Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Delean & Lorenz touted as a first round pick last year, one of them would be worth a shot!
Zakotelsky has shown late development. Close to the best athletic profile in it. Played as an undersized ruck but has big potential as a KPD stopper. He's the one for me

Ask yourself why does it have to be club specific? Why can't the AFL run everything? Let's be real the only exist to make competitive Northern clubs and nothing else.

Because they are shit at running stuff.

Or make it open slather but give the northern clubs a cash bonus based on where the player gets drafted, as well as some salary cap concessions (extra 2% per player drafted elsewhere for a period of 3 years for example). Top 5 pick gets the highest cash bonus amount, first rounder outside this slightly less, second rounder slightly less and so on. All four of those clubs love being on the money teat so there is still an incentive for them to keep those kids. They also know far more about the less rated kids who could come on a bit so still have a competitive advantage over clubs when it comes time to drafting. However, struggling clubs who should be using the draft as equalisation which is the SOLE purpose of the draft get access to the best players accordingly.
Good suggestion, it's probably the fairest.

The sooner more kids are drafted from the northern states, the better. So for mine, it's good the suns academy is starting to be productive. Need Brisbane's academy to pick up.
Personally I'd prefer a reverse approach whereby the 1st round (ideally 3 rounds) are state based and an open start after that. Curtin stays in WA, Reid in Vic etc. We're already talking about Reid & Curtin heading home. Cerra was the same. Completely blows the trade mechanisms though (ie becomes a strictly FA model with no compensation)

Simple solution for academy and father son picks.

1. Father Son gets first priority over academy.

2. You can trade picks 12 months out but you have to nominate your player prior to the current draft period and then use your next available pick as part of matching.

3. No discounts for 1st round matching northern academy picks.

What advantage is the MCG, there's no home crowd advantage which makes up the majority of a home ground advantage. How many upsets have occurred? Hawthorn were the best team 2013-15, so were Richmond 17-20. Bulldogs winning over Sydney is the only one and thats not even their home ground.

Sleeping in your own bed in your own house the night before a game like that is pretty useful. Beats a hotel.

That said, I agree with your all your comments re the academies. They are great for the game but the priority access is a rort. The AFL running them makes the most sense. These clubs are spending AFL coin on them anyway.

I cannot see T. Jiath making it to pick 40 ?
We're already at 29. Still a fair few players to be picked up that didn't go last night as expected.

Though, I'm not sure we need Tew. Pick up Dear and maybe Phillips and that'd be it I reckon.

What the hell am I missing with Mitch Edwards doggo references?

Is it low or just business when these coaches like Clarko waste the time of Curtin’s just to try and call West Coasts bluff?

North were never picking Curtin with picks 2 or 3.

Supposedly north offered 2 x picks in the teens last night to try get GWS's pick to get Curtin but they wanted to stay top 10 so went with Crows instead.

We also offered our future first as did West Coast.

Yep we did and we tried later but future picks just weren't enough

Eagles wasn't straight F1 trade. Eagles wanted both GWS 1st round picks for F1+23( which is now pick 30).

I assume we offered straight F1 but since GWS didn't agree, i assume ours must have been a variation as well.

Not fussed if we miss Tew, ideally he slides completely and is cat B rookie.

Would prefer if we approach the Eagles, Lions, Cats, Saints, Tigers who have next few picks with trades involving our pick 46 + F2(pies). If that isn't enough Even a mix of swap of F1's and F2's.

Would like to get one of Archer Reid/Logan Morris or ZZ.

If none of this works, then take Freijah or Lorenz if they slide to our pick 46

Still surprised by it. Reckon they will regret it in 12 months time when they see what they knocked back.
Naah they had a plan to pick the players they wanted this year. They got those two players 12 months down the track there will be no regret.
