Player wise, all that is left is the broken Whitfield, the off field issues Hunter and then your into the mid 20s failed to live up to their potential types like Weideman.

Outside of that, you are hoping we strike gold with 3 top 30 picks. Which let’s face it, are bang ******* Average looking at the hands of a few others.
Surely they’d be considering using a future pick to try and trade up?

A lot of the NSW players don't come from the Sydney area.
People Albury and North ( Grass roots footy country ) of there probably don't relate to Sydney much, and have grown up watching and supporting Melbourne teams.

GWS is just as alien to them as it is to us and the people who live in West Sydney.
Yah I understand that. I live in the Riverina.

But if you are drafting all these boys that have grown up and played footy together rather than letting them go to other clubs, you are building a culture.

You still might lose a few but they will at least feel a part of something rather than just a footy factory that picks every 2nd player when it suits them

Most people in the Riverina would relate to Sydney just as much as Melbourne. While the Giants don't have a big following the Swans definitely do so getting to Sydney isn't the worst thing

Bit of a smokescreen to be honest. So what do you call getting Cordy then if no more major top ups?

Gags, Lethers and co said 2022 was our window... after 2021 was meant to be. We havent got alot to bargain with and players don't see us as a quality destination at the moment.

Gonna be hard to get to the draft and get quality with limited picks.
Cordy cost nothing except a salary so small the Bulldogs didn’t even get a compo pick for him. Hardly a major top up but back up in a position of need.

No reason we cannot be using future picks to improve our draft hand. I’d be prepared to risk that now instead of waiting another year.

You have this weird obsession with points, they mean nothing. Obviously they have a better draft hand than us but it's not because they have more points.

And where are Richmond finding 2 more top 19 picks for this year? GWS definitely in the box seat though, can 100% see pick 1 being traded to them.
The afl uses the points system to determine fair compensation for free agency, father ons and academy players
When you say they have a better draft hand because of picks I agree im saying according to the afl points system it's currently 4000 points higher than ours currently sitting at 7000
Or very close to 2022, 2023 and perhaps 2024 drafts (because we have won the premiership 😆)

Our pick 45 looks like going up 6 spots at the moment

The 2nd rounders 2 spots

Makes me wonder if it's worth trading up?

Trading the two 2nd rounders (28 and 32) for 20 for example only really gets you up 6 spots instead of 8

Most draft experts are saying the top 30 is pretty good but then there's a drop off

Love what your saying here fwiw, but neither of the the feline clubs were playing anywhere near their best when we beat them. Having said that they still had to be beaten.
Yes they were. Both led us by 4 goals and we ran over the top of them.
Went back and watched Saints v Geelong and while they were nearly unstoppable near end of season, they were playing good football.
Our football was anything but putrid and unwatchable.
It is those blatantly indefensibly stupid comments that make this forum sound like a Facebook nuffies page.

GWS would offer 3, 18 and 19. North would want 3, 13, 15

Probably settle on 3, 13 and 19.
13 and 19 for Clark.

9, 13, 19, 27, 32, 45 + Cordy

Less Long and Clark.

If that is our trade outcome, Cartwheels

But it means nothing when you don't have any of those. Which St Kilda and GWS don't. I can understand that they have a great draft hand without looking at the points though.

But I'd rather pick 4 than picks 17+18 most years even though they're close to equal in points.
Fingers crossed for 2024 hopefully

If he leaves I think it will be only to north and they won’t be parting with 2 firsts.

* GODDARD, * LLOYD and RAPHAEL CLARKE as well.
It's quite obvious what GODDARD's definition of Culture is by the way he chooses to kick his former clubs when they're down just to enhance his media career.
GOODDARD'S is the culture of one.... Him!
I loved GODDARD at the SAINTS.. Particularly when he struggled so much at the start... People at the time wanted him out but the SAINTS persisted.... Yet he can't extend the same gratitude despite his unfortunate finish at ST KILDA .. He'd be naught if we hadn't seen the possibilities and persisted. He owes us... Not the other way round.

I'm not even sure what culture actually is inside the club. We probably do lack culture but guys leaving the club instead of seeing in the next generation are part of the cause of it. Lack of common purpose, relaxed attitudes to winning and training, poor buy in etc. Of course clubs that are off the peloton have poor culture. Win stuff and all of a sudden you over flow with it.

I'm not upset by him poking us, I think pressure seems to bring out the best in a lot of sides. We seem a bit sleepy so getting a kick might be good.

Is Hayes a good appointment because he is a modern great?

Haven’t heard a thing about other clubs feeling like he is a big miss and he didn’t come with the outside recognition Walsh did.

Worth considering.
Toby Green mentioned recently how much he loved working with Lenny Hayes and how all the boys loved working with him. I think that matters! He walked away from GWS he wasn't let go...

I thought that the Bulldogs didn't get compo because they had got free agent Jones back and it negated any compo? I agree that Cordy is a low risk investment and we need to see him play before making any judgement on him.

Yep. It's amazing that solving the issue of almost a decade of poor drafting isn't easy.

Don’t mind that, was the reference (comparison) to Essendon culture that was ridiculous.

The commitment to unconditional effort is what we're missing.
Even Steele has started games without any intensity whatsoever.
The Essington game in 2021. And the bulldogs game last year. Both appalling.
And he's the best by a mile.
To me, it's the number one issue at the club.
No gameplan can be good enough to manage players who pick and choose their efforts.

More games were lost this year by confused game plans than lack of effort IMO. We looked like we were trying and putting in heaps of effort but not getting results. Lots of games we were Max King and Snags missing set shots off winning games. Having 2 avenues to goal and not much else is straight up coaching.

Lade wasn’t let go either…

Anyway. Proof will be in the pudding.

I just hope this isn’t us building it up because it’s lenny.
