Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Is it? When was the last time we went out publicly and said we wanted to keep a player and we’re still trying to change his mind

I can’t recall ever?

Maybe my memory is going (and I’ll not argue too hard) but I’ve never seen us do this

We’ve been sitting on that F2 since about midway through last week - how were we holding out for what we already had; and publicly rejected?

We said it wasn’t enough last week
Charlie Cameron - though I don't really know how hard.

Adelaide wanted McAdam to be a part of a trade for Petty. Melbourne were saying last week they'd be seperate trades.

Edit: I thought the definitive F2 was offered on Monday?

Both can be true

Statement 1 is questioning the vision

Statement 2 is questioning the execution
Yes.

But if it's a bad idea, maybe not executing it might turn out to be a positive. Serendipitous good list management.

I don't know that it was a bad idea. My impression is that they were looking at having a red hot crack while Tex is still performing.

I'm not convinced Butts is the FB we need to win a cup

There is never any excuse for failing to execute

If you can’t even execute your plans, what’s the point of having any plans at all

Gotta be closing
Not an excuse for anything, just might be a better outcome despite/because of the clubs incompetence.

Not defending the club. If the plan is bad, it's lucky they couldn't pull it off.

If it's a good idea, not doing it right is indeed a **** up. I am just unsure whether we should be spending all our assets on mature players yet. I think the club may have overstated the end of the rebuild.

Oh it might be fortuitous, sure, but it’s very bad if you can’t implement your ideas

After all, we’re not talking about the wisdom of 1 or 2 specific ideas, we’re talking about all of them - the whole suite of options busting

I was only focusing on the fortuitous outcome.

this sounds like a bit of bed wetting to me

everyone seems to feel the need to trade, just to be seen to be doing something

let’s be brutally honest

this trade period as a whole has been so underwhelming

it’s been nothing more than role or fringe players moving clubs and in the process being way over priced by there current clubs

there has been no big name trades like Dawson on Izak to Adelaide, it’s been underwhelming right across the comp

let’s just cool our jets and not feel like we need to be trading just to be seen to be active

We lost two best 22 players so we went backwards. We didnt get better. We didnt improve our best 22.

Lord (and this board) knows that I am not a big Doedee fan, but we didnt replace him. Same with McAdam.

The net result of this period is a loss.

Hopefully we can salvage a ready made stud from pick 10.

Chill. We are about to get 3 players who can make an immediate impact. Plus we hopefully get Taylor on deck. We will be better longer term. We didnt sell our soul for trash players out of panic to fill the positions we lost.

This.

If Lachie Schultz is classed as the best player traded in this year's period, then this is an extremely underwhelming trade period with not many players able to be moved on.

Not a great look for the AFL who want to see more player movement.

I am tipping that most of the players that were traded this year will quickly become their new Club's whipping boys in the near future.

Today's trades?

Because 3 draftees are not immediate starters

Organic growth?

I've seen Cook, Dowling and now Taylor all promoted as 1st team players - is this in 2024?

We will be better long term. You'd rather us sell our soul for fringe players? thats all that was available. Not sure what you want?
I want to know who the 3 immediate starters are

Worrell, Gollant replace them with ease

Come on man, Usually top 20 players almost always will play at some point next year.

But in your hyperventilating for trades heed a lesson from Port who have done nothing but trade in missing pieces for the last decade and have only 3 final wins to show for it. Sometimes the draft is better than quick fix trading. So relax. Not like we don't have the draft picks.

Im not hyperventilating

The person suggesting 3 top 20 picks will make an immediate impact is - I mean you even dialled it back and said they will play at least 1 game - I doubt that also and I doubt they make an immediate impact

The club who said they would bring someone in must be also hyperventilating

I dont care about what Port have done - but my 2c - sometimes they win mostly they miss but at least they swing - so dont make this about what Port do - make it about what we dont do

Organic growth is a slow burn process of only replacing the old with the new - buy new plants every now and then

It’s a club stated objective that we would be bringing in experienced players at this stage of our rebuild. So take it up with the club.

Have we not gone backwards in term of experienced quality players on our list, yes or no?

We clearly stated we didn’t want to get younger and were targeting high end talent.

We clearly have tried (Day,Redman, Petty and unknown others) and failed to achieve that during this year

I took it to mean we had someone locked in

Dawson and Rankine?

Can't get them every year. Who was available that we were too inept to get? It's one thing to go shopping and another to have the product on the shelf.

Face it, no one worth buying at exorbitant prices was available. No big name players were traded. So is every club a failure. Or is it just Adelaide because we demand a big fish every year.

This is true, but even with a switch to experience, you don't want the club buying C grade trash just because no one was available.
