Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Because - on the off chance this has legs - I think there is a genuine case that adding Cox now could push us into being a big contender in 2024. After all, the game for next year is fixing our defense and this is a big upgrade on all of our key defenders. Not only that, but we've built a counter-attack identity and Cox should suit that to a tee being a reliable one-on-one player, strong aerially and a reliable field kick. Factor in that putting in very good players into the line-up is the quickest way to improve a sector and that our main defenders are young as well means this addition could have more bang-for-buck influence then just adding a really good player.

As to why we should push our chips to the table if he's available? The first reason is we need to be looking at making the most of Dawson as he looks every bit of that elite midfielder teams need to go deep. The other major one is the league is in a transitional phase at the moment. Plus, the elephant in the room is this does not look like a draft where we'll be able to fix our inside midfield issues - not in time to match up with Dawson at any rate. So if you were angling to begin an all-in push, honestly, it doesn't look like a bad place to start.

blowing big assets on a single year flag push in 2024 would be stupidity. When we did it for Gibbs we thought he had 4 years left and we had just played in a GF. And even then lots of people thought we paid too much. Now we're dumping big value picks for the benefit of only 2024. Weird that anyone would be behind this.

Update on the Brennan Cox intel I was given, seems with Pick 4 being gettable thats where most of the focus is aimed at, along with the potential Hayward deal
Towards end of trade period depending on how our cards play out (eg. Burgess as cover) and what future draft collateral we end up with we may still pull the trigger this year with a future first etc..
Otherwise he'll come as a RFA next year 100%
😆

And what part of that counters the "seems like a meh trading period all round"?
The problem is your expectations, which are largely based on a desire to be entertained. It's not as if the club has done anything whatsoever to raise expectations.

The club has openly said that their high quality targets for this year decided to re-sign with their existing clubs, and now we're just looking for backup KPDs. If you have expectations for anything else, then the fault lies with you - not with the club.

Siri, show me someone who doesn’t understand that professional sports is literally entertainment

Oh Vader, I wonder if you’ll form part of the covid inquiry and the risks of cruising during a pandemic.

Back to topic, we are in a rebuild. The club on more than occasion has stated the strategy has been to hit the draft and bring in quality players. It has said this is the stage when we will focus on bringing in quality players and less on the draft. That’s their plan, their strategy. It sounds like that’s not going to happen which means a key plank of their rebuild won’t be happening. So somehow in your brain you think the problem is with the supporters who have listened to the club and not with the club who have failed in their strategy?

The amusing thing is the confidence in which you post, such arrogance for such silly opinions.

Again, it's the words used, and the interpretation you've applied .....a focus on topping up the list with specific roles, does not = strategy

We've had a desire to boost the midfield ...however if the players are not available at our Draft position, what are you going to do, take a big stretch on a player, just to fill a role ?

We did that with Gallucci

With trading, there's got to be a player available for the role you need filled .....that's why it's called focus rather than strategy
Of course you could do a PORT and over-pay for Esava & co .....all unproven ....then I guess you could call Port a success (I wouldn't)

Has anyone been able to access the Herald Sun article that looks like it mentions Himmelberg moving to the Giants?

Anyone one here that looks good to pursue.
Burgess won the goal kicking.
Jarrod Lyons won the Liston Medal.
