Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Is there another example of a rookie list player that is yet to debut getting a multi-year extension?
Collingwood traded a second round pick for rookie Samuel Murray who had spent 2 years on Sydney's rookie list without playing a game. Pretty sure that they gave him a 2 year contract, but then he got done for a banned substance.

Good call. Murray was a tidy player for the pies before getting his ban.

Bit left field but I think we should have a proper crack at Nic Martin so he can run up and down the Optus wing and dob snagger rolls in the purple.

Nah no way he leaves. Essendon gave him a chance when no one else would. I believe he also trained with wce for a while? Anyway he will 100% want to pay them back for that as he should.

What’s slightly unclear is the situation with Mid Season Draftees.

It was at the end of 2021 they said rookies could have the 4th year on the rookie list. That was two and a half seasons from the 2019 MSD. There was no MSD in 2020 so we didn’t see what the situation was last year.

Doesn’t affect us this year as we didn’t use a selection in the 2021 MSD but it’ll just let us see whether Kuek can stay on the rookie list in 2025.
Don't think he can tbh but would be a welcome surprise

Really wanted Erasmus to take Mundy’s spot this season. Can see the value in JOM though.
Could it push Ras out the door? Or will he preserve and push to make the team second half of 2023 and full time in 2024?

He had a pretty positive interview the other day saying how he loved the opportunity to learn all new positions down at Peel and is loving his time there.

I find it frustrating watching how good he is when I was calling to draft him in the MSD a few years back. Honestly would rather have been wrong in wanting him.

Another suggestion is Jack Carroll. Has he been Carlton'ed? Contracted until 2024, so maybe we wait it out and see how he progresses and then try and lure him back if he looks OK.

If we had the option to go back and choose between Wanganeen-Milera (pick 10) and Ras (pick 11), which one would we choose?

Interesting question. I’d still go with Ras as I’m still very confident his ceiling is higher. Obviously the answer is years away.

Ras. He is a future big bull inside midfielder.

And don't underestimate the value of having exclusive rights to the whole West Australian South Afrikaan community as Freo supporters now. These people will become fully paid Dockers members. No expense spared. 🙂

There's a bit of bench sitting going on in this thread which is reflective of the fact that drafting and player development is a long game.

Given the exposed form it is clear that the better selection is Wanganeen-Milera. No doubt about that. And it is reinforced by a hint of reluctance to give opportunity to a physically developed Erasmus.

I'm fine with the decision we made. Drafting is an inexact science and a player doesn't have to instantly prove their credentials, but if Erasmus was as productive as Wanganeen-Milera we could have several more wins on the board.

I still think Erasmus' ceiling is Dangerfield, with his floor probably LDU, so we're going to be fine IMO.

I think that is slightly optimistic haha, I’ll be over the moon if he gets to LDU given his role is never going to be that offensive orientated
