Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

Anyone one here that looks good to pursue.
Burgess won the goal kicking.
Jarrod Lyons won the Liston Medal.

That Jarryd Lyons kid sounds promising. Should keep an eye on him.

I can't see us getting Pick 4 but I can see Gold Coast reselling the 1st Round Picks they receive. Say Dogs Pick 10 & 17/18.
Yep..

if we get beaten to pick 4 by the bulldogs we should be trading our next years first and a couple of seconds to them for 10 and 17/18..

9, 10 and 17/18 would be pretty good.

scholl doesn't tend to hold out emerging talent.
Yep..

sholl spent most of the last half of the season in the SANFL..

cant really classify that as list clogging..

unlike murphy, who got picked week after week over the more talented youth.. and still dished up shite.

True, it could actually be a three way trade, haven't worked it out exactly but we'd get 10 for a couple of seconds, GC get a future WB first plus those seconds, WB get 4, not sure about 17, needs a bit more.

He's pick 14 or 15 in the phantoms. Did Mutineer say once you get past the top 5 or 6 there's not much different in quality in the next 10 players?
He's somewhere between 10 and 15 - I think at our pick we should be able to get the third or fourth best mid, which is good. I like the look of Windsor too; only seen highlights but he seems very clean.

I can’t get my head around how any trade for GCs pick 4 doesn’t include a 2024 first.

It’s a waste of time GC trading for later 2023 picks when they are going to get eaten up in point matching, same nett result.

Media saying Bulldogs are in front with 10/17 is pure fantasy.

Ok, I have an interesting trade scenario.

We have 2 x seconds and get 2 x seconds from Doedee and McAdam.

We trade a good second and bad second with Port for their future first, they use the seconds on Ratugolea and Zerk-Thatcher.

We trade the other two seconds and Ports future first for pick 4 plus Burgess.

We still have our future 1st and pick 9.

They have to plan for possibly a lot of point matching this year - possibly having to match 2 top-5 pick bids, another maybe mid r1 pick bid (and I seem to recall they may have even more players they might have to match bids for - I don't think any club has had to try to do this before.

Now a couple of early r2 picks can be combined to match a top-5 pick so maybe they need something like 6 or more early r2 picks to match bids on their players.

OTOH, unless the AFL are changing the rules (again!), the number of picks clubs can take into draft night depends on how many free lists spots they have at the time, so I can see GC taking high value picks into the draft and trying to arrange to trade those for r2 picks as live trades**. This means player trades wont be involved in those trades.

**On draft night, that number of free list spots constraint doesn't apply.

Don’t mind this!

As it stands (including pick 4), GCS has enough points from existing picks to likely cover the bids. They'll gain more points from the Hollands, Sharp and Chol trades.

They're pretty fine for points.

Now, strategically they SHOULD still trade 4 as it's too big an asset to use just on points. But equally, they don't just need points from trading it - they need future assets as well.
