Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

He wouldn’t be anywhere near a want for us

We aren’t looking for a intercept 3rd tall defender , we are actually pushing one out ( Doedee)

So Redman isn't an intercept 3rd tall defender ....and we aren't looking for that player type

Get out of this one Jeff .....cause you "wanted" Redman

A lot of the angst comes from Adelaide supporters massively overrating Brad Crouch and the market for a player like Crouch

The market for key defenders is dire which is why McKay is being offered more money than a relatively easy to obtain midfielder like Crouch
So a top 20 midfielder in the comp is relatively easy to obtain, gee, if its that easy why haven't we traded for more.
Instead we picked up Tyler Brown

Agree, next years draft is one I have been looking forward to for a while. I really hope we can arm ourselves with some good picks.
That's the frustrating thing about this year, we have a heap of good 2nd rounders in a shallow draft
We constantly seem to be in the wrong draft at the wrong time

Then...

If they want to lose his salary, sure. He's handy depth, but I'd like the trade to include something for us that helps us as a thanks for taking the salary off their books.

No one is taking Haynes with out a very nice gift coming with him. Bowes (given age) much better value.

Lethlean and the AFL. I not saying it happened. Just that it seems a bit on the nose

Exactly, we don't need to be propped up financially.

Remember the AFL went affer Dean Bailey and not Schwab because Schwab's name was on Melbourne's poker machine licenses and they feared chasing him could jeopardise that income

Look I never believed Crouch was worth pick 2. Had we finished mid table though I doubt there would've been much of a fuss.
The last point is probably true. But they still can't really invent compo if the salary isn't close to demanding it.

We're on the bottom rung of importance to the AFL, along with St Kilda, Port, Fremantle and a couple of others. Middling clubs with little commercial relevance or influence to the league, not located in a priority or growth market, and not reliant on AFL handouts to be competitive.
No we're not.

They care about us and West Coast because of what we mean to the league's financial results. They mildly care about Port and Freo, though your point is truer there. St Kilda, North Melbourne etc? Probably the least.

Except every piece of evidence we see year in and year out absolutely disputes this statement.

They literally GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to hinder us and as long as our club’s leaders stay quiet like the good little mice that they are, it will continue.
We think that, but it's mostly untrue.

Every single BigFooty board is full of supporters that think the AFL is targeting them. We can't all be true.

There are biases, sure - like there is with everything.

But it's largely disinterest, and having other priorities.

The only people actively trying to hinder us are those on the Crocmedia payroll.

???…you seriously cant be that naive..

They certainly can.. when the “secret herbs and spices” formula they use to assign the levels of compo isnt made public, isnt given to the clubs (so they cant rort it) and can be adjusted as they please depending on whether or not they think its a justifiable compensation or not..

And on top of this the players exact salary isnt made public either.

When they have all the control… They can invent whatever bullshit they like.

Correct, the "subjective variable" in their formula, allows the AFL to do as it pleases.

There is no accountability.

Mostly can't bag anybody as his contract says he must be fairies and rainbows or the AFC might be sanctioned

That doesn't make sense.

Clubs ARE offering McKay $800k and they didn't offer it to Crouch.

They might be wrong but they're genuinely doing it.

Not sure we know what’s being offered, but crouch was a few of years ago now. We forced him out because we thought we were def getting juicy band 1 compo

What has changed other than general wage inflation, is that Ben McKay (meh on stilts) is signing into new CBA with a 37% average cap increase

The raw numbers don’t compare without accounting for those years and increases

How many times have you misread the type of player that Redman is ???

He’s a running half back metres gained player in the Brodie smith mould / style …. Yes he’s also a good intercept mark but that’s not the main list need . Need Was more as a long term Brodie smith run / carry player

Luckily Hinge has really stepped up and become that metres gained type so I’m not as fussed as I was that we missed Redman

In terms of intercept marking 3rd tall defenders we have Worrell and Max that can also play smaller and taller and Hinge is also handy in this area

Running half back metres gained types

Hinge Milera Nank Smith Parnell ( depth ) - looks ok now that hinge and Nank have shown plenty
