It shouldn't be, but probably is.

What I don't get is if the Cats can do that, why don't the Sun's just do that and keep some continuity within the group?

That's the bit I font get. It's not like he's asked to leave e to go to the cTs, it's been driven by the Sun's.

So is there something under the covers that no one knows about and that's the real reason he's on the outer?
Who knows? Lots of shonky going’s on by some clubs who seem to have ever- expanding salary caps!

Yes, but not my point.
If the contract can be varied, there are 17 teams capable of pitching for him.
Depending on how much importance each places on #7, and you’d imagine there’s not much difference between them.
In other words, if Geelong can vary the contract so can any of the other 16 teams.
So this whole media beat up about only teams with SC room being in the chase is b/s.
Well no. Ultimately Bowes is a 25 year in his first year of this deal. Show **** all really with regards to becoming a player equal to the contract he will be on.

That will turn clubs off. That’s a risk over 3-4 years let alone 1-2

I get it's a hypothlethical, but if I was that player, do I think my next contra t is only $200 or $300k p.a.?

If I was getting $650k say and I knew I was back ended, I'd still think my next contract at worst is going to be $350-400k but if performed even better then maybe I get back to where I am.

So if it was smoothed out over 3 or 4 years, it shouldn't be a massive drop from where I'm expecting because I still want to get paid what I'm worth.

You're probably totally right, but I don't see why the player should take a hair cut, which is effectively what happens in that scenario when I already have a contract in place.
Ultimately. He is probably going to be out of the system if he doesn’t improve at the end of these 2 years. (He will be 26)

An additional 1-2 seasons on 150-300k per year (additional to what’s owed) is a **** load better then working in an office and playing suburban footy

If I'm the player I have had a realisation at this point that having a back ended contract has a MASSIVE impact on how the club judges your value, and you are likely to get pushed out the door, as has been the case across the league in the last 2- 3 years. If Jack Bowes original contract had of been front ended he most likely would be playing at the GC next year.

Removing the back ended element and shifting in to a front ended contract by asking for the 1.7 million in the first 2 years (regardless of how the contract gets restructured) is smart positioning for the future by the player on a number of levels in my opinion.

Think mark stevens reported that and he’s been terrible lately.
He Reported-
Hartigan to saints (false)
Tomlinson to the dogs (false)
Very true. Fair few people in the media have had poor starts to this years trade period though

Typical neckbeard, can’t maintain eye contact. She looks crazy tho 😂

That's what I thought. She looks unhinged, maybe a good thing 😈

Loves harassing players as they jump off the plane though, can't question the determination

I wouldn't jump at any deal as of yet , who knows who becomes available.
With players like Taranto , Dunkley , Hopper , Grundy being traded a few others could be pushed out - and we could easily pick up a salary dump and get a player who wasn't on anyone's radar.

A lot to go down

He is still in contract so will not be a free pick up.
21yr old and has played 10 games - from Sandringham Dragons.
His dad Chris played one game with the Saints. Plugger knows him I think. I went to school with him and played
school footy with him - a bit like James Hird but obviously not as good. Fischer is a bit bigger.

Surely with all those players having made their intended destinations quite clear the players it impacts most would have already had their name out there.

  • Grundy is just a replacement for Jackson but impacts Weideman. A lot on here are not interested in him.
  • Taranto & Hopper will impact Graham (Port bound), RCD, Ross: would love us to approach RCD.
  • Dunkley probably takes Robinson/Matheson's spot. Not sure anyone great will be leaving there maybe a youngster like Robertson or Tunstill but nothing to get too excited about. Will be interesting to see how they fit Neale, Lyons, Bailey, McCluggage, Berry, Zorko, Raynor all in their team but imagine they will find a way.

An Ormond boy. plugger66 would be all over it ;)

I haven't had my coffee this morning, but am I missing something here ... was owed $850 pa x 2 years, but now they're going to pay him the SAME amount spread over 4 years? Why would he take that?

He was only paid $600 a year or something but they kept pushing it out and not paying all of it. It's got to a point where he is so expensive to pay out that they have to pay someone off to take him.

Geelong will pay him $300 pa as a his base wage but then spread the $400k pa he's going to have added on over the 4 years so he'll be taking $700k per year off them but guaranteed a long term deal to take a hit and get his back pay as he goes for example. If they get him and Humphrey he's being paid a decent wage but not crippling and you get a star kid who won't be earning big bucks for a few years any way.
