KPPs aren't always in the top ten of their draft class but still go on to play very well. Mitch Lewis was a throwaway pick in the 70s but has cracked Hawthorn's team. Lemmey's weaknesses can be fixed with the right environment but it seems almost certain (from various things I've heard) we'll be taking at least one of Lemmey, Keeler or Barnett.
source?

Wondered if those posters that watch the draftees closer than me had any thoughts on Ed Allen. From the little that I've seen and read about him, he seems very impressive and would be in the range of our Pick 16.

I'm just amazed that so many posters seem to know exactly who Hine intends to pick and who we are in to.

Are some of you posters in his knitting circle?
A mix of Chinese whispers and guess work. I am the watcher

Source: Keeler rumour came from Jen, Lemmey is all over BigFooty and Barnett is from E&BW.

One of those will land at us - I'm near certain of it.

Just looking at their vids (I know, I know…) and I would have thought Lemmey was the ruckman and Barnett the KPP. Barnett’s movement is exceptional at 202cm.

I would take them Barnett/Keeler > Lemmey, but that’s just me.

Magor had his fair share of injuries this year but everytime he comes back he just keeps kicking goals

just looked at highlights then, smooth, both sides of the body. just has that look of a classy player. creates space for himself by being dual sided, thats a weapon for any player . Also racked up some big numbers so clearly he plays through the midfield as well
i can see why we are using all 3 picks, seems to be some hidden gems that are not hyped up by the media that look the goods

Going on the the past 15 years of Hine, we will be getting 2 mids and a hybrid small forward. I will sit and wait for the melts.

As long as they’re versatile and can play eight positions poorly.

Apart from Gunston, how many others with that profile have made it?
Clearly Gunston is the exception not the rule.
Jefferson isn't that small, so it's not relevant to the discussion - It was just an example of a player not being huge at draft age.

Jefferson is 195cm, 84kg.

If you really want to go through how many KPPs were skinnier than their eventual playing weight when they were drafted... Pretty much all of them.

I was reading several articles on Barnett a few days ago. Described by several scouts as a clearance beast like Grundy, but very good contested/overhead mark, kick, jumps high and a good tap ruckman. Can play forward. Agile. Reportedly still growing

I suggested him 3 or 4 weeks ago but no one cared, he's a gun and would love him at our first pick

I kjeep saying there are some hidden gems, I hope we take 4 picks

Country footy smokey firms

Country footy smokey Joe Richards has come from the clouds to enter serious AFL Draft calculations after a surge of interest from a handful of clubs.

Testing at this month’s state draft combine after receiving an eleventh hour invite, Richards has turned heads with his electric speed, innate goal sense and kicking on both sides of his body in the Ovens and Murray Football League for Wangaratta.

The 22-year-old school teacher, who looms as a potential rookie option, came equal third in both the standing vertical jump and running vertical jump at the testing day in Melbourne earlier this month.
Grand finalists Geelong and Sydney are understood to be among the clubs to have registered interest in the playmaker, who has won three best-and-fairests and has been coached for the past two seasons by former Collingwood premiership player Ben Reid.

Collingwood has also touched base with Reid about the speedy forward, with Reid telling Magpies recruiting boss Derek Hine: “This kid can play.”

The Swans first reached out about Richards through Bruce Reid Jr, the father of Ben and Sydney tall Sam.

“Those two clubs, I think both of them could take a punt on him – I hope he goes to the Pies to be honest!” Reid told News Corp.

“He’s got a lot of AFL traits in terms of his speed and the way that he can break games open with five or six quick steps.”

Reid, who played 152 games for the Magpies before his retirement in 2020, believes Richards deserves a spot on an AFL list, saying that he has significant upside along with the attributes and dedication to make it at the next level.

Low pick numbers

A historically low number of draft prospects look set to be given an opportunity to join the AFL this year as clubs instead eye what shapes as a super draft in 2023.

Multiple clubs surveyed by News Corp this week said they expected only around 50 players to be drafted in next month’s national draft.

Following the trade period, Adelaide, Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Richmond each hold only two draft picks and are understood to be happy with that.

Clubs are becoming more creative and are finding different ways to try and stay competitive, rather than relying heavily on the draft as they have in the past.

Next year’s strong draft crop is also playing on the minds of some.

“It’s obvious everyone likes next year’s draft better,” one senior recruiter said.
Players who do miss the national draft can still get opportunities through the rookie draft, pre-season supplemental selection period or even the mid-season rookie draft next year.

A total of 65 players were selected in last year’s national draft.

Looks bloody good to me. Would be happy with he and Keeler at 25 and 27. Hotton too at that number, obviously a completely different position but someone else who’s been talked about on here lately.

Not sure who I should be hoping for at 16.

Fritsch is the best kick for goal in the competition. Jefferson is a woeful one. That is why Fritsch can be such a damaging low-possession forward

Not sure he was comparing Frisch with Jefferson per se, just making the point not all forwards need to be Hawkins clones.

More like a kid who has been injured most of the year and only played a couple of private school (APS) games.

Shifter has Lewis Hayes at 199cm now.
