Dream onApparently Samoa is a real chance to win the Rugby League world cup.
I see a future where Samoa, Tonga and Fiji will dominate international rugby league.
V’landys has always been very AFL conscious.
If he can’t do this, the AFL will continue to slowly and quietly (sort of) creep into its heartland with great strategic plays like the GABBA redevelopment, kids participation and greater reach.

Facts hurt you
Nobody mentions that a troubled NRL should make it easier for rugby or soccer or basketball etc - only AFL - why is that ?
Whilst I don’t profess to know the intricate details of the costs of both leagues, the AFL has a proven successful track record of investing deeply into participation and game development, especially in developing markets. This is a noted weakness of the NRL which V’landys has previously noted and hinted at addressing. The AFL is profitable and it’s latest broadcast deal locks in the games continued growth through a proven successful strategy of investing in the games growth at the grassroots. The AFL have done well and yes Vlandy's got embarrassed on the tv deal, however one thing I do like is how much profit the NRL has been bringing in the past few years compared to the AFL, with the extensive cost cutting he did.
The AFL have over double the cost base which seems way too much. I'd like to see them trim the fat at AFL hq and bank extra profits, to really put a gap between them and their competitors long term.
Very interesting to see those figures side by side. Thank you.A-league

The AFL has a much higher cost structure (from the number of players alone) and invest huge amounts back into the game, which they should as a non-for-profit.
It's probably true that HQ remains bloated, and probably has been for a very long time.
Also, the NRL doesn't really have to invest heavily in player development. They have another football code doing half the work for them, and a virtual inexhaustable supply of Pacific Islanders who can step onto an NRL list. Pacific Islanders would make up about 0.5% of the Australian population, but make up about 45% of NRL playing rosters, which is quite extraordinary.
V'Landys is your typical low class bogan blow hard the Sydney media love (News Corp and Foxtel) esp if V'Landys is having shots at the hated Victoria!I read that article today, it’s fascinating and raises so many interesting points.
V’landys has always been very AFL conscious. He has always appeared to be that type of rugby, anti Victorian figure with a chip on his shoulder. He’s done a good job at the NRL: Led it well through and out of covid, saved the game from bankruptcy, been instrumental in reforming rules to open up the game (but like AFL).
However, he’s certainly not delivered the optimal commercial result from its broadcasters, it’s largest revenue source. He arguably locked in its current rights deals at a time when he thought security was paramount, when in fact if he held out he’d have achieved more $$’s. His test will be the next deal..
The Clubs are financially stronger, more member focussed and have improved their financial results on lower cost based (like the AFL Clubs out of covid). The article notes new franchise The Dolphins will have assets of $100M, presumedly relating to a Leagues Club operation somewhere.
The next 5 years critical. He needs to achieve a much improved broadcast deal to unlock necessary investment in Stadiums, game participation and community programs to get kids in the sport. If he can’t do this, the AFL will continue to slowly and quietly (sort of) creep into its heartland with great strategic plays like the GABBA redevelopment, kids participation and greater reach.
And the AFL own their own Billion Dollar Stadium not a few poxy hotels!Whilst I don’t profess to know the intricate details of the costs of both leagues, the AFL has a proven successful track record of investing deeply into participation and game development, especially in developing markets. This is a noted weakness of the NRL which V’landys has previously noted and hinted at addressing. The AFL is profitable and it’s latest broadcast deal locks in the games continued growth through a proven successful strategy of investing in the games growth at the grassroots.
The NRL is very profitable but must increase its investment in the games growth now we’re through covid. The next broadcast deal the NRL secured will be so pivotal in this regard.

Got a link to Islanders 45% of NRL playing rosters?
It's common knowledge and has been for a while. Don't tell me you didn't know this.
It was the number that surprised me. Is it the NRL itself or does it include the lower grades &/or
There are no NRL rosters in union!......as yet......maybe in the futureUnion ?
