Fair enough, without regard for anything: combine, sliders, who’s the man?

If Busslinger slides, I would take him
Do you feel the fact we went for Motlop last year as a small forward may mean we focus on other areas eg key position player or that half forward/midfielder rather than a Hotton type.

Do you believe there is a possibility of trading up some spots as seems to be some talk of Gold Coast trading their pick

Think you can do both in this draft

While Hotton was off today, he is that HF/Mid type that would suit our needs and has had a great back half of the year

Trade wise, I would target some of GC's 2nd rounders this year

Nice. Look forward to seeing how it pans out. Thanks for your work.

While he lacks the absolute consistency of Top 8-9 ranked prospects, if you like players such Cam Guthrie, Steele Sidebottom, Keidian Coleman, Jayden Short and Ed Langdon, it's really hard not to like Cowan. He's a genuine run-and-gun line-breaker who has exquisite disposal by hand and foot, can find his own ball, stick a tackle, is a good decision-maker and importantly, follows up his work at speed to gain two and three possessions in a chain of play. He's also shown the ability to play in the middle at times where he's capable of flying through the stoppage and out the other side with ball in hand like a tornado.

If I'm looking at prospects (realistically available) between Picks 10 & 20 that have the potential to expand and develop their game to take themselves to the next level then Cowan is right up there. He stands at 188cm & 81kg, but will only become stronger and more powerful as he puts on size once he enters an elite AFL environment. If he can make it through preseason uninjured and achieving benchmarks the development & coaching staff set him, Cowan could play 8-10 games in his first season.

FWIW, this kid will test really well at the Combine in many areas, including speed, endurance, agility, clean hands and kicking so I'd expect him to come into the late teens (15-19) in terms of a selection. Given Pick 10 could end up at Pick 12 (Ashcroft bid & potential Amon compo depending on contract) I don't think he's that much of stretch at our Pick. Others will disagree, but each to their own.

What’s his desire like? You make him sound like a too 2-3 pick, I assume he goes when he feels like it…

Not a fan of hayes… doesn’t have much of a presence. Great size but isn’t what I’d look for in a key back. Very speculative at this point. Needs time to develop and we are a club in a hurry.

Looked pretty assured of himself today. Intercepted beautifully and has a very neat kick. Also, we don’t need him to play round 1.

Was at the game. My jaw dropped watching Reid.

Gonna be a superstar of the game that kid.

North fans would be devod. Best 2 players on the ground arent available for them
Understand where you're coming from, I personally think Boomer's boy is going to be an absolute jet.
Totally nailed the career killer position today, from what I've seen close to the best player in it, and he is theirs, he'll numb the disappointed

Any of Sheezel, Cadman or Tsatas as well, sets them up nicely for coming years.

If I was North, I would trade pick 1 for multiple 1st rounders

Suns 5 (Rankine) & 7
GWS 3 & 12 ( Tigers)

I agree, I'd be uncomfortable as a North fan with just one pick inside the top 50.

This seems a great year to trade #1 but I don't think they have the balls to do it.

With acres coming in I can see us being more needs base's too

Easy decision for me, if available….Cam Mackenzie!

Has game sense, pace, likes the contest, spreads well, works both ways and uses the really well both by hand and foot.

Separately, was sitting in the 1st row today and heard the runner yell at him to go have a spell on the bench…it was 15 mins into Q3 and I paid close attention to him given the bench was on the other wing. He didn’t go off for at least the next 5 mins (if at all) - I got the sense that he felt the game was in the balance and wanted to influence the outcome.

Few comments on todays players:

Will Ashcroft: Very professional smart player. No Sam Walsh or Nick Daicos. More Will Phillips at this level. Very good but a tad limited.

Pascu: Liked him. Obviously well built already, but has weapons with power, kicking penetration and especially liked his competitiveness.

Sheezel: If he is committed(i have no idea if he is, or not) he will be a top notch AFL player.

Rye Penny: Late draft smokey.

Cam Mackenzie: Didn't like.

Tsatas: Was expecting dynamism. Got a sneak up onya 30 posi game. No knock.

Jefferson: Prospect. More around 15-20 than 10 for me. No knock.

Gruzewski: had to be impressed withe 4 different styles of mark he took. Although that's about all he did. Interesting.

Lewis Hayes: Very impressed.

Binns: Impressive. Showed off an AFL game.

Jhye Clark: Felt he almost tried too hard early. Settled and played a tough AFL pro style of play.

Hollands. Very impressed. Reminded me of watching Hugh Mc at the same age without maybe the goal power.

Burgiel. No knocks. Quite impressed.

Brennan. Didn't like.

Harley Reid: Outstanding. Best player out there. In 2nd gear too.

Humphrey: The classic boom or bust. Outstanding yet question marky.

Cadman: Almost a sure thing AFL forward. Just a matter of good or excellent one.

Murdoch: Impressive i thought.

Hustwaite: Didn't like.

For us on today's game:

Would happily use Pick 10 on probable candidates:

Hollands: Great running partner for Walshy to share the burden with down the track.

Hayes: Quality KPD well worth the pick.

Humphrey: Think we're in good enough list shape to take the punt if other 2 are gone.

Also watched about a dozen yearly highlight vids of top endish prospects. Ones that caught my eye for comment relative to expectation:

Cowan: was the one that impressed me. Would use a 20's pick on him.

Elijah Hewett: was the one that didn't. Wouldn't use a pick before 20.

Pretty underwhelming performances today in my view. Historically I’ve found if I am talking myself into players it’s a sign the draft is weak.

If that’s Sheezel you can have him. I don’t like supposed freaks who fumble like he did on multiple occasions. I don’t like his athletic profile either. I’m glad he’s taking up a spot befoe our pick.

I’m yet to see it with Hotton. I don’t like his awareness or decision making.

Humphries looks super unfit…..yet explosive as hell. Is the sort of player we need

Cadman, Hayes and Jefferson are the types to go top ten in my view. Especially Cadman and Jefferson. Doubt either is there for us.

I really liked the game of Hollands- particularly his hands and two way running. Both AFl standard. Skips very good too. Size? Didn’t really seem knocked off the ball so not sure I would be too worried. First 10-20m? Average I’d say. May struggle to create space.

Seems certain I guess that Cadman, Sheezel, Clark, Tsitsas gone befoee our pick.

Agree he was strong through tackles and at the contest today, surprised me a lot up against some of the bigger bodies in there. Probably won't find it as easy in the AFL but I think he'd be a round 1 ready gut running winger and is a lovely kick when in space. I'm sure he'll put on some muscle over a few pre seasons but god would it be good if he had Elijah's broader shoulders.

Clark really the only chance out of that lot. Those types of talents are ones that clubs would kill for. Especially Cadman and Tsatas. Clark is more just a tough nut who gives it his all and oozes leadership. Could see him sliding back a couple of picks for more your speculative types such as Humphrey and Philippou depending on which clubs end up with the picks.
