is a Powa supporter? I'm fairly certain that Brodie Smith was/is a Port supporter.

I'm thinking we need min 6 main list spots - this is going to be challenging as we know
2 - butts and strachan upgrades (if they got sweet strachan will go so that evens out)
1 - rankine trade in (not using this years draft capital at all)
3 - at draft (@5 phillipou or mckenzie seem likely, @23 keeler, points for michalanney)

Now 6 spots
  • seed will be retired contract paid out (very sad -find a role for him as someone else said)
  • frampton trade out
  • rowe trade out
  • crouch trade out
  • brown and mcpherson paid out one year gibbs style - these blokes are never playing AFL again
  • personally would love to see murphy and ROB traded but wont happen so ignore

rookies
  • retain the 2 cat Bs
  • davis delisted
  • turner rookied
  • two rookie spots remain given the upgrades of butts and strachan

thoughts - how can we get the three picks at the Nat draft we will want?
