We shouldn't be willing to trade Clark for anything less than a first rounder.

I doubt North will give that up for him so he'll probably stay with us which I'd be happy with as he still has a lot of upside if he can get himself fit.

Why do the Gold Coast and Port players get credited with improvement or being 'elite talents' while none of our equivalent players do?

Look's like you don't think much of our players - we dropped off after the bye shockingly for sure , but when you lose Steele and even Howard , Gresham for the last remaining games against top 4 teams it doesn't help.

People on here give it to Howard , but when he never played round 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 we were badly exposed - so the addition of Cordy should be a big upgrade on Joyce.

It also was not helped by players going missing , which has to be fixed but we have upside that people , don't rate.

Coffield , Jack Hayes , Hunter Clark - have not fired a shot due to bad injuries and just having these will give us added depth.

Guy's like Billings and Jones missed the best part of the year and will surely improve next season and then we look at the improvement in the young guys like Sharman , Windhager , Owens , Milera being another season bigger and stronger.

Higgins is a small forward who kicks goal's and the first one we have had since Milne , if he never copped the head knocks his season would of been very impressive.

Marshall goes back as the lone ruckman that he excels at.

Gresham get's his 2nd season under his belt which should or could take it to even a higher level.
Max King our 22yr old who just kicked 52 goals and 41 points , only has to convert a little bit better and we win more.

Apart from all this we only had really 4 players who gave a good account the whole season - Steele , Crouch , Sinclair and Wilkie , so we add another 2 or 3 players to that list and we will be on our way to where we want to be.

On top of all of this we go to the draft with all our picks a first for a while.

Let it be known DeGoey would of fast tracked us to top 4 , but we have the talent to lift far higher than were we currently are and we are far from last atm.

See this kind of s**t really grinds the gears. Culture is driven by players.
Case in point Geelong. They have past players willing and wanting to give back to the club and further that building of 'culture'.
How many of our past players want to do that?

This isn't a dig at you Stav. I just find that so many of our past players instead of wanting to help, and BJ is different as he went to the Don's, want to snipe from the sidelines. Was the culture all that good when they were here? Or was it that we were winning everything was roses and things that should have been done didn't.
And if it was that good. Did they do anything to instill that culture in the players that came through the door.

I disagree
Culture is driven by every single person that walks through the doors at Moorabbin. The players have an enormous role in that but so does everyone else.

Imagine if the saints during negotiation for long went you want one of our required players who we believe is entering his prime and his best footy is ahead of him and we have put 6 years and 79 games in the red, white and black we will take King, Anderson or Touk?

What that msg sends the rest of the comp, current and future players, list managers, players agents and the media would be a much stronger msg than what the long trade was.

With our talent on the list and the fact that there isnt a line out the door of players wanting to be traded to the saints apart from Cordy we need to be winning every trade and by a high margin in straight sets increasing our draft hand to acquire more high end talent

We would be laughed at and told to piss off and come back when we grow up.....

Not sure using the argument we were 8-3 is a good enough argument.

It’s pretty easily countered with 3-8.

Ultimately we are a middle of the road club.

There was room in the cap for A SINGLE BIG DEAL.

It was set up for Bing.

Now ultimately. You can save it and go after say, Anderson.

But there are 2 issues. If he doesn’t come. We are in the same situation as now.

And

We have effectively ruled ourselves out of the race for pick 7 which actually hinders our ability to meet our draft strategy as outlined by Walsh if we actually find a target who wants to come and needs to be traded for I.e Noah Anderson

Our own list managers and new experienced footy boss have both stated we need more elite talent
Our longest serving captain has stated we need more talent
We need more a grade talent and also dramatic improvement from the players mentioned whilst Nas, owens and windhager continuing on the right trajectory

Some of our ex players like Riewoldt, Montagna and Goddard are happy to just stay in cushy media jobs rather than get their hands dirty with coaching.

At least Dal Santo put his hand up to coach our AFLW team along with his cushy media job.

Agree with this, Riewoldt would be an elite coach. He choose the ‘easy’ path in the media. Always thought choosing challenge was more his style. He needs to be a saints coach.

The best players do not always make the best coaches.
Being a superstar player himself, I dont believe he would have that common touch enabling him to necessarily deal with players (the majority of whom would be) far less talented than he was.

Can’t see it personally.
