One of the higher ups at the VFL was a Hawthorn supporter and shifted the zones in Hawthorn's favour, the VFL was as corrupt then as the AFL is now.

The shift in zones coincided with Hawthorn going on to have all that premiership success in the 70s and 80s while St Kilda wallowed in the doldrums.

There's a million areas of the club that we can improve without JDG.
We could start with when defenders are switching the ball 35 metres across defence it doesn't bounce before reaching the recipient.
And carry on from there. Start sheparding for the ball carrier. Talking to the ball carrier. Not picking when to two-way run. Etc.

Stop just kicking down the line to no one, stop bombing the ball on Kings head, stop playing all the players in defensive half of the ground……

Schache for me. As you say, won't cost much but has enough forward craft to have an impact either by himself or freeing up King a bit more.

How often he plays would depend on how Jack Hayes recovers.

Hayes has played 5 games and might take some time to regain form after the knee or even just one a flash in the pan type player. Sharman's form up forward was average at best last season, so much we went with Owens playing as a forward over him in the last few games.

Neither have done enough or shown enough as players for us to be going into next year putting all our stocks in them without any other options in case of injury or form.

I can’t remember who it was against could’ve bernFreo but we were like actively being slow with the footy to the point the crowd was losing it. IIRC once we started taking the game on we looked ok.

And Melbourne. We let them get us completely ****ed on the score board then decided to play like we didn't care any more and did well for the second half.

We played well when the game was over, it’s our specialty. We even finished the year that way. I think that’s why some fans get sucked into “oh we’re not really that far off” because we come back when the other team stops. We’re miles off it and I don’t see it changing with this coaching staff.

Or get Ethan Phillips who is already playing very well in the VFL. Should be a plug and play KPB. To me we don't need any more mid sized in-betweeners. We need a back up or replacement for Howard.

Bob Murphy said that he thinks that fans get shitty with Schache because he's a HFF or HBF in a ruckman's body. He says he can't play KP but his coaches keep making the mistake of trying to turn him into one. He suffered from what Wood did at North. He's athletically gifted, can run and mark and kick but stand him under the ball in a contest and he's total shit.

If we want a forward ruck Ratta or Weed make more sense. Schache could be a handy addition for another role. Perhaps even Ratts giant wingman or something but he's not going to fill a need as ruck/forward.
