Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

The idea of picking the WC carcass clean for mature players who could make us better short term, giving them some picks and depth/younger players to help them longer term has merit.
Ok...but what if it means keeping out Ras or MJ ?

Seems now ex docker Lee Spurs thinks we should target Dom Sheed. Lol

Jumping from last week's news Yeoh to Sheed..why we need pick up the weagles secondhand from the scrap heap

Although, having Sheed and Brodie in the middle may confuse the oppo.. Doppelgangers 🤣😂

Tim kelly would be the one rather than their other injury prone cast offs, but unlikely he would want to come over and would probably cost too much. He'd be the right age profile if we want to have a crack at a flag in the next 4 years - play him with Brayshaw and Serong in the midfield and hope one or both of Johnson/Erasmus come on for the height we require in there.

We aren’t trading with WC. They have too much loyalty to offload these blokes mentioned like Sheed and Yeo. Gaff they will try to get rid of, possibly Jack Darling after the Vaccination debacle last year.

I wonder whether West Coast would have any inclination of taking 2 and 17 from North for pick 1.

Let north have Reid and take Curtin as the 195cm beast midfielder and get another first round in the door
history says teams pay more for pick 1

If I'm West Coast im trying for 2 top 10s, and trying to get Mckercher with one of them

Next year is year 9 of the rebuild. If we keep this up, draftees will retire before we are any good.

I wonder if it worth trying to get some picks from some of out 26 to 30 year old players and commit to another rebuild.

If Cox Ryan got us a late 1st and 2nd round would you do it.

Rebuild started post 2019 season. I am a critic of both Jlo and Bell but they both inherited a (replumb rewire list)..couple of genuine A graders, 3 talented youngsters in AB,Darcy and Cerra, but the rest of the list was average or not up to it.

Mid 2016 we started the rebuild. Or did we start a rebuild in 2016 and them another in 2019

Bell traded out 5,6 for Lobb and Hogan.

No that was Rosich overriding him ( I want bell sacked btw but that was not him)

We never did a true rebuild until Rosich and RTB left.

Serong, Young, Henry, Amiss, Johnson and Erasmus are high talent we’ve drafted in since 2019.

AB and Darcy are the only high talent in the squad between 2016-2019. Cox and Ryan were good later picks.

My issue with Bell stems from the last offseason. The trade bundle for Jackson, the amount of years given to JOM and last years draft picks. Yes they were later picks, but I think we picked poorly and not needs.

Giving away a future first smacks of arrogance as we thought we would be contending. Should of given them a first and a second and maybe a future 2nd but we got cocky. Insurance for having a bad year is keeping that first pick. A top 4 player would be handy this draft.

Seriously, there is no scenario you can get a 21 year old Luke Jackson without giving up 2 firsts when your first one is like pick 15.

2016 trade in Bennell
2017 trade in McCarthy, Hill, Hamling
2018 Wilson, Matera
2019 Conca, Hogan, Lobb, Colyer
2020 Acres, Aish
2021 None
2022 Brodie, Clark
2023 Corbett, Jackson, O'Meara

I don't see the difference. One year in 8 years we did not throw away draft picks during a rebuild (or what ever you call it).

At least 4 1st, 6 2nds, 4 3rd for not much in return. This is why we are 8 years into a rebuild or being consistently shit, and have nothing to show for it.

Every single team would have given two firsts for Jackson. Us being shit means nothing to that deal, we’d still be entering the draft at the same point.

The future second was incredibly unnecessary.

Yes we didn't commit properly early and its why we are still so young.

Even the last 3 or 4 years, we have not committed.

It is just extending the pain. I hate it.

I am thinking we should start another rebuild. We just don't have enough talent on our list.

You have a one dimensional view of what a rebuild can be

I think the crows have done it brilliantly.

Commit to the draft for a few years, pick good players and get them cheaply.

If you trade out a top 10 pick, make sure you get an A grader in return with 8+ years left in him.

I think the goal of any rebuild is to get as many A graders on your list who will be available when you are ready to chase a flag. I don't think adding B and C graders to your list (especially when giving up picks for them) helps during a rebuild.

How would you rebuild?

I challenge you to have a look at Collingwoods list of who is playing regular football currently.

They have up to 12 players who play regular or at least semi regular football who were traded in from other clubs, coupled with three rolled gold father sons and Quaynor as an academy player

Where else was he going? We held all the cards, he didn’t want to go to WC
