Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Really surprised we didn't at least throw out hat in the ring for Hollands. Given what he is being traded for, it could have been done easily and without much risk.
I know he hasn't set the world on fire, but surely you back your group in to bring the best out in what was a talented kid.

No list spots

Kosi has more family in WA (Boulder), only moved over to SA and lived with his Uncle Byron for a couple of years to further his football aspirations/schooling. Much the same with Zac Bailey (Darwin).
Played League, reserves and U18 in 2018/19 for WWT. His mother was in WA when she passed in 2021.

Depends on how highly they do or don't rate him. No point bringing in a player they don't think is any good, and doesn't have scope for significant improvement.

Cross him off the list then

They could always create a list spot, if they really wanted to (by delisting a contracted player, with a view to re-signing them to the rookie list as a DFA). It's quite clear that Adelaide has little, if any, interest in Hollands.

We already have to do that twice just to take our three draft picks. Seems unlikely we'd do it a third time to fit Hollands

They see more value in Sloane over Hollands I guess??

No, we don't.

We've lost McAdam, Hately, McAsey, and Doedee off our senior list. Burgess is the only addition. That leaves 3x vacancies, which is sufficient to meet the AFL's mandatory 3x ND selections. One of these vacancies will be filled by Murray, noting that his upgrade counts towards the minimum 3x ND selections.

As things stand, we do not need to make any further changes to our senior list, between now and the ND. I suspect they will do the delist/DFA to rookie list thing with 1x player, to allow us to use all 3x 1st round selections, maybe 2x players if the AFL doesn't change the MSD rules (forcing us to upgrade Parnell).

There is no AFL mandated requirement for us to delist any further players.

Parnell?

A - I mentioned the possibility of doing the delist/DFA route, to create a vacancy for him.
B - We (the general public) still don't know if he will need upgrading.
C - Upgrading him counts towards the AFL's mandatory minimum 3x ND selections, so upgrading him doesn't alter our ability to meet the AFL's mandated requirements.

Come on Vader, we aren't going to sacrifice pick 14 and pick 20 in the draft because we are upgrading Murray and (with no confirmed changes to list management rules) Parnell.

So yes, like I said, to use our picks at the draft right now we have to delist two senior listed players

Sacrifice, as in forfeit, no.
Trade them to move further up the draft order, or move them to 2024? Very possible.

Assuming we want to make 3x ND selections AND we need to upgrade Parnell. Neither of which are great assumptions to be making at this stage.

Those are all hypotheticals

As it stands right now, with our draft hand and the current known rules, if we wanted to bring in Hollands we'd need to delist three contracted senior listed players

If Parnell stayed on the rookie list, it'd still mean delisting two contracted players.

We could get that down to one by having the rules changed in our favor, delisting a contracted player and trading a pick out of the draft. Which wouldn't be an issue if we had list spots

We have all the list spots we need, and Elijah Hollands was not a need (or even a want).

In August they said they weren’t targeting anyone (that is, by that time in previous years we already knew we were getting Dawson and Rankine). Unless someone was knocked out of the trade tree, we weren’t expecting to be active.
Yes, they said that in August after not landing their targets and they still went for Petty and Oliver and didn’t land one.

I know, we chose to target players with 2 or more years on their contracts, do you consider that a wise choice?
Do you have a list of the players we should have targeted? I guess we could have got Chol. Who was a target. The club failed in that. After all, all they had to do was to offer him a 6 year deal at $800k per year. I'm sure that would have convinced him. One other failure we can attribute to the club.

Surely Nicks is quietly seething with the incompetence of Reid and co. Next year is make or break for his coaching career and he has lost 2 quality senior players who would have helped him make the 8. None of Burgess or the handful of picks will make any difference to the 2024 end result.

Enjoy your farewell tour Nicksy. Dead Man Walking.
