List Mgmt. 2023 List Management and Trading (Part 2)

Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Rubbish, of course list management would care unless they are able to procure some much needed tall back up during the trade period especially Murray not being back at the earliest mid season and unlikely to be at the level while he finds his feet again. Where has Elliott said he wants out at this point, it may be his preference but doesn't seem he's unhappy to stay either.
Didn't EH buy a house in Thebarton during the year? Or just a BF rumour?

Who?
O'Brien, Honey and Philp are all out of contract according to footywire?

Edit : O'Brien not out of contract.

Maybe he has something lined up like Hinge?
FORMER top-10 pick Lochie O'Brien is among three players delisted by Carlton.

One of the players they drafted with the picks we gave them for Gibbs.

Why is self explanatory isn’t it? Because we don’t know a damn thing, that’s why!

And the league is very open about how deliberately opaque its determinations are in this area
There's a reason Clarkson has gone public about Norths expectations over compensation for McKay this week

I literally just listed all the things we know.

Top 5% of salaries. We know how many players earn each amount, so we know what 5% is.

We don't know directly what the player earns, but the footy industry will have a really good idea, so the AFL isn't going to want to play silly buggers by much.

If he's nowhere near it, they're not going to fudge. If it's right on the line, they'll push it one way or the other depending on what they feel is the "right result".

Yeah, to bully Essendon into overpaying.
It's weird AF

North have basically been shopping him all year

Media running with how amazing he is .. pick 3 come on down

At least 4 teams nibbling .. 2 drop out .. Hawthorn offer more money, but he chooses Essendon (team he grew up supporting and a reunion with Brad)

New massive changes released by the AFL to the TPP

Clarkson yelling at clouds

All complicated by BZT leaving for the Power

Updated Revealed: AFL players rake in record salaries

Then add 10% for the CBA back pay for 2023.
We have no confirmation of whether the back pay is going to be included in the calculations, though.

I mean, I hope it is for McKay but not for Doedee. :)

Personally , I think they'll look at this list, work out the 5% line, and then consider whether McKay's contract is above that or not - just compare it to the actual contracts.

I'm pretty sure they will compare his new deal to 2024 salaries. 2023 salaries with 10% added is just the proxy for 2024.

The 5% mark HAS to be around $900k.

That is only if the AFL decide to include the uplift in their calculations when determining the compo pick for Mckay. I am sure they will find a way to work it so he gets band 1. They don't need to release any data to justify it so nobody can question the outcome with any certainty.
AFL have already copped a pasting over the three PPs, maybe that package was OTT because they know McKay wont get Band 1.

Will be common knowledge in the industry what McKay's contract is once it's signed, AFL can't dish out Band 1 if it's not in the top 5% or it will come back to bite them.

Gresham $880k anyone?

If Gresham fetches anywhere near $880K, that list manager should hand in their immediate resignation.

McKay isn't worth this money either.

He has - Dodoro!

This is the dodgy deal being talked about to net Saints pick 13 in compo that then gets handed to Essendon for Shiel. The type of dodgy deal the AFL knocked on the head in the Brouch compo

Has $880k been confirmed?

Why in the **** would anyone pay a first rounder for Shiel anyway?

Radio - some of the least informed people about trading and drafting rules and knowledge. It staggers me that they are so ignorant but have a keen audience who then sprout their utterances as fact
Did I not say I heard?
No where did I claim it as fact.

Has $880k been confirmed?
$880k is just $800k plus the guaranteed 10% uplift from the CBA. 6% of contracts were above $800k at the start of the year.

Could move up or down, but suspect it's closer to $900k. Either way, Hawthorn's offer was reportedly $800k to $850 and he is accepting a lower offer from Essendon.
