Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

well ones playing week in week out while the other isnt in team lacking in ruck stocks
Think Meek would be much better then JOM is this year if Sam Mitchell actually played him as number 1 ruck.

Hawks have plenty rucks actually lol

The 500k of JOMs salary Hawks are paying is pretty important not to forget.

JOM is a b-grade best 22 mid, Meek is seemingly a good depth ruck given he cant get ahead of one of the worst starting rucks in the AFL.

I know which one is worth more

Always injured? He has missed like 6 games in the past 3 seasons.
Hmm, it seems like a lot more. In any case, if he’s out that’s fine with me, just need an appropriate replacement. Swaggy to G town, English to us, Schulz and a pick to the dogs.

I don’t know about that to be honest. It’s all opportunity cost. JOM displaced Brodie, though lately injury / form has cost him. You can only carry so many slow onballers who don’t provide a lot of defensive pressure. We started the year very poorly as our midfield were getting slaughtered. Partly because we are too slow around the ball, and those that aren’t too slow, are too weak.

I would have preferred Meek still on our list instead of JOM. We win the Richmond game and don’t get pantsed by GWS with Meek.

At no point this year have I thought JOM seriously contributed to us winning. How many coaches votes has he got this year?

we couldn't have Meek as backup. He wanted more than that.

Thinking about this in more detail - there no way he would be traded to Geelong in 2023 really. Unless they stumped up a massive trade bounty, that kind that would be unprecedented for them.
He’s a free agent in 2024 so at worst we would get a first round compensation pick for him. Using 2023 ladder positions that would be pick 5, and we also get an extra year of Sean in 2024 playing for us.
Therefore that is the floor price or minimum price we would accept this year in a trade.
It’s a very similar situation to the Jacob hopper trade last year actually. GWS simply told Richmond if you don’t give us two first rounders we will just hold onto him for another year and get pick 5 in compensation.
So unless Geelong stump up with pick 14 or 15, next years F1 and probably an additional second rounder from somewhere this year, he’s not going anywhere I don’t reckon.

This is the VFL and their mystery box for compo picks. I wouldn't just assume it will be a 1st rounder. Can see them giving us an end of 1st, and Geelong using that leverage to offer us pick 14-18 and say that is better than the compo pick, and why not do it now because it will just be the same end of 2024.

Don't forget that the compo pick is tied largely to salary (and age). Geelong's package will likely include a huge amount of rorts outside the salary cap and it is quite possible the salary cap component will have Darcy outside the top 5% of earners, which puts him into the next bracket which is only end of 1st round compo.

I dont think any of that takes into account JOM is worth more than Meek as a player. Hawks arent going to take less for JOM because he might be a poor fit. We wanted him, so we determined he was a good fit

Talk about an overpay for O'Meara, christ
The pick will likely end up 32-35. This swapped for JOM with Hawks paying large chunk of salary is a decent deal for mine. I think JOM will be better next year. He has had some good games and some where he has struggled to fit into the midfield mix. After having him in the side for a season we can start to mould the midfield mix to better suit the players strengths. After losing Acres, Mundy, Tucker we did need to bring in a mature body to go through the midfield at times.

Love it when one injury equals: injury prone, delist/trade.

If the club had done that to every player this board had called injury prone we'd be bottom of the ladder every single year because we'd constantly have hardly anyone left.

Should have just kept what we had. Keeping Acres and Mundy for 2023 would have outperformed JOM.

I honestly can’t see why the midfield isn’t a strength?
We have a good ruck, and players to rotate if we desire.
To me it looks like a lack of vision to
spread the load.
JOM, Brayshaw and Serong is too much of the same.
It's not complex.

Brayshaw to the wing, Brodie bash and crash. Or if they aren't happy with his ability to play enough tog, Erasmus and MJ share the load.

Seems now ex docker Lee Spurs thinks we should target Dom Sheed. Lol

Jumping from last week's news Yeoh to Sheed..why we need pick up the weagles secondhand from the scrap heap

Although, having Sheed and Brodie in the middle may confuse the oppo.. Doppelgangers 🤣😂
