Except it wasn't modest earlier this year it was pronounced he was just confident

In the GF no arc cause he's on the wrong side for it and he kicks it pretty bloody straight.
Its a bad technique mate I can't understand how you think it works for him. He got confident for like 4 games in his whole career that's why it 'worked' now hes mentally shot and his crap technique is making it worse.

Look again mate, your example in the grand final he runs straight at the right point post. And the other one he flushes with a big arc from 55m so supports my argument better than yours!

Anyway we’re going round in circles here, neither of us are gonna change our minds cos it’s a matter of opinion

No it's not!

I vaguely recall Gawn mentioning his routine in an interview last year, and Stafford's advice was basically pick something and stick with it so you're consistent. Unfortunately doesn't help with consistently bad habits that produce consistently shit results

That's the worst coaching advice I've heard.

Exactly. The "routine" argument doesn't excuse poor mechanics.

If you run straight at the target, drop the ball straight over your foot, and swing your leg straight through you're scientifically more likely to kick the ball straight.

Routine is how far back you go, whether you pull up your socks or spit out your mouthguard, spin the ball, the speed you run etc. Having those things in a set routine will help ensure the mechanics are consistent and your thinking about the right thing.

If the plan is a new #1 ruck then Gawn simply has to become a more reliable set-shot converter. That's not going to happen if we rely on confidence or "flushing it". The cost of missing is more than just 5 points (momentum, scoreboard pressure, turnover, etc)

Nut Maxy hasn't been consistent, in his approach to kick for goal.

The one which he runs straight at the point post, went right online to that area of the behinds. = he kicked thru the line. That's all he needs to do.

I reckon some players get too far into their own head when it comes to the ‘routine’ or ‘mechanics’ of a set shot for goal.

Do definitely want a nice action, but your head needs to be focused on where you are landing the ball behind the goals - just like a field kick where you aren’t thinking about your mechanics at all.

Max King was a good example of this last night I think.

I know its a 1 in 1000 chance in happening, about after St Kildas petulant response to Max King getting help outside the club to fix his goal kicking, I hope we at least pickup the phone and ask him if he's sure that's the mob that's going to get the best out of him. Contracted and grew up a St Kilda fan so no chance but even if it pissed off the Saints that'd be enough for me.

Is Harrison Jones from the Dons worth a look? Has stalled this year but looked like a pretty promising KPF the previous year. And he might be fed up with what's happening there.

Grimesy87 on here suggested we were in talks with him.

If we are talking about fantasy options, I'd offer Tom De Koning 700-800k a year to be our number one forward. He's never gonna get infront of McKay and Curnow and maybe he wants to be a forward instead of mid/defender.

Carlton would move him on this year if they're smart. Going to be very tough to keep him next year with his contract running out and their cap being tight.

They should also try and get Gunston for free.

I'd probably give them both of the Jackson picks as well.

I mentioned TDK a while back as a target but isn't he more an athletic ruck who can drift forward rather than a genuine KPF? Not saying he can't settle in that one position forward if he trained there permanently but I haven't seen him play as an actual KPF much.

He would be the perfect Jackson replacement, just not sure if he's our KPF answer.

There's no gun or even good kpf available. Clubs can go a decade without finding one. We either chase after imaginary KPFs who don't exist or we get pro active. Chol and Peter Wright weren't heralded as great key forwards and look at em now
