Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

We will not be spending a top 3 pick on a 170cm small forward.

Agreed but if he can start to show midfield ability then things are going to be interesting.

Yeah he can run through the midfield at TAC level, but there will be huge doubts as to whether he can do it at AFL level. He will be an interesting case study.

Closest comparison IMO of what to expect in regards to height potentially holding him back is Daniel. As a junior he played forward of centre with some stints in the middle and showed he could definitely get the pill.

Talent wise he should have gone top three. Superb athletically with speed, agility, endurance and add to that he has sublime skills and decision making. The only knock is his size and there's not much you can do about it.

If Daniel was 15cm taller and 10kgs heavier he'd be a superstar.

I know, at TAC level.

What about at that size in the AFL?

That's the big unknown. But he has everything but the height...

Speed - elite
Spring - elite
Agility - elite
Ball winning - elite
Skills - very good
Evasion - elite
Goal sense - elite
Endurance- ???
Height - sub-optimal.

He looks to be a better small forward pre-draft than Cyril and I'd use a top 3 pick on Cyril all day

Cyril was bigger and much stronger, which made him possibly the best tackler of the last 20 years.

Can't see Watson hauling down bigger players at AFL level, I think they'll run through him.

I'm still unconvinced he can be a ball winner in an AFL midfield. His skills take a hit when he takes contact, as you would expect, but if he gets worried by 18 year old string beans he will be battered into the ground by AFL midfielders. Skills wise he's brilliant around goals but burns teammates and can get under it a bit when the distance stretches beyond 25m. I just can't see him as an AFL midfielder, and for all his flash I think Archer, Harley, and Curtain are better players.

He's got campaigner in him.

We need that.
I watched the whole game should have kicked a 70+ meter goal after wining it from a ball in on the wing, but his team mate touched it before it went through, then nearly toke 2 strong marks All while “resting” in the forward line. Destroyed everyone in the midfield it was almost comical how good he was, 50% better than the next best on the field, a tassie kid that will probably go top 10. We need to play kids all year to get this bloke. He’s the type of player no mater what game you play you’re a chance to win cause you have him in your side and others don’t.

I watched the Pioneers vs Devils game today. Reid is just a class above. He nearly scored from 70 metres away after winning the ball and accelerating from a contest on the wing, as mentioned by Hawk Vision, but sadly, his teammate barely touched it. The truth is that any team could draft and play Reid as a forward or defender, not even a midfielder. He's just that good. Colby McKercher, who is a top 10 or at least in the best 15 prospects, couldn’t even come close to holding the mantle as BOG despite having an impressive game. With this kid, you just need to see one disposal of his and you're in love.

Reid is the most complete player I have seen since Hodge

Reid had 25 and 2.0 apparently
Mark him down for 3 his team mate cost him 1. Just shows how bad stats are, felt like he had 50 given how much damage his does with each possession. He got 3 clearances very quickly out of the centre in the 2nd quarter, which all resulted in goals. His score involvements would have been enormous.

Im assuming we will have the first or second pick this season in the mid season draft…

Who do the draft ‘experts’ think could be on hawks radar?!

Is there a key foreward out there we could give a chance to?

A few that I’ve seen mentioned by other posters and have been keeping track of their stats:
  • Ryan Maric (Gippsland)
  • Toledo Gladman (Dandenong)

Have also seen Indi Kirk (brett kirks son) who’s playing for Sydney academy and I’d assume is eligible.
