If we pick at 23, might be some interesting options depending on which direction we take.
If Barnett is there, hope we take him.
Not sold on Keeler, his lack of contested work, in particular his pack marking, is a real concern.
One that really interests me is Ed Allan. 194cm, elite speed and dual sided. Predominantly outside at this stage, but so was a similar sized Bontempelli at his age.
Jakob Ryan is another who I really like, decent size and a great kick. Whether he could transition into a midfielder is the question, not sure we need another intercepting HBF?

Why would we be looking at Jakob Ryan if as it appears we are likely drafting Michalanney?

Why? Next year's first round pick will likely be a better player than Phillipou by all reports.

Plus it would remove our ability to trade the pick away for an established gun player if we were able to get one.

It would be a desperate move IMO.
Our best option was to split the 2022 first in Rankine trade but we didn't do that.
Phillipou only a few days off next years draft and if you did the draft now he’d be top 5

So it’s not a silly idea given he’s local , he’s a potential 193cm mid , he’s well prepared for AFL footy with good pedigree

I don't quite understand this.
He's allegedly well below 5 in this draft, which is supposed to be much worse than next year's, so how would he rate 5 in next year's?

Would be because it's almost an under ager this year for him because of his late birthday so if he was born in January he'd have another whole development year ahead of him.

Bottom ager who is playing against older players, has done well to get to the level he has considering and is expected with another years development his stocks will improve. Not saying that’s what will happen but that’s the rationale

The talent is undoubtedly there, but his lack of physicality gives me Josh Schache vibes. I'd still take him if there's no one else there but Barnett is the one I want if he's available, an athletic ruck is exactly what we need. Keeler hasn't really demonstrated he can play there.

I wouldn't have done that trade, but West Coast must believe their list is cooked and the only way to rebuild is through multiple first rounders
This is what people often forget when evaluating of trades . Needs to be viewed through the strategic intent of the club . I actually think west coast played this well from where they are sitting. They have never been a conservative club willing to stay down for long so trying to fast their rebuild. Wish we had half their mongrel

Your club’s list needs, latest intel and who they could take

ADELAIDE

Draft picks: 23, 46

List needs: Midfield class and height, key defender, young ruckman

Who could be available at first pick: Max Michalanney, Harry Barnett, Ed Allan, Isaac Keeler, Lewis Hayes, Henry Hustwaite, Coby Burgiel

Who’s in the mix after that: Jaiden Magor, Jaxon Binns, Adam D’Aloia, Kyle Marshall

After Adelaide gave up pick 5 in a trade to land Gold Coast’s Izak Rankine, the Crows won’t enter the draft until the second night, when they will be hoping to pick a player before a bid comes for father-son prospect and Norwood defender Max Michalanney, who sits right in the second-round mix. The best ruckman in the draft, Harry Barnett, is another homegrown talent, whose profile fits the developing Crows’ list. But will he still be available? It still looks unlikely Isaac Keeler, a Crows Next Generation Academy prospect and forward/ruck, will fall to pick 40, where Adelaide gets access to him. WA bolter Ed Allan has the size and speed the Crows’ crave in the midfield.

Latest word: The Crows have shown significant interest in Barnett, but some clubs believe the big man could be off the board by pick 23.

Have you seen Allen, he seems to have what we need, go home factor?

Stopped looking at draftee's given the uncertainty over our Draft Pricks .....Allen seems one of those typical 50/50 Draft selections

I do think, given we appear not getting Phillipou, our greatest need is additional KPD / RUCK support

Butts 198 cm ...but Murray at 194cm exposes a lack of height down back, if McAsey doesn't progress

Re: a KPD - I feel like we might look for depth this year in that department (ie rookie selection), then go for a quality player via trade/FA either next year, or the year after

Cox and HH the two names that stand out

can HH actually defend or just good at playing loose and getting cheapies in backline? I not seen enough of his games live to know

Id like to have seen EH given a go back this year. he has the height - again whether he can defend I dont know. i suspect he would get involved in play more than murray. what I do know is hes not getting a game up forward or as 1st ruck. so unless hes been kept just to lure harrison he must go back.

I honestly don’t think the club has an interest in him. Apparently he is family are mad Power fans - is there another kind - and perhaps they indicated he would rather go interstate than play for us?

Not sure what it is but we don’t appear like we have looked at him at all

Several meetings would suggest otherwise. Crows love him and are keeping options open, even if it's just to maintain a good relationship.

His family mad Power supporters? Honestly, where do these rumours come from!

It’s not that difficult - ( let’s say he was 6 days younger and a bottom ager ) if you put all the bottom agers from this years nationals and U18s around the country in a pile he would be in the top 5 if not top 3

Or if you put all the bottom agers in this years draft only Harley Reid would definitely be taken before him , he’d be in mix for the 2nd pick of the bottom agers

Basically that’s why it’s a decent idea to try and take him now given he’s young and if you project he would be up there in a stronger draft after 12 more months of development ( if he was 6 days younger and eligible )

I don't see how you could possibly say he would be top 5 even under those pretences.
With another years development maybe he drops down to 15-20.
There's a reason he isn't considered top ten, otherwise his age and projection would have clubs rating in this year's top 5.

Jeffcrowe logic doesn't make sense here.
His age would be a reason for recruiters to put him into this year's top 5 if they believed he would end up better than next year's top 5 prospects.

I'm not big on spending early round draft collateral on Ruckmen unless they are truly dominant and Barnett whilst good certainly wasn't a dominant force at the Nationals against the better opposition. There's talk Barnett may be developable as a KPP possibly but that wouldn't help our ruck position if that was the path taken.

There looks to be some developable types that likely go late/rookie I'd be looking at unless we trade up because I personally doubt Barnett will still be there at #23 , the high leaping athletic South Adelaide's 200cm Will Verrall I think would be worth a shot later/rookie who has also shown plenty of promise up forward. If it's a pure ruckman then 206cm 91kg Max Knobel (son of Trent) looks a grweat project prospect.

Do we need a dominant ruck? I think we just need a mobile ruck who is pretty good tap ruckman and can take a mark around the ground.

I'll be honest I haven't watched much championships this year, is he any of that?

Quick YouTube search and this clip is quite impressive.
