Honestly think he could be a low risk high reward option. Has had personal issues being away from home and god only knows why they played him as a forward.

If you give him an extra two years on 300k I doubt he says no.

He'll have gone from playing in the VFL to a guaranteed 4 years on an AFL list.

He's still getting his 1.7 million dollars owed to him plus another 600k on top.

I'll be surprised if whoever gets him doesn't do this to be honest. He'll end up on close 600k a year.

The question is more whether it should be allowed to happen - renegotiating a contract mid contract.

I really hope so. We invested quite a bit in him. Took him injured. Be a waste otherwise. Forget us, I hope he’s doing it for himself.

For years I have thought to myself we need a Joel Selwood type player. Haven’t necessarily been a fan as an opposition supporter….ducking etc. But always thought I’d love it if he played for us.

So I wondered when we were getting our Joel Selwood. Think we might have him now. Windy. If he’s out there leading the way with preseason training early and others are following….. older guys. Well that is just great.

He would go some way to match Selwood in terms of achieving and that’s not really going to happen. But we need someone to naturally lead by way of example. All very encouraging.

Yeah there are some similarities there, like Selwood he looks like a natural leader that is mature beyond his years and can drag other players with him.

Bytel to Norf for a future priority pick.

Long, & Norfs future 2nd to GC for Bowes, 7 & 25.

Draft the best mid at 7 (whoever slides out of McKenzie/Phillipou), Elijah Hewett at 9, Oli Hotton a chance to slide to 25, and Charlie Clarke at 28.

Definitely better than using Pick 9

There's a million areas of the club that we can improve without JDG.
We could start with when defenders are switching the ball 35 metres across defence it doesn't bounce before reaching the recipient.
And carry on from there. Start sheparding for the ball carrier. Talking to the ball carrier. Not picking when to two-way run. Etc.

We have more than a few area's to improve in - one is toughen up , the other is don't go missing for most of the game and a lot of our senior players do that.
This season imo only Sinclair , Crouch , Wilkie and Steele gave the effort required for a season.

If we can get the other 18 players to stand up for most of the season we will do far better than 10th.

Now Ryder has pulled the pin , Marshall goes back to be the full time follower which he excelled at before Ryder came.
Gresham getting a full season under his belt in the midfield will only get better this season.
King will get stronger and better and if only these 3 put in good seasons with the 4 mentioned above we will be far better.

Of course you need more players standing up , but having a core of good players performing each week our game plan might actually work.

Next season even before we bring in any players through trade and the draft we will have hopefully 2 players coming back into the fold in Hayes and Coffield , we also had players who basically didn't fire a shot in Zac Jones and Clark who had seasons to forget.

Rance , Eric McKenzie sucked when they were young players
