Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

With Curtin, if he becomes a defender, where does Petty fit in?

We really need Curtin to become a mid.
Butts will be pretty nervous this morning

Has a 3 year deal doesn’t he?
Doubt Butts is on big money though ....he just needs to knuckle down & improve .....he's been treading water the last 2 years

Could potentially find himself being a depth player ......he's at the crossroads & could go either way

Potentially could become a trading chip in the pursuit of Petty next year if Curtain comes in as advertised?

Why? We didn't draft any key position defenders

Got to start somewhere and a defensive third tall is as easy of an assignment as it gets.

We will never know but after last night you would think the club regrets committing to Borlase so far out.
I doubt it. I think they would have regretted it, if they'd promoted him to the senior list - but I doubt they regret committing to take him as a Cat A rookie.

It's not as if we're spoiled for KPD options, even with the additions of Burgess & Curtin. It's quite likely that Curtin doesn't end up playing many games in defence anyway, given our dire lack of KPFs and his stated desire to play in the midfield.

If he starts his afl games in defence, then you’d hope it’s more a flanker than the 3rd tall.

If he starts as one of the 3 talls, he’ll probably be locked into that position forever

Interesting this ....we committed to Borlaise, believing we were no chance of a Curtin scenario

It's just a 12 month Rookie Contract ....so really no harm, being an insurance policy

I'd hazard a guess and say it just means we don't need to get desperate and play Himmelberg as a KPD.

Himmelberg will struggle for a game .....his opp was as a 2nd Ruck backup to ROB

But I'd play Curtin forward over Himmelberg .....Thilthorpe can be 2nd RUCK

Hammill is still contracted so they'd have to match his salary would they not?
I don't think that's what was intended.

Adelaide has 2 picks in the RD, and has committed to selecting Hamill & Borlase. If we pick Hamill first, that leaves the door open for Port to grab Borlase with their first RD pick. I don't think there's any suggestion of Port selecting Hamill.

In the event that another club does select Hamill, Adelaide would have to pay any difference between the contract he signs with the new club, and his existing contract with the AFC.

I don't think this is correct .....any Club recruiting Hamill, would have to take on his existing Contract

By your comment, if Hamill's Contract is $280K a year .....the new Club could offer a new Contract at $80K, and we'd be liable for the extra $200K

Illogical

So, Curtin gets a 3 year deal, Edwards and Ryan get 2 year deals, correct? From memory it's only the top 20 that now get 3 year deals initially.

Also, we traded our future 2nd, not Melbourne's yesterday, right?
That's what it says here.
