maybe they've got pretty good info that he'll get taken well before pick 40 and they don't want perceptions that they were gazumped.

No. Simple explanation is they don’t rate him.
I’d be interested why not? On face value he’s at least worth a rookie spot?

They can nominate him and if they don’t want to match a bid past 40, don’t match it. If he slips through to the rookie draft, they get him for free. I’m not sure you can just nominated as a rookie.

Thats what i mean. I reckon they think he will be there in the rookie draft where they c an just add him to the list for free.

Afl clubs seem to have ridiculously high expectations on the professionalism of school kids who are good at footy, but not so high expectations of head coaches?

Darcy Jones scored an agility test record at the draft combine clocking in at 7.702 seconds. That is phenomenal and a pretty good guide as to your chances of making it at the top level. It’s one of those tests good players do well.
