Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Yep. And also how many have we delisted that posters are pissed off about go on to be a mistake. We (the club) mostly get it right and we (the posters) have NFI.

And we only tend to remember and mention the ones we get right and they get wrong.

Actually we'd be almost top of the league for delisted players picked up by other clubs in the last decade. Not sure how many we'd regret as such but other clubs thought they were worth picking up as depth at the very least.

Here's the list off the top of my head since 2015:
Menegola, Barlow, De Boer, Mzungu, Collins, Silvagni, Sheridan, Sutcliffe, Clarke.

I think maybe only Barlow, Collins and De Boer actually pissed people off at the time.

Remember people being really pissed off when we delisted Nyhuis. Haven't heard his name since.

I don't think its fair to name all of them. There was clearly a plan by the hierarchy above Lyon to delist players they knew were good enough to force Lyons hand in to giving games to the youth.

Only Menegola and Collins were bad delistings.

And De Boar IMO, De Pig would have been perfect as a body to protect others and set standards through a rebuild. Played a lot of games for GWS. He's actually probably the biggest mistake IMO. Menegola just took a long time to figure things out and Collins was surplus though you could go through a rabbit hole of maybe backing him in rather than drafting Logue...

Even at the time they weren't really BAD delistings. Both took a couple years in the seconds before another club picked them up. I wanted to keep Collins back then though.

I'd be pretty certain the only reason he leaves is to go to Vic and even that would be a pretty low chance IMO

With respect and before other posters jump on, given Darcy is contracted for next year, even before the ACL there would have been A LOT added on top of MG to get Darcy

We gave a swan song year to Michael Johnson instead of delisting him, instead we delisted Collins.It was stupidity. It was obvious at the time and it wasn’t hindsight bias. It also influenced us drafting Logue. Which ultimately lead to us overlooking the local product in Naughton. The latter a long bow, but it was truly sliding doors.

Don't believe the crap said about us in the media. Darcy is the no.1 ruckman and Jackson is his backup. Nothing will change so no need for Darcy to leave.

Georgiades will be traded for less than people think he's worth after an ACL.

Even before the ACL his lack of time in the seniors was starting to get to the point where North's second rounder would be out of the question.

If we'd back our ability to come good again next year our future second was around the mark imo. If he were to come back into Port's side and play good footy at AFL level that value could've increased. He won't get that opportunity now.

Looked a very very good prospect not all that long ago but seems to have lost his way at AFL level (I'm sure Port fans will blame Hinkley but facts are he wasn't playing) and injury only adds further doubt as to whether he can recover his form.

Decent players coming off long term injuries have been traded for **** all in the past. This has the potential to get ugly for Port if Georgiades leaves (whether to us or somewhere else).

Why does Treacy have to be a ruck? Can he not just be a leading forward.Is it possible that he is not being played to his strengths? Are we Fremantling him ? I'd hate to see the young fella leave because of mismanagement .

Might be preparing him for a Hawkins type rucks at forward stoppages.

Not too many from memory were sad about Menegola going as he'd been on an AFL list for 4 or 5 years and done nothing. There also weren't too many disappointed about Collins either, I was one but was roundly criticized for my view.

I also thought getting rid of Collins was stupid at the time, but with hindsight, Collins is a key player at Suns and he wouldn't be picked over Pearce or Cox. So if still with us, Collins would be playing at Peel, or we would be spending half our time arguing on here about having a slow third tall backman vs a Young/Clarke/Chapman/Walker/Ryan. As much as I love good quality depth (like Meek), it's only fair on them to get a good gig elsewhere.
