Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Is DGB a bust though?
Hard Ball gets made a good point last week that in his u18s year he dominated as an intercept player whereas Hawks already have that in Sicily. Although that does make him sound quite one dimensional. I think he’d be a great get if Cox leaves.

He would be a great get regardless. Young moving to the midfield opens a spot in defence. He played really well with Chapman.

DGB and Cox as your intercepts, Chapman Pearce and Ryan as your lockdowns, Clarke and walker/Wagner with some speed.

Pearce, Cox, DGB and Ryan can’t all play in the same backline.

Also Clarke hasn’t played for Freo since 2017. It’s Clark.

But why can't the guy get a game with the youngest developing list in the competition. It's like the guy at Gold Coast people keep talking about who's barely played an AFL game in two years.

Between Brodie and Flanders you have to be skeptical of Dew's ability to ID talent. Also reckon Sharp got blacklisted when it became clear he was leaving anyway hence 0 games this year.

Maybe. But you don't want to punt on the bloke who ends up simply not much good, especially when you have your own talented yoof at Peel.

Gold Coast are the weird exception to the rule for me. Like they're a bottom 4 team, but they're the '96 Bulls of the VFL. Seems they've got a deep list but have no idea how to use it or have too much overlap in skillset.

Plus looking at history, Brodie and Lyons off the top of my head are guys they let go for less than nothing.

I think the level of talent of both lists is a bit different too.

Gold Coast always use a ** tonne of high picks and have some pretty decent prospects rotting away at VFL level. As we’ve seen over and over again there’s some very good players traded out for ** all that become best 22 elsewhere. Happens one or two times a season.

Hawthorn have to make the most of the majority of first and second round picks they use otherwise they have almost no chance of being successful. Pretty much like every single other club other than the two most recent expansion sides.

The difference is Stanley and Williams average about 15 and 7 touches for Peel. Sharp averages about 25 for the Suns VFL team. He might not be an A-grader (or he might be - see Docker82 above) but I think his immediate output is likely to be better. We saw how **** we were with Hughes playing wing early this year. I don't want to go back to that.

Brad Hardie low key announced Henry to Hawks on Saturday..posted it on here on the weekend. Would imagine he’s getting filled in by Colon. He will probably be in the know regarding what’s coming back too.

This is all unknowable. But I think it's about upside, not immediate output, and Stanley has plenty of the former. Hughes would get 25 a week playing at Peel but people seem set on him not being best 22 in future.

I'm fine waiting on Stanley and Williams, but our team functions a lot better with an actual winger in it. Sharp is going to cost nothing and I am sure is a much better winger than Hughes. And never mind the future, Hughes is very obviously not a B22 winger right now. He's not even B22 in his actual position.

If Sharp gets overtaken and delisted in 3 years, that's fine.

I think it’s more about next year with Sharp tbh despite his reasonably young age. Or at least that’d be his selling point over the other two. Sharp averaged 20+ disposals in 2021 when Gold Coast actually gave him a chance.

Stanley could easily be ready to a degree next year but might not be.

Williams could be awesome in a few years but realistically a full season on the wing for Peel seniors would be a great result for his development next year.

100%.

I haven't seen Sharp play for a while, but he's got to be better than Hughes, even if just a stop gap. He was a talented junior so it could be a real buy low situation.

If we don't bring someone in we're basically banking on NoD or Stanely smashing pre-season or our ball movement is ****ed again.

I'm not really savvy on the costing of trades and such (the reason why I was all aboard with Jackson from day one because of the footballer he could be). Does Sharp actually cost nothing?

Pretty close to I'd say. Future 4th or pick 60 this year would be my guess. Salary would be near rock bottom as well.

As close to free as you can get. He could even conceivably get delisted and get him for actual free.
