Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

I think he is worth more, the second Melbourne got from Sydney is a future pick.

We talked up getting a player and to walk away without even getting a minor improvement on existing offer is pretty lame

I think Henry is worth a fair bit more than McAdam and while the F2 from Saints will likely be better than the Melbourne one it’s been about par for course for trades this year

I dunno about hot garbage, seems you've been looking at too many of another posters input to be using such phrases....but I'd much sooner see what we've got with Luke Nankervis, Brayden Cook, Billy Dowling, Zac Taylor, Lachlan Gollant and Hugh Bond rather than bringing in just äny"player that can't get games at other clubs at this point in our rebuild..
Look, not to insult Ralphsmith, but he's exactly the kind of list clogger you shouldn't talk yourself into getting this time of year.

Absolutely no reason to pursue someone who's player 35+ on Richmond's list, considering that they'll probably be bottom four.

If we don't have 3x senior list vacancies, then we won't be able to take #20 into the draft - we would have to forfeit it.

Teams can't take more picks into the draft than they have senior list vacancies.

And the drafts weeks away. That won’t happen that we need to forfeit the pick

Surely that’s no longer the rule with draft night trading?

How can anyone, but a club sycophant, try and claim this trade period is not another complete failure. We've lost two bid bodied, aggressive senior players, who would have been handy come finals, and replaced them with a bunch of picks in an average draft and a SANFL filler who managed only 1 senior game at the 15th placed basket case that is the Suns ("the best 5 possession game I've seen").

For all the supposed wealth this club has the best we can do in our football dept are amateur hacks like Riccutio, Reid, Ogilvie. Has become a hard club for supporters to still admire.

Especially when it’s part of their plan to have brought in players.

Remember Olsens and Silvers comments earlier in the year? They were pretty confident they had a player lined up

With the trade period nearly over
Below are the current out contract players for 2024.

Pedlar and Hinge would be the two I'd be getting done even though I don't think they will leave.

Will Hamill
Sam Berry
Luke Pedlar
Brayden Cook
Ned McHenry
Ben Keays
Lachlan Gollant
Patrick Parnell (R)
Mitchell Hinge
Elliot Himmelberg
Hugh Bond
Taylor Walker
Rory Sloane

Agree 100%.

Depending on how they start 2024, the next tier I would be looking to lock in is Gollant, Cook and Berry.

Tex, one year contract depending on performance.

The rest are expendable.

Other than Tex, Pedlar and Hinge, the others could be delisted tomorrow and no one would blink an eye.

As it sounds like GC happy to move Hollands and Carlton can't make up there mind ,why wouldn't we take a chance with our lowest 20 pick to have a go, as certainly got talent . just seems a decent gamble as good as anybody in draft near our picks .
Like we had a big try for Petty but don't agree in selling farm to do so.
Carlton going to pay a third rounder. Start the car time

Would rather we just took nothing in the end? What actually are you arguing we do differently?

In terms of preference, I’d rather have risked nothing for a final run at retaining him

If we ended up with nothing via the PSD, we’re talking a pick around 40

Neither here nor there

We’re so freaking cashed up, we must have had a fair chance of turning his head back

What did we trade for Dawson again? Pick 14 ish? That'll be one of the best trades in our history the way he's going.

A guy we could’ve gotten for nothing in the PSD

We traded Melbourne’s future first (then 18 as they were premiers) became 14

Arguably we gave away a valuable when we didn’t have to

However, I don’t have an issue with being semi-reasonable in our relationships. You never know when it might come back around and bite you

Disaster of an offseason so far.

Lost two best 22 players and gained nothing in return (so far) that will help us close the gap on the 9 teams that finished above us on the ladder.

this sounds like a bit of bed wetting to me

everyone seems to feel the need to trade, just to be seen to be doing something

let’s be brutally honest

this trade period as a whole has been so underwhelming

it’s been nothing more than role or fringe players moving clubs and in the process being way over priced by there current clubs

there has been no big name trades like Dawson on Izak to Adelaide, it’s been underwhelming right across the comp

let’s just cool our jets and not feel like we need to be trading just to be seen to be active
